The mammoth is just part of the background. Mammoth's are supposed to be frozen in ice. It isn't a reference to anything. You don't need to trigger anything to see it. It's not an easter egg. Seriously, look up what an easter egg is if you're going to get upset about it. This is the equivalent of finding a normal bird in a tree in zelda and saying, oh well I guess that's an easter egg.

The mammoth is not a cutscene, it doesn't reference anything, you don't even have to do anything to unlock it. It's a normal mammoth in ice. Not an easter egg. It's just part of the background.
