  • Now its easy to plug in an electronic drum set. The new midi connection/game controller works great. I have a Roland drum set, and every note is on the money. I agree you cant learn drums like playing in a real band, but I disagree that you cant build on your timing like someone mentioned earlier. if you expose yourself to a song long enough your timming will have a good start if anything else.

  • I'm with you rage2,... I was raised by a drummer and never got into any instrument. My wife got me rock band2 and i played for about a year and i just bought my first real set 2 days ago....and it has really help for limb independance. and as far as timing it comes with time. learning and practicing the same song till you can play it in any cover band....

  • Are you retarted? You don't learn to play drum.. I play real drums. I once used to play rock band on expert. But when i first tried a real kit i couldn't play anything.

  • i play reall drums. think i mite go test this out

  • For me u doin great! Keep goin' :))

  • itsnot that u werent hitting the right symbols its that u dont have as big of drumset as lars keep on rockin man

  • they are playing enter sandman wrong in the intro on rockband hahahahah

  • Great drumming by the way!

  • I'm doing the same thing but I've only been playing less than 2 weeks. Unfortunately my apartment limits me to electronic drums, but check out my videos anyway. Rock Band Definitely makes the learning curve shallower.

  • I love how people complain to others to 'play a real instrument', now this guy has gone and done just that and proved everyone that Rock Band isn't a useless skill, yet people still bitch.

I also learned my drumming skills from Rock Band and now have a drum teacher who told me my demo I had to give the first time we met was 'the best first demo I've ever seen'.

    Besides, Rock Band's fun. =P

  • holy shit dude, same story here! been playing drums for a year and 8 months, been playing rock band for a year and 10 :)

  • so is it really possible to learn to playi real drums

with rock band. or get an easier start in it?

    pls anwer!

  • Yes... I converted to real drums for RB as well. And Now I can play about anything on drums. Anything REASONABLE. And Rock Band helped with me with stamina and rhythm.

  • What RockbBand drums will basically teach you is timing, and the ability to coordinate both your hands and your foot to do different things all at once.

You can then transfer that coordination easily onto a real drum kit. I've learned how to play basic/intermediate drums thanks to RockBand.

Not gone further with it because im a singer ^-^.

But, hope that answers your question.

  • if youre good at rock band drums, youre guaranteed to have a very solid start at playing real drums.

  • it helps with rhythm and coordination, just the basic stuff, but theres alot you still have to learn out side of rock band, i got my start on druming with rockband

  • k now play some 12/8 bar blues ...o wait....you are learning from a game console

  • u can deffinately learn how to play drums with rock band and gh, but u can nevr perfect it with it. its deffinately a great start though.

  • your playing the intro wrong but the rest is exactly the same

  • How dare Led zeppelin say that you cant learn how to play a real instrument through video games.

  • you cant....

  • I learnt the basis of the real drums chart for run to the hills through rockband.

and now i can play it :)

  • its charted wrong and u still couldnt read it on sheet....and u prolly just play something that sounds like it

  • No i play real drums and ive read the actual music charts for this song i only used rockband to work out the weird tempo change in this song I was just saying its good for people just starting as it is quite close to the real thing in comparison but its good to know that there are people like u who dont need to insult other people just to get there point across :)

  • its not a weird tempo... pretty straight forward 4/4with a mff tempo.....

  • So you cant notice that the tempo and drums of the song continuously change speeds during the song listen to it carefully.

  • the funny thing is that it doesnt.....its a mff tempo the whole way....begining played with 16th notes and WHOLE rest of song with 32nd

  • yh i know it is but you cannot expect the game to be bang on so i was saying that the songs tempo changes continually you would have to be retarded if you couldnt notice the difference between the speeds of the intro and the rest of the song i was saying the tempo for the rest of the song continuously changes not from 32 to 16 but the tempo changes.............. slightly

  • ive read the sheet music and the tempo doesn't change....only in the beginning....

  • you dont understand what i mean anyway im not in the mood for this discssion anymore .

  • i dont know what u mean cause i play real drums.....and w/e u just know im right

  • Yes you can o_O

  • alright so tell me in music terms what the song is read as and the tempo signature

  • dude do you not understand the points everyone has put across? obviously if you play rockband you're not going to understand sheet music or anything like that. it helps with timing and coordination. stop trying to sound cool or cocky or whatever you're trying to do

  • yes very good, I wanna learn drums

  • you shouldnt be using rock band to play

read tabs the intro isnt like that rock band add those extra notes to make it harder.

you probably dont know but every cymbal hit in there is a accent meaning you hit it harder the regualar notes.

theres still a few more tips you need to learn but im not getting into to it right now

  • freaking sweet man nice job even if you mess up a few times

  • NICE

  • i was thinking the same as you, just missing the real drums

  • you are too fast, the song is more slow!! However, great job man!

