First, my screenname is not about JOHN COLTRANE....NOTICE THE SPELLING, so learn how to spell his name if you like him so much. Second, let's not deny it...this guy doesn't groove. Does he play a straight four ever? If not, then in MY opinion, he's whatever. I love Bill Bruford, but he doesn't groove and drummers like that overcompensate the fact that they can't let loose, by using odd time signatures. It's not a bad thing, just not my thing. Sorry for saying he sucked, just not my thing.

I get what coltrain is trying to say -- from the standpoint of someone who doesn't play drums, there are few things more irritating than a drummer who's totally cool with compromising groove just so he can be all wanky and creative. I don't want to be an accessory to a drummer's vanity project, thank you very much.

But this guy's not that kind of drummer. Search for the video of them performing Handshake Drugs -- very straight beat, and he plays it with total conviction.

Im sorry dude... but i cant picture a real music fan not enjoying odd time signatures and weird beats. Im a drummer myself and having played for several years i have to say, Glen is amazing because he knows what its like to play on a basic 4, and it gets old and boring.

Just cause he doesnt play on a straight 4 time doesnt mean hes not good. Hes amazing, most of the best drummers play odd time signatures. Your opinion here really bothers me, you should be able to appriciate it, if anything.

Anyone who doesnt consider kotche a groove drummer obviously hasn't listened to any wilco, or the jazz projects hes in. Can't really base whether a drummer has a solid groove, or isnt a groove drummer based off of their solo stuff.

yes, this video is probably the worst stuff i've heard from Glenn, honestly. I prefer his work as the Wilco drummer, rather than his solo work. and, i'm serious that you should hear stuff from him. he has great groovy stuff. try to hear "a ghost is born" or "Wilco the album" to get a good impression.
