  • beautiful car, its nice its being cared for

  • Beautiful American classic.

But in need of some TLC.

  • @helmuthoorn Thanks! Yes, it could use a little work. Unfortunately, the car is in Iowa and I live in California, so that probably isn't going happen anytime soon. I gets driven a few times a year and is garaged. Maybe someday I'll be able to spruce it up a bit.

  • @batt409

Doesn't seem to need an awful amount of work.

Why don't you give it a little overhaul and drive it to sunny California?

    Sure it' ll make it.

That's what these babes were built for..

  • You are fortunate this car was equipped with the 3 speed Torqueflite rather than the 2 speed Powerflite transmission. This trannie makes the performance of the car a lot more flexible.

  • @itsmegp46 Although I've never driven a car with the 2 speed, that's kind of what I thought.

  • Thanks for your video. I love the classic cars with the big fins.

  • @faithfulcmm1972 Glad you liked it.

  • @faithfulcmm1972 Glad you liked it.

  • Absolutely magnificent car. I had one of these in 1984 and have long regretted selling it. Have you noticed that the Dodge emblem above the radio is the ashtray? You push in on either end and it will flip around and reveal the ashtray. Also, when you shift the transmission, you can select straight from reverse to drive, you don't have to push reverse-neutral-drive.

  • @FarginBastiges Thanks for your comments. Yes, this has the revolving ashtray. I suppose you're right about shifting from reverse to drive. I think I picked up going to neutral in between from when my grandfather drove it.

  • My dad had a 57 lancer royal black! I was born in 1957. we had that car until the late 60's. But I remember every detail of that car! I never knew you started it from the trans button though!

  • of the early 70s with passengers, and full luggage in tow. It's funny how Lancer at this time ment Dodge Royal Lancer, or Custom Lancer, yet if you were to say to someone today "Man I love Lancers, they automatically think your talking about a Mitsubishi!"

  • Thanks for sharing this video of your great looking Dodge, which has become my favorite classic American car. Thanks also for demonstrating the push button trans, as I'm too young to remember that these even existed.

  • @redmr2na Thanks for the comments. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • @batt409 Sorry if you got this twice. Did the push button trans not have a Park button? I see a Reverse, Drive, and 1, and 2 button. Also the middle button both the ignition switch, and the nuetral button for the trans?

  • @redmr2na Yes, to both questions. There is no park position. To park the car, put it in neutral, then set the parking brake. The middle N button is kind of a two position switch. When pushed in about 1/2 way, it puts the car in neutral. Pushing it in all the way engages the starter. I misspoke in the video, calling it an ignition switch. The key turns on the ignition, N in all the way starts it. The 1 button is low gear only, 2 is 2nd gear only, D = 1,2,3. Thanks for your interest.

  • @batt409 Well, I've been a foreign car fan my whole life, but I'm starting to develop an appreciation for older American cars, and I really like the looks of the late 50s Dodges, over the comparible Plymouths and others from the era. This era is when American cars had style, class, and were individual. All of these cars had V8s, there was no such thing as a American car with a four pot, unless it was a budget model. These cars had raw V8 power, and could easily walk from a Honda or Toyota...

  • I bought one of these for $35 in 1975. It had 73xxx miles, but had a few more options on it than yours. Tan & Black. Same engine. Working radio with 3 antennae. Bury the speedo with 11 people in the car. Could put 8 people in the trunk. Still have the original owners manual, featuring the 'hiway hi-fi' record player. Plays at 25 RPM. Had to buy the records at the dealership. 2nd best looking instrument panel I've ever seen next to the '64-66 Thunderbird. Smooth, quiet, roomy.

    I'd like another.

  • A friend of mine has one of these with the 325 HEMI.

  • When I was growing up we had a 57 Dodge. What I remember most is the push button transmission. Ours was a two tone light green and white.

  • Thanks for the comment.

  • resto soon to happen?

  • Probably won't happen for a long time. The car is in Iowa .... I live in California, so I barely have enough time to take it out for a spin when I'm back there, let alone do any serious work on it.

  • Thank you for sharing your memories. You have a beautiful car. God Bless you. Russ Goodsite Campbell, Calif

  • Thanks. It's just kind of fun to go back in time once in a while and drive it around.

  • good vid mike :)

although, it's much more impressive when you're actually driving/riding in it :)
