  • Oh I remember when I used to play this game. I got so addicted, but I don't go on it anymore. :(

  • @xoxoprincessxoxo1000 I didn't go back either until my friend started playing again. If there's no one to tie you to the game you wont really feel like going back.

  • Ralph plz go. NO.

  • ... It's like IMVU :p

  • Roblox with better graphics

  • @Metagross923 Oh god no.

  • @Metagross923 I like roblox, but this is nothing like it.

  • The REAL Second Life Community can be summed up by watching one movie.

    Gamer, with Gerard Butler.

  • @IAmCaptainMarvel lol, I just came here from watching that, and it wasnt even that which brought me here.

  • I once tried it but it ran with 2 frames per second. Really not enjoyable that way.

  • @johnytwotimes1 umm you do know that your a dumbass right?... doing things digitaly is only 1/100 as fun as doing that stuff in real life so stop trying to pretend its the real thing because its not (serverd)

  • lol you can do all thT IN REAL LIFE(:

  • The Second Life community of 2011: Furries, Vampires, Emos, and No-lifes.

  • why thay dont show furry`s

  • virtual worlds remind me of that movie Avatar where the guy can't walk in his human life and his life as a avatar is cool and what not....

  • its 90% sex oriented.. i love how they make the promo vids look all wholesome

  • I am a resident and all i do is use it to Wrestle in the biggest and best fed . something i cant do in RL ,twice weekly.

Good fun and a good community its not all sex .

Yes you have to fight lag unlike RL, but the sense of doing what you want to do and entertain others is the joy of SL.

  • how old do ya have to be?

  • Cant help noticing that you only show human avatars in your promo videos. If anything, SL is about diversity.

  • i love sl.. when i am done getting off work.. and taking car of the kids.. and i am at the end of the day!

  • So obviously fake.

And I'm speaking as an SL resident!

  • Comment removed

  • Nice montage; to bad it doesn't actually look that good and fun. Mainly consists of dull looking avatars standing around in silence (or lagged) all sending each other IMs hoping for fake sex.

  • i i really like sl cuz i can do what i want without leaving my house and its not because im a loser or anything its just there nothing to do in my town its boring like hell

  • I like sl, u can do everything u want, and i learn languages, and meet people.

  • @bill1465

Riiiight, i guess spending hours on end behind the TV or playing video games with nothing to learn or creative outlet is better? Hmmm, don't think so. Learn to look further then your nose is long. It's so easy to comment negativly about something you know so litle about.

  • drunksheep your choice ok you want to spend every hour behind the computer talking to lonley mentley scarred people then go ahead sl is a bad evil place funded by sex and lies and people with no lifes its a addiction watching TV or playing video games is competley diferent i dont watch TV for 16 hours a day

  • Just like you've people that watch TV 16 hours a day, you've people that play SL 16 hours a day. Just like you've people that watch porn on internet all day, you've that kind of people on SL aswell. But guess what, there is more to do then just sex in SL lol, let me guess, you saw one of those documentories talking about how 'evil' SL is? I have a daytime job yet in my freetime i enjoy SL where i can be creative and run a business designing homes that earns me a 4 digit sum each year (in USD).

  • @bill1465 you comment on youtube. YOU HAVE NO LIFE.

  • Nicely done machinima! who did it?

  • ILL Clan Animation Studios

  • @TheBritishpopstar: Really? I'm resident of SL since 2007- and have builded the Free Library PEGASUS there. And I can't remember any "fact" you posted here. And: I dont "play". SL is not a game. Greets BukTom Bloch

  • I love second life!!! I wish i could visit some of those places. LOl those places seems like its just for the rich

  • there should have been clips of furries or scalies on the vid as they are a big part of the sl population

  • i too way back use to spend most of my nights on SL ... they were fun.. and quite by chance i met someone who i later went on to meet in RL .. Im still with him .

Not so long ago i went back onto SL just to see if its changed. ,not as many ppl around any more shame really

  • I like the video where is that cool ride at? Looks fun. I love SL currently. :)

  • I have a wonderful RL, made all the more wonderful by unexpectedly meeting someone in SL who is now my life partner in RL. I did not join SL looking for any such thing, and now have a fantastic circle of friends, some of who I have gone on to meet in RL, and enjoy every moment I am there, exploring, building, dancing, DJ'g at clubs, and shopping.

I would say too many are influenced by negative media spin on SL - it is what you make of it, just like Real Life. Imagine that!

  • Virtual worlds are growing, and secondlife is the absolut best one :)

    Keep up the good work

  • I'm tired of ppl saying that SL is for ppl that don't have a real life. I play SL and I have a real life, a very good one at that. SL is my hobby. I love it for the fashion. I like to dress up my avatar in crazy fashion styles and I also like to build houses and sell them to ppl. Before you knock SL, sign up and try it for free.

  • Hi guys i play SL i love it i only been on it for 20 days if peple have a cheat code can u send me it this is my SL name: Miguel Toocool ok or if you want to be friends

  • There aren't any cheat codes in SL.

  • god to think i use to play SL like everynight, now i dont play it at all, the people and everything in it are fake its about messed up people who really do hate there rl anyone that spends like 16 hours a day sat at there computer geeez get a life join 1st life theres no lag there either...

  • Dude Sl is for people who don't like there rl or want a better one or just to be with friends and have fun and it is about other things that u don't no about

  • so bad

  • i heard that ps3 is planning something like this

its like xbox's avatars but they get to roam around and do stuff

  • They already have it and it's horrible...

