  • 10 people are probably the typical teenie bopper kanye west, beiber, goo goo gaa gaa upside cross on her cross want to be's. #$%$ em' satriani, Ronnie James Dio, Ozzy & black sabbath, Megadeth, Jason Becker, Stanley Jordan, Paul Gilbert, Chuck Schuldiner=just a FEW of the many REAL examples of PROFESSIONAL musician talent. they have better things to do than to work on their air humping, justin timberlake-sound-alike, "look at my bling bling with my $30k rim on my $50k escalde" LACK of skills.

  • 9 people think Rebecca Black has actual talent

  • The camera work is annoying. Like a cheesy 80's video, I just want a shot of joe and the others so i can see how they jam! Not an acid trip for my eyes.

  • the close to jesus as you'll ever get....

  • joe is a bad mufuggar

  • matt bissonette shows his awesome talent on bass guitar in this song. i almost listened matt during the song.

  • LOL 2:56 People are like :O

  • Man, he was absolutely fucking SHREDDING this one! Gotta be the tightest, rawest & most aggressive Satriani live vid on here. An amazing track played like a possessed man!

Big thumbs up from me! Thanks for uploading!

  • that song is INSANE!!!! you are the BEST Joe!!!!

  • I painted this guitar! Nicholas DelDrago

  • @ndsquared Really? Thats really cool if you did

  • @gabrielbeastmaster all angus young does is three simlpe chords he sucks

  • @UpxInsider Hes really good actully i bet you couldent make a song like his with 3 chords. sometimes things can just be simple

  • @Nickdiaublow True it's simple but it get's tiresome to listen to it's boring personally my favorite guitarists are Dave Suzuki Buckethead Joe Satriani Yngwie Malmsteem and Patryk Dominik Sztyber. I have respect for him but i don't like his guitar playing he does have some nice solos though. But that's why I'm a metalhead I love crazy riffs insane shredding and solos that cause eargasms.

  • @UpxInsider

I don't know what is boring to you, but if you think that Malmsteen's shreds are interesting then you simply shouldn't have a say on what's boring and tiresome ;)

  • @Nickdiaublow Malcolm Young makes up all the riffs, Angus just solos. Both are great, despite not being shredders.

  • @Nickdiaublow

I bet you can't take a shit while doing a handstand, but that doesn't mean that shitting in a handstand constitutes artistic talent.

  • @gabrielbeastmaster Angus is great throws on an amazing live too

  • One of these days I'm going to be like Joe.

I don't think anyone believes that, but like everyone reading this, we have to have faith, right?

    You never know...

    Jam on!

  • who could seriously resist clicking this video? the mystical potato head groove thing.... title like that you cant go wrong

  • great techniques from joe awesome than others

  • Man that riff at 3:23 is sweet!!

  • Geez I love that guitar. What is that an Ibanez or a Jackson?

  • @188metalhead881

    its his signature Ibanez

  • @AtanasL Sweet!

  • Fucking exciting song!

  • i threw all my hannah montana cds after listening to this.

  • @emmanuelrodulfo Made me giggle. Indeed great talent.

  • Satch is one of the few shredders who is interesting and enjoyable to listen to. He knows about restraint so it's not all a long stream of alternate-picked single notes.

That two-handed tapping part in the middle where the rhythm section do stabs is just fuckin' insane. I've been trying to play that at even slow tempos for years. I'll get it one day.

  • @whoiscuriousgeorge agreed. I love how he doesn't overplay the music, unlike many guitarist of his skill level (and higher). Great player / shredder and groover. And also a great attitude towards music.

  • gotta love the Satch ...

he is a guitar GOD !

  • This is so Sweet! That guitar is freakin' sick!! I wish I could have one! This song rocks! I think I should try to learn it. :)

  • satch is different style than evh so trying to compare them is trying to compare apples and oranges personally i like satch more and i hate malmsteen metallica and slayer really change metal along with gilbert

  • @DJspin88988 correction... James is the only one LEFT, their was Cliff but he left us to play for the man in the sky.. R.I.P.

  • This is the reason Joe Satriani is God. He's just... the creator of the eargasm.

  • joe is master of all classes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • God I love that!

  • Luister en huiver,Satriani.

  • this was the first joe satriani song i ever heard

  • I can`t show him any respect because Mulmsteen don`t know to show that to another musicial because He`s all like `I the best` but he isn`t that special, he doesn`t have any real artistic inspiration like Joe, yet he`s all puffet up..

  • Yes dude, but I was reffering to a ordinary fast redardik scales thet Mulmsteen uses, Joe is playing them but in such a way that doesn`t remind me of a normal Metal quick - to proove scale..

