We've "always" known about volatility? They've been measuring volatility in the stock market for 15 years. In 15 years, the highest it went was 50. It hit 89 two days ago (10/24/08). We live in a market where people thought they had eliminated risk entirely through diversification. So no, people didn't have any reason to think the Dow would plummet like it did. America spends more then any other nation on 'healthcare' with taxdollars. Though, 75.000.000 Americans, often those who need it most, have no coverage whatsoever.
The reason why it is still so immensely costfull, is that the private companies who are left in charge to organise it, need to make profit.
This system leaves 18.000 Americans to die every year, because they can't afford the medical treatment.

I'm a moderate, and I think Senator McCain missed the point that he was pushing a plan that would have invested social security in the stock market (under a "privatization" clause"). I'm not trying to slam the Senator, but I guess it's a good thing it didn't pass.

This interview is terrible..Wolf did the best he could, but McCain gave the MOST VAGUE ANSWERS EVER!!!! Everyone of mccains answers were basically "we will sit down with others and negotiate" or "i will do what ever is necessary" or "i will look at my possibilities and choose what is right for the american people". Extremely vague, thats like if I asked McCain, who is your favorite football team, and he said the SEC!!

That just emphasizes the fact that the market is prone to extreme volatility from outside forces! Social SECURITY: Safe. Guaranteed. Don't privatize it.

The Bush/McCain plan was to only allow people to invest their Social Security in SAFE companies like Bears Stearns and Lehman Brothers. You know, companies that only go up in price.
