  • Also, I tend to be more comfortable with my left elbow being used as the cover and my right (rear hand) being the one doing the palm strike (being in a left lead type stance.) I know that it takes the rear hand longer to reach the target than the lead hand, but I feel more protected because people are most likely to throw a right hand attack.

  • That's really cool that you use this technique. I use the very same one as my default flinch/ "oh shit" defense. When training it, the only time I would have a problem with it was when my timing was a little off and the attacker was throwing a very heavy/ hard straight punch with a lot of follow through. I wouldn't get hit, but sometimes I would be pushed off balance by the force. Have you had this or any other problems with this cover? Any advice?

    Thanks!

  • Wow! Poor ole Bob there! Seriously though, great looking first move from a fence tool there man, I really want to try it.

    Keep up the good work.

  • Kelly McCann also uses this but with more emphasis on the elbow strike. It's called the spiked elbow cover. The harder the opponent comes in, the more pain will be inflicted.

  • They have this in Phillipine boxing, silat, thi boxing, ect this is not new

  • It's a clinch entry, I like the unique cover position added, with the face targeting!!!

  • you're good man...

  • @giep4492

    that's what she said.

  • very effective stuff. it reminds me some the "cowcatcher", but more open to prosecution of techniches...i got to train it.

    thanx for posting

  • Thanks, bro. Let me know how it works for you.

  • This reminds of a technique used by Southnarc

  • i understand your idea dude. it seems like your saying its a reflexive response to say a sucka punch and ur last resort / cover tactic with a forward pressure motion similar to tony blauers spear system hay. thats where i think richard demtris " shredder " kicks ass. even a basic hands up to defend an attack with forward motion is gunna give u a chance to launch the shred is a great tool although is harder than it looks lol. theres been many times we have cranked the shit outa our necks lol lata

  • What if someone moves to the side for a side kick or kick to the groan..

  • only place i seen it thought it is a slight variation is in the class i attend , the move we do is called "the full rino " it is in my striking techniques volume 1 at around the 6 min mark

    all the best

  • very cool move my friend , i know this technique but have never seen to many others use it .

  • Thanks, bro. I've never seen it anywhere before. Did you come up with something similar?

  • I think attacking a mans eyes is not right. maybe you want to hurt a guy for whatever. And maybe he deserves an ass kicking. But to leave a man blind for life. No that is too nasty. Moves are not bad but everyone knows grappling now adays so they can shoot in when you cover up.

  • It's a pretty good move I must say. It just kind of worries me because if your opponent has fast a fast reaction time, he can change course and go straight for your wide open Stomach. Kind of worries me. lol

  • Yes, you don't want to just crash in and stand there haha. You're only in that position for a split second. If you just stay in that position and do nothing else, you're gonna get your ass kicked for sure. :D

When someone wants to hurt you, and put you down they are gonna aim for your head. I've NEVER had someone who wanted to attack me throw a body shot as the first strike. In all the fight videos I've seen, I've never seen it there either, so I think you're pretty safe.

  • Cool technique. Do you know which one of Senshido's dvds this is covered in?

Oh yeah by the way the Shredder owns

  • As far as I know, I kinda came up with this in training, and have not seen it anywhere else before. It is not in any Senshido dvd though I am a huge fan of Rich's stuff.

  • Very good video Jeff, excellent for MMA and very applicable in PP. The only minor drawbacks, in my humble opinion, are first that you're limiting your vision on the side of the cover. In PP, this might translate in not seeing the potential bad guy on the side.

The second issue is that the cover will not fare well against a stab, and the knife would go in the arm/ neck region.

Nevertheless, I consider it a very valuable tool. Great job brother.

  • Thanks, bro. I agree with the minor drawbacks, but nothing covers all variables unfortunately, hey? Except for an AK47. Now I'm talkin your language. lol

    PEACE!!

  • I watched this video and over past few weeks I've tried this out in my self protection classes and its awesome! It feels very natural and just works well for me. Awesome videos can't wait to see more!

  • Hey, Larry. I'm glad it works for you, bro!!! I must be doing something right hey? I should start teaching again....

  • you really showed that doll who is the boss :)

  • Is this technuiqe suppose to work against the sucker punch ore is it just a preemptive -attack?

  • I suppose it could be used as both, but it's more for defense against an attack whether it be a sucker punch, a ballistic punching attack, a kick, grab, shove, etc, and even for MMA. Just make sure you follow up after.
