Heard this for the first time out of the blue on the radio whilst driving and - without knowing any of the context - the story just unfolded in the words, and the subject matter dawned on me.
I saw Chris play this at King's Place in the big (ish) hall there. It made me want to give up writing and playing - what do you do when one player has done all you'd like to do and better than you think you can?
Astonishing. Makes what happened so personal, so close. It could have been your son, it could have been mine, walking on a summer day with dreams inside his head. Innocent.
This is another great song from Chris & it eloquently (as ever) vocalises the disbelief that I think much of the country still feels surrounding the execution of an innocent man & the lies and shocking back-scratching that followed allowing every wrongdoer involved to get off with a promotion and state pension. I hope the met appreciates that for most right-minded people, this national disgrace remains both unjustly & unsatisfactorily resolved.
This is the third song I know of about this incident ("Trains to Brazil" by Guillemots and "Sorry" by Karine Polwart are the others), which I think says a hell of a lot about how this affected people. I wont use this comment to make a political point about it, but I could.

Had to park up when the tears came. RIP.

Christ that's a good song. Amazing what a few words with meaning will do compaired to thousands with none.

Was just played on BBC Radio 2 folk program this evening. Surprised to hear it on a national radio station considering the subject.

A remarkable song which high lites well the problems that we have in this supposed free country.
I heard this first the other evening when Chris won the record of the year on the folk awards and rightly so.

A reference to Jean Charles De Menezes public shooting execution by Met police. Seven hollow point bullets to the head, one in the chest. Thank you.
NB: Hollow point ammunition is illegal in warfare, but legal for UK police firearm units. See Jean Charles De Menzes full wikipedia entry.

Good question! Maybe the fact that this superb and relevant song has had 1,341 views tells another sad story?
