This is too complicated but I respect your ideas. Cydia has just release a new version of Ultrasn0w to unlock Iphone 3gs 5.12.01 version 3.1.3. on 22.06.2010. Simply update cydia. Then search for Ultrasn0w. Install it. Reboot your device. Insert your new sim or whatever. Switch on. Ready to go to with another carrier. Thanks to Sheriff Haslam and Geohot. Its an unlock.

@tonyhaseley do a soft reset (hold the power and home screen) then pull up itunes on your computer, hold the homescreen and then plug your phone into the computer DO NOT let go of the homescreen button, it will give you the connect to itunes pic and retore your iphone/ipod DO NOT upgrade to new software good luck

1. Restore your iPhone through itunes (10-15 minutes)

2. Download "blackra1n" into your computer and  then execute it "make it ra1n" while hooking your Iphone with the computer.

3. Install "SN0W" from the blackra1n application on your iphone (WIFI is a must have for installing snow).

Snow will do the rest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

did you unlock it on your mac computer or PC computer? i heard that ALL you have to do is reset your wireless settings and then reboot your iphone and it SHOULD fix it. hope this helps you. good luck.