  • Nobody's mentioning Michael Angelo batio, i don't personally love his music or i am totally devoted to him, but holy fucking mother skills!!!!!

  • Stop arguing! Satch, Vai, Malmsteen, EVH, Gilbert, Petrucci are all outstanding guitarists, and let's face it, you're not gonna argue with them in a guitar duel!

I prefer Satch, but that doesn't mean I respect the others any less. They all bring us music, and music isn't a competition!

  • While Van Halen is good, what has he given us besides one of the most played songs by teenagers and kids because it's "awesome" and "sounds hard", Eruption. Satch is a legend and has given us people like Vai, basically Metallica, and has come up with some of the most melodic songs there is.

  • everything you said was true. but the Metallica thing is wrong. James Hetfield IS Metallica. He's the only one

  • Awesome. the song's name is weird lol but damn we know Joe ownz that song big time

  • pro-tip for people saying Vai and Malmsteen are poser's because of scales and what not, Satriani uses them too!

  • John Petrucci and Steve Vai share the "Best Guitarist In The World" spot I think. But Satriani and Gilbert are close behind them in my opinion.

  • Joe is the Best

    -God

  • Joe Satriani is the best guitarist in the world! Fuck Van Halen, Vai and that fat asshole Mulmsteen! They are posers with them scales, Joe has a great inspiration, and that is the one thing you can`t practise like a scale.. JOE YOU ARE THE GREATEST!!!!

  • Fuck Van Halen? You're fucking retarded, Eddie was the second icon after hendrix to literally change the way people play a guitar. Dumbass.

    Show some respect.

  • You DO know EVERY guitarist uses scales right? Including Satch...

By the way, Vai took lessons from Joe and developed a unique style which carried him to where he is now, and malmsteen is another virtuoso, like slayer666metallica said, show some fucking respect.

  • You fck retards, offcourse that he uses scales but in an original way, with the inspiration, not like those others pricks, with no form, like dumbasses! Repeat! - Classic fast `wanna be the fastest` scales, not scales throught the inspiration like Joe does!

  • Malmsteen? a virtuoso? guitar god and shredder maybe, but he doesnt make his stratocasters SING anywhere near enough to be called a virtuoso. I respect the man for his style, but dont call him something he's not.

  • Yngwie plays neoclassical, it's a completely different kind of music from what Satch and Vai play, but you can't deny he is one of the most technically gifted guitarists out there. I'm sure if you see him playing black star live you'll change your mind about him not making the guitar "sing". In my eyes, he's a virtuoso as well as an amazing composer.

  • in your eyes, yes.

  • Joe Satriani is the best guitarist in the world!!! Fuks Van Halen, Vai and that fat pig Mulmsteen! They are nothing but posers with that scales of theirs.. Satriani have a great inspiration and that is one thing you cannot practise like a fucking scales! JOE YOU ARE THE GREATEST!!!!!

  • dude joe uses scales too...

  • eddie van halen is the true guitar god, much better than joe satriani. joe sucks compared to EVH :D

  • theyre both amazing. but Satriani is much more complex dude..

  • joe satriani is the best but satch boogie is the best song ever made

  • He dubbed it with his name... obviously it'll be the best song ever :P

  • best song ever (for now)

  • I'm seeing chickenfoot at this same venue in denver in a few weeks.. can't freaking wait!!

  • what is that chord at 1:22?

  • D5..

  • shithead, his guitar is singing better than any human voice

  • Amen

  • His guitar does the singing for him..Toolio

  • Comment removed

  • Kickass song... love the bass line.

  • Joe -is- a nerd, that's the beauty of it! :O He writes songs about the Enterprise and Borg and Kurt Vonnegut novels, that's nerdy. And it's cool! That's why Joe isn't just some guy who can play guitar really well.

  • He's a geek that can shred like no other, and he's not ashamed of being a geek.

That's what gives him his charm.

  • amazin joe at his best

  • keep your fucking uneducated opinion to yourself, you dumb mother fuck

  • hearing this song a year ago made me pick up the guitar that had been gathering dust on my wall for years. Thank you Joe

  • which is the exact model name of that guitar?

  • It's either a JS1200 or JS1000 I think. I could be wrong though.

  • my favorate satch tune love the vibe on this one check out my channel for more

  • that name is hysterical...

  • where could i get exactly this version to my mp3?

i would need a fast answer please, thanks.

  • I think there is a CD version of this show, maybe you can look fot it.

  • you can rip youtube movies and save as FLV.

then with FLV to MP3 converter....

  • I've been practising that 6-string sweep for 2 years in the way he does it; still to no avail.

