Sure, they also share stylistic and structural similarities. But there are far greater examples of so-called 'ripoffs'. Besides that, when this is probably the most used chord progression in popular music, you're bound to find two that share this many similarities.

This isn't a mashup. Mashups generally imply that two or more songs have been mixed together in a way that they maintain musical cohesion. This is simply playing two songs over each other, allowing the basslines to conflict and vocals to override each other.

I see your point, and the Linkin Park song is very similar to U2's original, but music is subjective and if people didn't like these bands, they wouldn't sell albums and shows.

Although the songs are similar in beat, I dont think that Linkin Park ripped off U2 in any way. I'm not saying this as a huge Linkin Park fan but just in general. And in the end, it doesn't really matter what song sounds like what, they are DIFFERENT from one another and shouldn't be criticized because they sound alike. I'm sure there are other songs you can find from other artists that sound alike. Appreciate music for what it is, or just don't listen to it if you don't like it!