  • @sealmeu

    No hes not to fast!

  • learning fast, great job

  • nice good job

  • not bad..not bad at all

  • in the begining u play it wrong u just hit ur medium tom then wer it wud go blue and yellow u just move 2 ur small tom dont hit medium and small

  • man u aren't bad at all, its a good start. 4.5/5

  • Yea i do the same thing. Dis is Enter Sandman awesome song :)

  • dude im an intermediate drummer and i learned chopsuey, painkiller, two weeks, and others by playin rock band as well, now who said games don't teach nuthin hmm

  • your room is a mess XD

  • He looks so tense! And scared. Its funny. Honestly dude. I started the same way you did with no lessons and random guessing at whats what, but learn up on it first. Learn to choke. Learn the real tom part. Learn what Lars does when he plays. Otherwise your okay

  • im only 12 and i can play wont get fooled again on real drums without screwing up so prety much anyone can do it if u put ur mind to it

  • Rock Band is nothing more than "Monkey See, Monkey do." There is always a beginning to everything, including playing a musical instrument. It takes a lot of study, a lot of practice, a lot of patience and a whole lot of fortitude. You can be part of the journey and create or you can simply imitate.

  • i never played drums either. got hooked on the game and took up drums. i'm awesome now

  • Lol I tried this too. Fun stuff.

  • Red = Mostly Snare but in some songs like rtth and everlong it becomes the closed hi-hat

Yellow = Closed hi hat, and switches with red for everlong etc, also the hi-tom, cowbell (noticable in "the trees")

Blue = Low tom, and ride cymbal, open hi-hat, cowbell(noticable in "the trees")

Green = Crash cymbal, Floor tom, cowbell

  • nice goin man, ill give it to ya. this is one of my fav songs to play

  • This video is really good considering you are not a drummer.people need to get off their high horse this guy enjoyed music making this video, isn't that what it's all about. He is not auditioning for julliard.

  • Nice vid. BTW the rock band colors aren't always correspondant with certain drum parts, rock band interchanges these a LOT. Red is ALWAYS snare though, yellow is usually high hat (tom during fills) blue is floor tom most of the time including fills, and concerning the HUGE range of cymbals green covers pretty much all of these depending on the song you play really. But it's always a type of cymbal.

  • yellow is either high tom or hihat

and blue is either low tom or ride cymbal

    and green is crash

  • blue is also an open hihat

  • what stands for what? cause im figuring out that red is snare, green is cymbal... but is hihat yellow or what?

  • Red almost always is snare. The only times I can think of it being something else is during songs like Run to the Hills, Everlong, Teenage Riot when it switches to hihat and Yellow becomes snare.

Yellow is usually hihat or tom tom.

Blue is usually when they switch to the ride, or a deeper tom than Yellow.

Green is crash 97.6% of the time, or it's a deeper tom than Blue. In RB2 fills, however, it switches to a slightly dented garbage can. :P

  • LOL

you look like the drummer from guitar hero 3 when you play.

    tight.

  • thats true

it's the "robodrum-4000" as i so fondly call him

  • Oi mate, this is an alright video, due to quality, however I like your ability to play under such little practice compared to the Pros.

This is great, you've done a good job, and well ya. thats about it.

  • that sounded realy good.

  • I am a drummer, and the problem I have with rock band is it dosnt teach you to play drums. It teaches you to fake playing drums. Because you are playing to a song, not with a song. Its a little big differance. Its the same as people who play drums in their basement to nothing but playback, you do not actually learn to keep time or be the band leader (as a drummer is). If Neil Pert cant play his own song, something is flawed.

  • While rockband doesn't teach timing terribly well, it DOES teach limb independance (well, everything but the left foot). It's a great start for any aspiring drummer IMO.

For a guitarist like me, I already have an excellent sense of timing, so all I needed was to learn how to independantly control my hands and feet.

And yes, I can play a few songs on drums with my band no probs without going off time now.

  • Thats really really really funny you say, my run to the hills video, every little single note I hit was off rockband... yet it sounds exactly the same...no that could never be right could it, note to yourself, I do play the real drums.

  • play with a band... that makes you a drummer. Or at least play without playback.

  • I am in a band yet i use my mp3 player when im alone.

  • u have to be good at keeping time before u play with a band. if not ur gonna throw everybody off. i play guitar and i used to play with a drummer with some sick chops, but sometimes he would go off time and it would mess us up when we would try to record. he couldnt play to a playback or click track cuz he never practiced that. he only played with bands so his timing wasnt that good.

