Aguas... is one of the best songs ever written, and one of the last bossa novas (1973). It is hard to watch, knowing that Elis had a tragic end in 1982 from cocaine at the age of 36. Today, her daughter Maria Rita tours the world in her own right. Jobim was one of the top songwriters of the 20th century and the father of bossa nova along with Vinicius de Moraes; although never a great singer, fans worldwide forgive Jobim that due to the large body of great songs he left us.

I could not agree more: who cares if they are lip synching? This is an utter joy, Very few things can one watch time and again in blissful happiness as if for the first time. I say this even though there's no question they are lip synching. When Jobim repeatedly pivots away from the mike his voice registers consistently, no audible change. Impossible. As anyone who has performed in a recording studio knows. Digital or analog is irrelevant. WHO CARES! I AM SO HAPPY TO HAVE THIS IN MY LIFE!

I am from Brasil where those singer are from and NO tehy are not lip-synching they really sing like that and was even better alive.She died years ago but he is still alive and singing beautifully. Elis (her name) she was and is one of the most respectfull and famous singer in Brasil back in the 60s and still is today.

Plus isn't she smoking a cigarette in the second half? Not likely while tracking vocals, right? Maybe it's supposed to be the joint that makes her lose her mind at the end? haha

i'd bet my life that that is sung live. synching sometimes was lost w the old chemical based film. digital there is little room for error as digitising is far more precise... tho i gotta say i prefer the older sound. digi is too clean and neat.

As I have said in a number of earlier posts, the proof that they are lip-synching comes in the middle of the clip when Tom misses an entrance. I guess I have to give the exact moment - it's just after 1:30. That's proof that they are lip-synching, in addition to the cut at 1:58.

Also, "old chemical based film" never led to synch problems. All sound films since 1927 have had perfect synch, up to this day. As a film editor, I know there is no problem with film maintaining synch.
