I went through in 2001. Most all the old barracks were still there then. We did spend a heluva lot of time just marching between buildings.It makes sense for drill but you don't really march anywhere when in a ship...so I guess this new setup makes some sense. but 8 week bootcamp? Wow...and I thought my bootcamp was short.
THis is not the bootcamp I went through, lol! My RDC's favorite words were DROP, you turd! They were in our faces from the time we got on the bus at the airport. Our "ship" (Uss Josephus Daniels, ship 10) looked like it hadn't been used in months. We got beat down because it was dirty. Our RDC (who looked like the black incredible hulk) liked throwing our shit and mattresses out the window. I got thrown to the deck from my top rack because my dress shoes weren't in the footlocker straight.
I was beat down and nearly ASMO'd because I had bronchitis and couldn't sound off loud enough. My division routinely packed into the cloak room (all 88 of us!) and would pt till it started to "rain" indoors. It all paid off though. If you actually believe that this bootcamp video is what actually happens, go ahead and join and see how fast u get a wake up call. And believe me, those recruits got it 3x as hard once that film crew left, lol! It may not be marine bootcamp but it's still bootcamp!

I had it as a kid, outgrew by time i was 13, even then i needed several doctors and several in depth physicals to show i was good to go. And that was in 1989. I'd go on watch and then get off only to have to go to working party to bring on ammo etc. It was a very fast paced work environment. Our job was of course to support the Marines with Naval Gunfire Support. Our ship was awarded a Combat Action Ribbon.

im 17 a senior went my local recruiter for a sit down we talked i took a practice asvab scored a 19 but i took an official asvab at school a few months before and scored a 36 i am currently working on memorizing the ranks, salors creed, general orders, and chain of command i not fat but not skinny either im around 5'9 195lbs 24% BMI no record no tats perfect health i do wear glasses yet he still seem a little unimpressed what is the best way to get him to give me contract and let me go to meps
@jr7rockets well the physical at MEPS requires you to be at 25% BF to go. i started my navy journey at 34% BF. and today i clocked in at 24% and iam going in 5 days to MEPS and getting my physical to get into the DEP and getting a boot camp date. so idk whats wrong with your recruiter bcus you do qualify physicaly but your ASVAB tests arent good, so study hard on yur ASVAB and when u feel ready go to your recruiter and say you want to re take the practice.
@jr7rockets cont: bcus the first time i took the practice test i got a 32. after i studyed i came back and scored a 87. plus the practice test is harder than the real ASVAB, just more questions. so study hard and you will impress your recruiter! good luck.
Woman are going to be in subs soon. The reason we are not there yet has nothing to do with lack of sunshine. It has to do with liability, if a female gets pregnant while submerged...the Navy cant very well locate and surface a sub to fly her to shore. It is too costly and will put the mission in jepordy

Several of them still have torpedoes in front, and Bofors guns as of 2000 when I went. Mine had a AA mount. I guess that's where all the weapons from the PT Boats went after they were decommissioned.
I'm a DEP recruit right now and i'm about to go to bootcamp on the 17th of next month. i got an 85 on my ASVAP and i got in as an EN surface engineer because that was the only job that seemed more interesting. I was wondering if i could get a reclass for Hospital Coreman while in bootcamp?

@SMGleader I tried to change it for the entire time i was in the program but according to my recruiter something went wrong with all my paperwork and they couldn't match my name with my social security #. They fixed it but it took like 4 months and now i leave in like 28 days and i'm not sure if i can still get my reclass.

i signed as an undessignated airman because there were no jobs available. i scored 79 on the asvab and was told i qualified for almost all jobs except nuke. i wanna know if i can request a new rate in boot camp and what my possibilities are of getting into intel spec. Somebody know??
@jamesblack1900 i know that your ASVAB score can get you ES and all CT jobs; possibly CTI if you score at least 100 on the DLAB. You shouldn't have signed that contract. Try to change your rate before bootcamp, because I don't think you can change it in there.

Need to? Uh why is that? Its been a while but once upon a time the silent service manage to blow something like 25% of the japanese navy and merchant marine out of the water...without women on submarines. The Navy is for killing people and breaking and or sinking things, not social experiments.

Several of them still have torpedoes in front, and Bofors guns as of 2000 when I went. Mine had a AA mount. I guess that's where all the weapons from the PT Boats went after they were decommissioned.

I'm a DEP recruit right now and i'm about to go to bootcamp on the 17th of next month. i got an 85 on my ASVAP and i got in as an EN surface engineer because that was the only job that seemed more interesting. I was wondering if i could get a reclass for Hospital Coreman while in bootcamp?

@SMGleader I tried to change it for the entire time i was in the program but according to my recruiter something went wrong with all my paperwork and they couldn't match my name with my social security #. They fixed it but it took like 4 months and now i leave in like 28 days and i'm not sure if i can still get my reclass.

i signed as an undessignated airman because there were no jobs available. i scored 79 on the asvab and was told i qualified for almost all jobs except nuke. i wanna know if i can request a new rate in boot camp and what my possibilities are of getting into intel spec. Somebody know??

@jamesblack1900 i know that your ASVAB score can get you ES and all CT jobs; possibly CTI if you score at least 100 on the DLAB. You shouldn't have signed that contract. Try to change your rate before bootcamp, because I don't think you can change it in there.

Graduated bootcamp 2 months ago....shit is easy....they are so worried about hurting you or getting sued or some bullshit that the training is basicly done by you as a recruit....8 weeks of hell....then went across the street to corps school....and ill be graduating out of here in august of this year.....Hooyah navy!

@jburoker you are correct . unfortunately the "NEW" navy is all about numbers, instead of pushing out quality, this is why we get so many junior sailors with disiplinary problems in the fleet. i have served with several that never finished their enlisments, and shouldn't have made it out of boot camp

btw 4 years is long enough for any man who volunteers and isnt going career. I did 4 years, my best friend did 4 years, many of my friends from high school did 4 years. My grand father did 4 years in ww2 in the navy and survived 1 sunken ship and 1 torepedoed ship. My dad survived vietnam in the u.s. army in a LRRP. His dad survived ww2 in the navy as well. So I mean were all men here and we've all done <4 years. Didnt know there was a fucking required minimum for your nutsack to drop.

I'm in USMC and when I served I was in the middle of a desert to rescue Navy crew. The Army was helping me and when we got them out and gave the Navy pistols and bolt action rifles they were more accurate than any of the Army and hell they were more accurate than half of my squad as well and there are just as many homosexuals in the Army then there is in the Navy.Ooo-rah

But, tell me something there "sniper", You went to go rescue some Navy unit and just happened to have some extra M9's and bolt guns stored away for a situation like this, huh? Bullshit. Even if you were TO plus some, it ain't enough bolt guns in the SSP to be going around like that. Not to mention that very few HOG's would just give their piece to some random Navy guy to have their way with it.

Plus, they sent your team on a "rescue mission", double bullshit. When someone's in need, we don't send a SSP with a couple of bolt or gas guns, we send a MAP squad to blow them all to hell with air on station. I've worked very closely with my own battalion SSP and know team SOP pretty goddamn thoroughly, so you can see why all of what you've said above, looks like pure bullshit to me. But, you're welcome to go into further detail to clear things up if you want. I have no problem apologizing