  • @BigWilly53 Ha well i can play basic beats and fills now because of rockband. But I've kinda always had rhythm so I'm a cheater i guess lol

  • @BigWilly53 i do that it sucks i can play songs while listning but without the song or drums in the song i can't play it, :(

  • I know its tempting to call yourself a drummer after playing Rock Band... but really there is alot more.

I really appreciate the fact that you plan to move to drums because of Rock Band (This world needs more drummers), but 2 months of drums doesn't increase your skill or technique (Unless you practice non stop).

Try practicing simple drum beats before moving into the world of musician-hood and calling yourself a drummer because of Rock Band.

  • I never called myself a drummer. This video was my 10th time playing drums. I'm not going to be a drummer. I'm a guitarist and will continue to be. I did this to prove that Rock Band is a great tool for learning how to play drums. I practice the drums here and there for fun, fill in before our drummer shows up with simple beats and simple fills. That's it.

  • Sorry bro. I get a little annoyed with Rock Band sometimes... I tend to voer look things and make myself sound like a jackass in the process.

    Sorry man.

  • Not bad at all better than me (considering I am still saving up to get my own set) keep at it and you will get better.

  • rock star

  • Astrejim is a fag

    and it's Carnegie Hall dumbass

    your just jealous

  • Oh gee. Can Guitar Hero make me a concert pianist who plays at Caregie Hall within 1 year? Oh, you mean that isn't possible with guitar hero? You mean I have to take 15 years of classical training on piano, exams, musical theory, harmony, counterpoint etc.

  • Yeah I played piano in Guitar Hero too. Asshole.

  • good idea man, i can jam out on rock band on expert on this song and would LOVE to be able to play real drums... problem is i gotta get a set HAHA. keep up good work and keep posts coming!

  • oh dude i knew rock band could give you real drum skill! i don't even play drums (i play guitar) and i picked up drums occasionally while playing rock band with my friends and within just a few times playing i'm now playing on expert (on hard for the insane songs like run to the hills and won't get fooled again). i really noticed that if i sat down at a real kit i would be able to play something because i can even drum roll now.

  • not a bad first try at all, good job, especially playing metallica

  • I just got a drum set today and started doing the same thing. It's hard to tell which toms and cymbals to play sometimes but it's really helps in learning the drums. Keep up the good work

  • Yeah, I've been playing expert drums on that song [in game] since I've been doing the rest of the game in Medium. It's a very easy song to pick up on, very repetative and a lot of fun. =)

I'm getting a real drum set here in a few months.. Can't wait.. And you do really good, I'd suggest doing something with that kick drum.. It's kinda annoying. =P

  • Nice job. You can lower the hi-hats and bring them closer to you which might be more comfortable to you. Also when hitting the snare visualize a straight up and down motion instead of jerking your arm back.

  • I think Rock Band is a great way to visually see what the drummer in that band is playing, and also a great game to work on timing. Because you pretty much have to have perfect timing on expert or you'll miss notes!

  • i dont really like rock band, ive been playin the drums for a few years, im in a band as well which is good

  • oh its a beautiful thing! I do that with my kick as well, I have a roland, and its amazing! Much more fun to play on your own though and rock out and add your own fills, just got to stay on time, love that metronome! I've heard a rumor that somehow the GH4 drum kit will let you plug in an electric kit to use instead, I'm so there!

  • Yeah, there was rumor of that.. They never really said for sure.. I'm thinking not though, because not all electric sets have the same ammount of pads, or are of the same company and blah blah blah.. So if Neversoft is willing to spend all that time and set up the configurations for every drumset, model, and company of electric sets then cool.. But I'd much rather have theirs, it's cheaper and I'm getting a real set anyways. =P

  • Awesome. Nice work man. Been playing Rock Band since the day it came out, and finally bought a set of electronic drums to learn on tonight. I have been taking "drum lessons" over some internet sites over the last month and have been waiting to buy the real kit. You got me pumped now.

  • according to the game developers, "if you have been playing rock band for a few months and are playing on hard or expert, you are really playing the drums, you could sit down at a real drum set and bang out a song if the music was played." so i can see this happening

  • they also added, "now that is really learning something from playing games all your life"

  • lol i can play expert on maps and i did it on drums lol

  • i can do maps with out looking its a pretty easy song if u no it

  • since playing the rock band drums i wanted a real drumset i told my mom i think im gonna be good cuz i play good on the rock band drums this vid explains it i just i wish i had enough money for a drumset lol

  • See this works with most songs. But alot of songs rock band lies to you to make it more intresting. The begining part with the toms isnt right. Theres 8th notes on the floor tom and you hit the left right left not that way. But it works with most songs :P

  • sounds good

  • yea thats sorta how i learned the song i mainly watch the dude while he played the drums so i could see exactly what cymbols and the timin but yea good job dude

  • this is pretty sexy

  • What songs that ive heard it, just forgot the name.

