@rexuro64 Check the slowmotion replay. He had one, even two tyres on the track after his sideways moment. That's the basic rule, at least one must touch the grey stuff ;)
Very funny comments coming from all sorts of morons. They want to see a driver (they despice with a passion) cutting a chicane. But I see a great RACER (probably the best of all time) in total control of a 780 bhp beast.
Just image 780 well fed race stallions pulling a 600kg packet. Then pls have everything under control. If you have never driven an open wheeler, never criticize
Just for the record, it wasn't until now (2011) that "cutting" the kerbs like that is illegal. If i'm right, as long as your outside wheels are still on the track, it's legal. Besides, as mentioned before, he runs a huge risk of losing control of the car if he doesn't do that perfectly.
@abm89 the suspensions on these cars are very stiff (no inuendos intended), so drifting to often could cause it to snap/cause damage, even though it's carbon fibre. Also, the areodynamics are designed so that the air creates most of the grip (mechanical grip), which only helps on straights or high speed corners. basically, these cars are not meant to drift, but most drivers can manage it
@keytek9 I Would say yes, he in my opinion is the best. I have been involved in sports myself for over thirty years and achieved a high level of sportsmanship. When one gets to a certain level , one is capable of taking certain risks, and pull it off successfully, whether this move was intentioned or not, this proves his skill by not losing the car, he maintained Total control over the maneuver. He have proven himself in the wet and dry races, he brakes later than anyone else.
@keytek9 Hey look, it's obvious that he cut it a little more than he wanted and he risked a spin, so don't just call him a cheater for cutting a corner. The way he controlled the car to avoid spinning is simply stunning, so why not enjoy a demonstration of talent instead of calling him this or that ? Tell me one driver that never cut a corner (intentionally or by mistake).
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@lucian1kimiraikkonen aahah who do u know its not a mistake are u saying in 2009 monza wen HE CRASHED was that not a mistake too ?? ahah get ur fact stright bud
@keytek9 yes, because he really wanted to make the car slide even though this slows you down massively... or he really wanted to risk getting a penalty by cutting the corner too much...
@drplbiftin u dont make sense who would want to get a penalty or get a slower time ?? get over my self?? idk how to get over my self it's gonna look hard
@keytek9 No You IDIOT, ONLY THE BEST DOES THAT MOVE, WHEN YOUR CAR LEAVES THE GROUND YOU GOT TO KNOW HOW TO HOLD IT WHEN IT RETURNS BACK TO THE SURFACE AT THAT SPEED
@keytek9 I don't know if you noticed but, most drivers go thru the chicanes the same way (minus the slide). Alonso, Schumacher, Montoya, Vettel, Webber, Raikkonen, Button, Barrichelo, Massa,.....The list goes oooon and on. I guess they're all cheaters huh?
@aieljose Well that is a rule that isn't really enforsed in a race unless it's during and overtake, it's only against the rules if he gains an advantage from it. The only thing that would have happened is his lap time wouldn't have counted towards fastest lap.
@aieljose Its a very hard rule to judge in F1. Very few can throw the car over kerbs and keep control (Hamilton, Berger and Senna to name a few) of the car. If Schumacher hadn't have started cutting corners, overtaking someone in the process and getting away with it, this issue wouldn't be going
@aieljose kurb riding is a racing driver skill, unless they blatantly cut it, then its ok. but mostly its up to the stewards. To ride over kurbs at say the double chicane at the singapore track takes skill
@aieljose No im not saying that, it just depends on how much the driver has cut it and whether they gained time. I would hardly call it cheating, just finding another way round a corner. If race stewards dont like it, then the'll punish. Most corners they arent gunna gain much time anyway in race conditions; maybe 0.1 of a second at the very most. You may point out every rule, but its not you whos enforcing them, that's the stewards job, and what they say goes, unless the FIA decide otherwise
@chadvader93 I'm sure he planned to cut it and drifted only to mask it :P
Seriously, I think you're too strict about the rules. I see riding kerbs as something very interesting to see from the drivers, only the best can master it.
@lucian1kimiraikkonen All drivers ride the Kerbs, and only the best master it, which is why all F1 drivers can because all F1 drivers are the best (rally drivers are pretty awesome too). Yes it was great of him to hold on, and it looked cool, but it was his fault he had to do it, he went straight over the top. That was beyond riding a kerb, that was jumping a corner, not that it mattered because this would lose more time than taking it normally
@chadvader93 No-one cared about kerb-riding years ago, even as recently as 2007 here. Riding kerbs and taking tight corners was not only a driving skill, but something which teams fought over to make their cars do better. Indeed, Mclaren during 2007 dominated Ferrari at Monaco and Monza simply by having better-balanced, springy, suspension.
Watch this video again, then find a clip of the same corner from 2010, where the cars now have to drive round the kerbs, and realise how good this clip is.
@SPECS1992 I'm not saying I'm not impressed by him, but I don't think any driver will keep the drift a bit longer just to be a bit quicker. Most of the times, drifting for longer than a second loses you time.
@MclarenGunner09 Me too. And also in 2008 in the rainy race he was cutting the chicane and jumping on the kerbs and sliding all over the place. It was fun to watch.