    Brilliant player.

  • Don't cry!

Satch says that he has to practise it daily to be able to perform it live...

  • is not sweep picking because he does not use the pick

  • That's correctly, but it's the same pattern as in a sweep arpeggio, and the right hand is to mute eventually blur and noices that comes with the distortioned tapping. (sorry if english sucks i'm from Sweden :)

  • Poor rhythm guitarist is drowned in the mix.

  • I love the part where he do those legato.

  • im the one whos brainwashed? and hes your god?

  • Oh no he means it. Joe Satriani is the God christians pray to every night

  • why in the hell do you say that Satrianis a nerd?! you douche! the day you can play this song is the day I agree with you... thats right, ittl never happen.

  • any idea where to get a shirt like his, ive been looking for it forever, just cant find it :(

  • it's from Electric eyewear (CA) u ass licker :P

  • Damn all my T-shirts cost no more than like 5 bucks...... hehehe

  • wonder what specs his mystical potato ibanez has compared to his other ones...

  • no they canceled on him because he was too badass

  • His guitar <3

  • The best live cover

  • I was at this show (g3 in Denver) and I gotta say, I've been to a LOT of shows since then, and this one still wins! The human capo during vai's set was ridiculously badass, especially with Billy Sheehan playing the bass.... They shoulda used Vai's band for the jam session, but that was still just amazing... Fuckin Yngwei though man.... jeez

  • how chunky is 2:59 ... my favourite part of the song. heavy! ;) love you and your heavenly music satch forever!

  • better than anything hendrix did

  • lol what a spazed up name for a song XD but i like night elfs better i think they got more dps on there weapons :)

  • um what?

  • Alright... I'll clear up the confusion of this legato deal thing. He is playing a legato, however, he uses his right hand to... make the sound quality better? I don't know how to describe it, but if he doesn't cover the strings with his right hand, then the strings would vibrate and it would just sound nasty... he does a lesson on this, and it IS quite interesting :)

  • You're right, he's muting the strings using the right hand so the legato still sounds smooth and the notes don't ring off.

  • yeah pretty much, he uses his right hand to mute the strings, which stops any open string notes ringing. Then plays what i think is a major scale or a mode, which sounds cool.

if only he played surfing with that guitar

  • haha i love how you can't see the frets on his guitar

  • Satriani is amasing

  • i would kill for that guitar!

  • man we totally took over the comments on this page lol

  • he is tapping with his left hand accross the strings, its left handed sweep tapping and legato! tapping doesnt have to be two handed it just refers to the technique of hammer ons and pull offs together, and isnt Satch a genius on guitar for inventing it? i havnt seen anyone else do it before anyway!

  • what i am saying is that when picking there is a moment in time when the string is muted, if you froze time at the moment the string is being excited by a pick then the string will be at rest until the pick moves away from the string, with left handed hammer ons and pull offs this state of rest is reduced in time therefore creating a more legato affect, and im refering to playing on one string alone, on one string legato is technically impossible if you had ways to measure it perfectly

  • all of you need to stop acting like u know what ur talking about EnragedGoat has agood point about ibanezbloke cuz he needs to shut the hell up

  • ibanezbloke...shut up, sereoulsy, no one here thinks your clever by putting pointless comments up, who cares and wants to know if he sweep picks? no one, so shut up and just pay tribute to the gods of guitar, dick....and satch ruuules!

  • It's amazing. A lot of times, when I watch Satriani play, I forget that he's in his early fifties. He's Outstanding!!

  • The point is: how cool is Joe's guitar? Simply amazing

  • one of satriani's best songs!

    simply love it!

  • What happens at 2:59? Two of his back ups turn their heads quick and look over like he messed something up.

  • lol that looks pretty funny

  • I wish I had that guitar :(

  • Sweep picking is a PICKING technique. At 2:36 Joe is playing legato, i.e., he's not picking AT ALL. He's reaching over with his right hand to mute the open strings basically turning it into a tapping instrument like a chapman stick or a warr guitar.

No doubt Satch is a capable, er, "sweep picker" but I didn't see him using that particular technique in this video.

  • Well, wouldnt you call it tapping? I see what you mean by legato, but theres no picking involved at all, so isnt it just left-hand tapping?

  • I don't know if there's already a name for that little trick he does but, if not, "left hand tapping" sounds as good as any to me. :)

And how do you know he hates sweeped arpeggios?

