I rode back home from Proviso High School, 5th Av to Garden Home (51st St, Bellwood), in 1957. Train would get up close to 70 mph after 25th.
A friend's father took the 'Roarin Elgin from Downtown before the cutback; and we'd go watch the express fleet pass Garden Home at 70 mph, one in view behind the other before the dad's local came.
We'd also watch the trains at Poplar Av, Elmhurst at the foot of a hill we would race down on our bikes.

The interior shots look like CNS&M 251 Silver Liner.

I rode the CA&E as a kid. Almost all class of cars. These things could really scoot. Well over 70mph. Really fun with just one car.

Ah yes The "Roarin' Elgin"...
Passenger service ended abruptly on July 3, 1957 at NOON.
Commuters who had ridden the Roarin' Elgin into the city found themselves stranded when they returned to take the train home.
