He didn't say "i love you" to Claire because he wanted to make it seem like he would be coming back. If he said i love you now, it would mean goodbye. He doesn't want her to worry let alone know this is the last time she will see him, otherwise she wouldn't let him go. Even though I wanted him to say it more than anything I can see why he didn't. Man this scene is so sad, I get tears every time.
very tragic episode, even more so that claire never got that letter he wrote and she never got the ring he gave aaron :'( beautifully written episode and charlies acceptance of his death makes him more heroic than anyone else

they weren't allowed to kiss often because the actors who play charlie and kate were dating at the time and she flew into a jealous rage whenever he was around claire.

I'm sobbing all over again. Since Mikhael and Locke apparently have 9 lives, why can't Charlie? Too dang sad that he finally found love and then this happens.
Because he used them up when he got hung, stung by a mass swarm of bees, caught in a cave in, pummeled by Locke, nearly getting blown up in the hatch, etc.
Kill Charlie halfway through the whole 6 seasons, what a waste of the last 3. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU SCRIPT WRITERS??? WHY KILL CHARLIE?
