japan is not the only place where this idea has been developped. It is possible to find similar ideas, or even the same. For example in the basque country "Euria eta eguzkia erromako zubia" (rain and sun make the bridge of Rome; making reference to the rainbow and the "Axeri-bodak", the wedding of the foxes.)
old Japanese folktale. Do not disturb marriage celemony of fox. People who lived in deep montains saw chain of small fire torchs where no people should be there....they believed that was fox fire.
his desire to intrude on nature starts out innocently enough. He just wants to look out of curiosity. In The Peach Orchard he then wants something from nature. In Blizzard and The Tunnel, he is grown up as in in direct with nature. I find it interesting that while the zombies platoon in The Tunnel meekly accept his apologies, the company dog (still in touch with nature) isn't so easily fooled.

I wish I had a YUME like this one..strange silhouettes with masks marching in a forest..and me watching them from behind a tree, a bit scared but also fascinated :)
I really like the attention to how the trees played a part in framing the view, as if the boy is first looking through a window and the trees acted as a wall separating them. Further along when the angle shifts, the perspective shifts to allow him to be drawn into their world and only then do they look at where he was, then catch him. Simply the technical aspect of that, not even going into it further, is stunning.
Love it. Also on a related note, temple architecture. Just had to say that.
in the phillipines rain during the sunshine means that a tikbalang or a half horse half man except the head is a horse and the body is a man so it means they are fucking hahahaha =))
O.M.G! They don't make movies like this anymore with the long, extended shot that draw you into the scene and transform the experience. The MTV culture killed that, everything nowadays is a 5-second flash to keep people entertained, but it's the classics like Kurosawa that transcend culture and entertainment.
somehow.. i feel i'm happy enough.. to be born in the islands.. whoever the fox tribes mean.. somehow i just feel i'm happy while i'm watching this film. thank you
Me and my brother used to watch this every night when we were little before we would go to bed. There's something magic about it. The imagery is fantastic!
I saw similar scene with anthropomorphic foxes having a wedding procession. It was in the movie Pom Poko. I wonder if that movie was inspired by this scene.
Awesome!!....Incredibly artistic. This is poetry on film....The work of Kurozawa is amazing and it should be more apreciated. This is a work of art, no doubt...Thanks so much for uploading Orenjistar
Yes, Indeed. It's Poetry in Motion. With a misterious and sublime message. Akira, wherever you are, thank you for the making of this film. Thank you, Orenji, Good job!!!

Japanese children in sun-shower repeat each other with joy "FOX WEDDING !!"
My mother loves this scene directed by Kuro-sawa very much. She remembers her childhood everytime to watch this film.

Kitsune (Japanese foxes) having weddings during sun-showers is an age-old Japanese myth. ^^ They were all inspired by it.