    Satch, is that you?! ;P

  • Honestly, I cant remember where I heard it, but I know that satch imself said it. it was probably in a guitar world article or something. It might be in a youtube video, but I cant assure you of that

  • dudes it is legato...legato means no picking...alot fo poeple play legato without using the pick at all, its just easyer and cleaner if you start each string change with a pick

  • Actually legato really just means smoothly. Its easiest to do legato with hammer-ons and pull-offs, but its not impossible with alternate picking. I know legato is basicly accepted as being the technique of hammering and pulloffs, but it really just refers to the timbre of the music. Just saying, is all

  • haha somones been on wiki

  • legato means smoothly between notes i.e. no space in time between notes, i think i would call it one handed sweep tapping, Satch is a

    fucking mint player!

  • latago doesnt mean no space in time between notes, it just means to play smoothly, and on guitar to play smoothly you dont pick so not picking is lagato and hes not picking so its lagato..

  • i dont think you understand the physics of what not picking means, it means theres no time between when the notes begin and end duh!

  • lol no..if you pick theres no time between notes, same when you dont pick, hitting the string doesnt change the time between the notes, dur..so saying that lagato means no space between notes is retarded.

  • it is retarded cos thats not what i said, i said no space in TIME between notes, theres no time between notes with legato. i.e. one note smoothly flows into the next, your the retard for not understanding what i said

  • if we plot a graph of time vs note loudness for a guitar and pick some notes we will find there is a space on the graph on the time axis between notes. If we play without picking for the same graph there will be no space on the graph between notes in the time domain.

  • Heres what wikipedia says "the Italian word legato (literally meaning "tied together") indicates that musical notes are played smoothly. That is, in transitioning from note to note, there should be no intervening silence." No intervening silence i.e. no time between notes dick head

  • lol when u pick a note there isnt a silence your left hand is doing the exact same thing as if you was playing lagato, all your doing is keeping the string vibrating. lagato is the same as picking but without the pick, so how can you say there is a silence when you pick? all there is, is a louder noise from when the note is picked. and since this is about guitar dont start bringing stuff into this that is out of context, lagato on other instruments means differnt things.

  • i understand what you are saying but it can get confusing when guitar musicians think differently to all other musicians (i myself am a guitarist but i prefer to think of music holistically rather than being pidgeon holed into one narrow minded state) As for picking, like any other form of picking (particularily harpsichord) it is impossible to play legato because pick pull on the string causing it to be temporarily muted rather than say bowing a string or striking a string which is different

  • OK so i dunno how we got into all this but i think the first question was something like was that thing satch was doing left handed tapping or legato, and in guitar as far as i know tap is done with the right hand and legato is done with the left hand, and are basically the same technique, so since satch did it with his left hand, it legato right?

  • Also, I just want to say, Satriani doesnt really sweep pick because he usually hates the sound of arpeggios played up and down like that

  • he is the best...

  • i have the album of that show, simply incredible.

  • primo version. who is the bass player?? - he is slaying it... this song is my favourite reading from the gospel of joe.. like johnny depp in edward scissorhands - this guy - he make-a-me cry!

  • bass player is Matt Bissonette. he is awesome :D

  • Where exactly did he sweep? ...

  • 2:36

  • those arent sweeps..they r arppregios in a B minor with an added 11th...no sweeps.

  • well, it doesn't matter who the best guitarist in the world is.. all that matters is the music...

  • i tottaly agree with you!

for me kirk hammet is the best, but he's nothing compared to other guitarrists .

(i am portuguese sorry my stupid english)

  • there's NOTHING wrong with your english there buddy lol

although take into account, Kirk was taught by Satch lol

Satch n Gilbert are MY personal faves

  • yeah they'r very good but i love the way kirk plays xD

  • LOL....duh, its called a joke?!

  • Jerry Sienfelds performance on the drums here is very good.

  • you mean THAT Sienfeld ? in the serias?

  • the Jerry Seinfeld . . . wow if he did play those drums hes cool.

  • Joe made the G3 tour though so he'd have to be in it. So I guess it would have to be called G4. But anyway that would be one kick-ass line up for sure!

  • He's so good and so creative it's unbelievable.

  • joe sat..it's juste the best!

  • can't compare, two different play styles.

  • There is no real list, but I would call him the best.

  • This guy is literally my absolute favorite guitarist, mainly because he blew my mind when i first heard him when i was 4, and he still does.

  • Joe Satrani is no doubt the best guitar player in the world hands down. He has the tech.....the tone.....he understands how to create music and what a fucking guitar player. Thanks joe for all that you have done for music and us guitar players. I have a Js 1000 and a Jsx amp and a peavey xxx amp and they sound amazing.

  • he can shred...thats it...there is no way this guy is the best guitarist in the world....do yourself a favour and listen to gilmours solo on comfortably numb...then see if you still think satriani is the best guitar player in the world
