i've been following this tip but how do i get my slap shot to go higher? It usually ends low or doesn't even lift off from the ground

i even follow through with my stick and usually my stick is aimed or pointed at where i want to hit it.

@GuruEdward its exactly the same as a wrist shot....to shoot high follow through with the blade open, low shot follow through with the blade closed. try a short backswing with the blade only a couple inches off the ice and as you get better lengthen your backswing until you are all the way back. hope this helps

Being overweight or pretty "fatty" as I should say gives you a BIG advantage in ice skating. Trust me take it from me a 5'11 125 lbs hockey player. When your underweight like me balancing is SO much harder because the center of gravity is extremely high(even if I crouch) . Even my doctor said my body is flexible; good for gymnastics, track; not so good for hockey

His technique fundamentally looks quite sound. You would get more power if you could get your upper hand parallel to the ice and your stick perpendicular on the load position as this would maximize your torsion and weight transfer. His follow through is not bad either and he rolls his hands over well. He doesn't do it however when he demos the shot but his leg position is solid and square and as a result, he gets a decent shot off.

True everyone has their own comfort zone, but you wanna manipulate this comfort zone depending on where you're aiming. These should be slight adjustments but yeah... moving lower on the stick helps when aiming top shelf. If you're shooting through traffic you want it hard and low so go slightly higher with your grip.

He's 95% right on. The only thing I notice is that he doesn't bend his knees or lean into it enough because he is too big. Otherwise, very good. Finish through with all the weight on the front foot and close the blade. Hkyplyr61 has it on the money.

The way I take a slap shot is shoulders square to the puck with the puck in line with my front foot. As I follow through I transfer my weight forward to flex the stick and then I finish by closing the stick blade and transferring weight all the way to front leg.