  • NO FATTIES ALOUD

  • It's an ad! It's not a documentary! :)

  • I like the way you talk about "everybody knows that you need top-of-the-line/professional-grade hardware". *Sigh*. Look, guys, be honest with yourselves. This is a professional machinima. It's done by people who know how to tweak their computers to get great performance out of it. I can get *almost* the same performance shown on these movies with an old 2007 no-brand PC with a US$100 graphics card. Really. And I'm not even a PC expert, I just use Macs.

  • This is exciting and well made video. But why is everyone in it so generic?

  • As for the video, yeah looks good.

But for the huge missing bit(s) of lag.. Well, what a crock. I bet LL edited out the parts when AV's had tp'd in LOL.

If I was to put this ad on UK TV, I'd be hung for false advertising.

  • no innovations, no developments for the community joining a virtual world for the mere entertainment. The meshes are as old as my grandmah. A good place for doin virtual business, but their technology it's stuckin in 2007.

  • Good work! Very good choice of soundtrack, as that provides energy that drives the rest of the video. Enough cuts to show off a reasonable introduction to SL, whilst not so many as to upset Michael Bay's patent lawyers.

I would have preferred more diversity in avs, as others have noted, though that's sticking to the apparent mandate to keep it interesting, yet not so different to frighten anyone off. =:/ Ah well. They'll all find out once they've been lured in. =:)

  • I really liked the first two I saw made for Second Life better, but knowing from a business point of view you have to carefully craft each video with a specific target market in mind. Some fast and flashy for young ones, some educationally, or business focused etc etc. So not all ads will appeal to all folks. That is OK. This is fast and flashy..works and looks nice for that market.

  • Gosh, 300 views, and 100 negative comments... sheesh. You're too critic :) One truly starts to understand why so few people actually *do* log in to SL...

Anyway, I like the comment about "the monstrous lag most people would experience while using such graphics settings". Mmh right. Let me tell you a little secret: someone *did* shoot that video and did *not* have "monstrous lag" even with all those avatars... doesn't that give a hint on what's actually wrong? ;)

  • Sorry, Gwyn, but nobody's going to believe your "let's outright *ignore* the lag issue in the [utterly boring] fantasy world!" (with fake wince) message.

Everyone knows that unless you have the Top-of-the-line PCs equipped with nVidia GTX 260+ GPUs, you aren't going to have a lag-free experience.

Linden Lab has made no significant forward-looking progress since Kingdon took over. Purely marketing, plus force-feeding *customers* BS policies and policy changes designed to benefit only Linden.

  • Oh yes you can have a lag-experience with underpowered hardware :) Look, I have an old, battered, half-melt-down 2003 PowerBook on my office. It still gets 15 FPS out of SL — and not even on the lowest settings. Give me anything built in 2009 with a nVidia card, and I'll show you SL at 50-60 FPS *with shadows*, and you won't even need to pay more than US$1k for it... possibly less, if you go for no-name brands.

  • Oh, Gwyn, you've outdone yourself again! With your marketing-type misleading statements, of course.

A 2003 Apple PowerBook does *not* run the official Second Life client at ~15FPS (unless, maybe, if you run the client on low/ugly settings - people aren't going to want that, nor would people want your "lag-experience").

    The Uber-expensive GeForce GTX 28X/29X is needed 4 50FPS + Shadows

    ----------

SL's graphics engine is utterly unoptimized, lagging out ATi graphics card users with faster GPUs.

  • Now that's a challenge! Just because of that comment, I'll have to post a video of that old PowerBook running SL smoothly at ±15 FPS. :)

Sure, don't expect *miracles* with such an outdated piece of hardware. But the point was not doing miracles; just getting acceptable performance from underpowered systems, pretty much making the point that they still run SL well enough for the majority of users.

  • On the other hand, I haven't tried out any high-end ATi card with shadows, and you might be right that SL is not supported so well on them; just a plain, old, average nVidia GeForce 9400 GT, which I bought on a supermarket for less than US$100. That gives 30 FPS with shadows on a good day.

  • That tells me that the person shooting this video works for Linden Labs, possibly AT Linden Labs, and thus is equipped with professional-grade hardware, laughing at client-side lag that mere mortals have to suffer due to the usual lack of pricey state-of-the-art technology.

Not having to go through a potentially lousy internet connection also helps and yet isn't an option for everyone, but not a problem when you can tap directly into the server.

  • Being "at" Linden Lab (either of their many offices) doesn't give them any advantage to connect to the grid, since the grid is co-located separately... on two different physical locations (California and Texas).

  • love it! Great job :D

  • when has advertising every been realistic :) This is clearly an ad aimed at the cool kids.

  • Ignoring the communities? What about the most obvious thing was doesn't feature in that video? The monstrous lag most people would experience while using such graphics settings...

It certainly looks nice, but it isn't realistic.

  • Agreed.

  • [0:16 - 0:19] The Blarney Stone! W00T!!

  • It's a well-done bit of promotion, but it ignores many communities, anything non-human, and the mention of 'thousands of groups' made me immediately think 'but you have to pick twenty-five only, you can't have any more'.

One wonders if you were specifically instructed to ignore anything that might look "freaky" to the average person on the street...

  • Nice!!!

  • This makes me want to go inworld :D

  • Um, where were the tinies? Or furries? Or dragons? Or aliens? Or anything non-humanoid? Do their communities not count?

  • wasnt this just a preview of the full version? maybe it has those residents you mentioned. Because honestly I dont go into SL to dance..... I hate the clubs they bore me to tears, so based on that, not too sure I would join SL.

  • Having said the above the vid was well cut and looked great

  • Where is the art?

  • It probably doesn't seem as much fun to the vid makers as standing around with a virtual beer.. O.O

  • Really great work, Ill Clan!

  • Nicely done.

  • Nice piece of machinima... Adec :)

  • awesome made advert 5 stars ^^