  • enter sandman - metallica

  • Not bad, glad do see you translated something from it :P

I know RB would never help me on the bass but it's still fun to strum the RB guitar like a bass

  • Oddly, I do the same :P

  • This is great! Nice job

  • This same sort of thing happened with guitar hero... Everyone flocked out to buy a guitar because they were good at guitar hero...

Though, if it makes you feel better, you're like one of the guitarists that actually learned to play after getting that guitar rather than bitching because 6 strings was too much.

  • this is deifferent. the drumming in rock band actually takes coordination and whatnot, and most actual dummers can do well on the higher difficulties once they get a simple feel for the game.

in guitar hero, it is actually detrimental, i have found, to play real guitar. makes you do stuff that isnt there, or hammer notes that should be hammer-ons. i know this because i have beaten the career on expert in guitar hero and rock band, and play real drums, i am halfway through expert career, im newb

  • Yeah, I play bass in real life now ... and my GH/RB experience has been screwing me up, it's awful, I need to learn how to strum with my index/middle finger :/

  • agreed...i've played drums for about 8 years now, and i beat the game on expert, but only with my real bass pedal :))

but they did say if u can beat the game on hard, so can basically play drums in real life...this video is proof...good job man!!!

  • OMG!!!! I"M NOT THE ONLY ONE!!!!! I am a rockband beast, and my friend had a drumset, and i tried it and iwas actually quite good. I'll post a video response!

  • yeah ive never wanted to play drums more than after i got rockband, i play and get 5 stars on all teh songs i have, i master every one i download(not to brag), i want a real drum set and im saving up, cant wait to get em either.

ive olny played on a real set twice and what i learned was like a basic rock beat...[hi-hat 4 hits implement bass and snare] man, this summer!!!

  • i see you like hitting the cymbol on your right lol. out of habit i guess. i would do that too if i started playing real drums. i might start after watching this video, thanks man and keep it up.

  • Big surprise: I got rockband as a christmas 2007 gift as was surprised how I was decent at the drums. Once I got them home I have not touched them until now (June 08) and now getting a bit serious with Rock Band drumming so I came here after I had the thought of getting a real drum set. Dude your on your way man and maybe I will be as well! (Will wait till I can master a few Rock Band HARD songs b4 putting the bank on a real set!) Thanks rage2amg! Glad to see a gamer turn into a real drummer!

  • This is the exact thing that i did i never played drums till rock band...and 3 months after rock band i can play run to the hills

  • on real drums

  • That's awesome! Ya, I never really went further after this since I'm a guitarist (although I do play drums for simple stuff when our drummer wants to play bass). GH4 will be even better for drummers in training!

  • lmfao, im also a guitarist, ya it will be cool, i havn't put video on yet tho maybe tommorow

    lol

  • What are you talking about? I want to see you play! This is Great I love it!!

  • i play real drums and this is awesome..but when you get out of the intro u keep the hi-hat loose for the rest of the song..but overall awesome

  • bad ass

  • Wow. That's amazing. Nice work dude. Sounds awesome!

  • awesome job man, I just graduated to hard on RB, glad to know that I can use some of that knowledge to real drums. Never bothered with em before, but they are fun as hell! Keep it up man you are rockin it!

  • It's amazing -- my 13 yr old is so good on RB with sandman that I encouraged him to try it behind my acoustics. We used the S&M live vid here on youtube to get the opening tom sequence down. Gives a camera angle from behind Lars.

  • mi cousin is the best drumer

  • I'm sure he is.

  • mi cousin's name is alex he play extreme songs

maybe he can make the hardest songs in the rock band

  • I thought the name of the drummer for Extreme was Paul. I can play extreme songs awesome. I rocked More than words on drums!

  • I believe you

    I was just saying

  • Haha, not too bad at all! Really impressive. Bravo!

  • nicely done :D

  • Pretty good ;)

    Keep rickin'!

  • haha hes watching teh vid on practice i bet

  • haha just for some parts

  • Pretty good for self teaching, keep it up!

  • i'm in the same situation then u buddy...by the way, get a new camera :P that one stinks

  • very good! keep practicing

  • metallica not bad !!!

  • ...and that's why you fall out of time in 3 seconds. Not bad for rock band though.

  • Nice!
