NOT EVERYone with a high pitch voice can sing these" ethnic" tunes...you need to have certain throat to sing IT THE RIGHT WAY..she's British, so it's nasal, and she can only go up high squeky pitches and hold them...but singers like Dulce Pontes can do it way better ....cuz they SPEAK the language, ! :) she's way too slow!!!!!!!!!!!
Dulce Pontes is portuguese and the song is in french TOTALLY different languages. My first language is spanish and it´s quiet difficult for us sing in french. BTW Dulce Pontes is a mezzo soprano.
I don't think its nit-picking by commenting on the tempo. She is singing this song much slower than it is supposed to go. I'm singing this for my junior recital in college, and I take it way faster. It really isn't that impressive to sing this song slowly...big deal if you can sing a lot of note in a row slowly. If you can do them at the indicated tempo...kudos. But like I said, anyone could do this at her tempo...and sliding up to your high As really isn't commendable.
Thanks for the insightful comment; you make some good points. I think it is fair to say that no performance is ever 100%; after all, the human voice is fallible. I watched other renditions of this aria, some were better, some were worse, but none were as good as I hoped. I'm probably not being objective, since a good performance does not have to be perfect, but I was expecting more from the other trained singers. I felt that SB's was the better of the ones I've watched, but I'm not an expert...

Well, what else can you expect from an opera-wanna-be singer? Tempo bad, scooping the notes, not to mention the awful breathing. Oh, and this is good compared to how she performed it last time O_o

Yes, the best for a non-coloratura soprano, and non opera-trained soprano..
If you hear a really trainned soprano this performance isn't good as it should be...
