  • Love it

  • It's not that offensive as Moto is the hero of the story.

  • many thanks for posting!

  • John Phillips Marquand (November 10, 1893 in Wilmington, Delaware – July 16, 1960 in Newburyport, Massachusetts ) was a 20th-century American writer. Originally best known for his Mr. Moto spy stories, he achieved popular success and critical respect for his satirical novels, winning a Pulitzer Prize for The Late George Apley in 1938.

  • I was searching for a John Phillips Marquand video and found this. Thank you, its in my playlist for famous Delawareans.

  • The main character is Japanese.

Classic Hollywood: "Which Japanese actor should we choose?"

    "What about Peter Lorre?"

    "Lorre? But isn't he Austrian?"

    "Yeah. So?"

    "Close enough."

I love Lorre, but I feel like this would never fly today. x]

  • @bluesun7777 Classic hollywood wouldn't have even asked for a Japanese actor in the first place, heh.

  • In the movie "Aunti Mame" Mame had a japanese houseboy named "Ito". The writes had to have been thinking of Peter Lore's part in this movie. Mame's Ito even wore the same white jacket.

  • lorre admitted to being doped up the entire time he shot these films. truth is, he hated doing mr moto but did it to get lead roles.

  • @JennelleBelle did not know that just enjoyed his mr moto movies. lol

  • @hedwaff007 um, ok ill enjoyed it...o_O

  • @JennelleBelle He had gallbladder problems and developed an addiction to morphine to treat the pain. It is misleading to infer that he took morphine because he had to play Mr. Moto. He may have found it disagreeable but he didn't hate it enough to refuse it. One may put someone on a pedestal and say they were too good for this or that but the truth is it was a good opportunity for him and he didn't just hack his way through it, he did a good job.

  • @JennelleBelle Though according to his biography, Peter did incorporate one of his favorite lines from a Moto movies years later into a film he did in the '50s.

  • peter lorre is best.

  • Thanks a lot. Mr Moto's always great.

  • Wait a minute, Cayenne? Heh, did Mr. Moto run into Marius while he was there?

(Marius was the character Peter Lorre played in Passage to Marseille, which also took place in Cayenne!)

  • @HeraldMB This is Peter Lore's second film appearance on "Devil's Island" as well. He played an inmate on that island in a movie with Joan Crawford called "Strange Cargo".

  • Thakes for uploading the entire movie...

Mr. Moto is my favourite character :)

  • Fantastic movie, thanks once again for posting.

  • Parts 1 to 8 of the same movie
