  • Looks like a great setup.

  • @jolietjake1970 Thanks, although I do have a much better hitch system for it now. I show it on the sled update vid. I can switch it from this bigger sled to a smaller one too :o)

  • I just picked up one of these sleds and am glad to hear that it pulls well for a sizeable load. 55 pounds is a fair amount of stuff. I hammock camp, so I can't see having a canvas wall tent that probably weights 55 pounds alone. I also don't have a stove either. I've seen pictures where some have used 2 of those in tandem to haul more stuff. I think this sled can't be beat for its price.

  • @bwillan Yeah they're a pretty tough sled! This was more of a test. I wouldn't normally carry that much weight either :o) Wall tents are way more than 55lbs. my friend :o) More like 200 lbs...hehe! you pretty much need a snow machine to haul one of those!

  • nic polk, and that is a great price. compared to 600.00 dollars from some of the bigger companies

  • @fustratedfisher Thanks :o) The other vis has a much better hitch that can go onto both sleds!

  • where did you get the duffle bags?

  • I got the bags at Walmart for $30.00 ea. North 49 :o)

  • nice vid - very informative - glad to see some more winter hiking vids!

  • Thanks friend :o)

  • Excelent ideea! Too bad I have short winters here and is not worth it for me. But the ideea is great.

  • Thanks buddy :o) How long does your snow last normally ?

  • @Ggreenvideos In the mountains there is snow about 5 months/year. But is hard for me to get to the mountains. In the city usualy a few days :) Except this year when is snowing for two weeks now.

  • Good work,friend!

That`s really a good one.Looks like it is fun to make one.

    Greetings , Chris

    5/5 stars

  • @BlackForestGhost Thanks my friend. I appreciate that :o) I just improved the hitch design as well! Just have to get out and test it and do the update vid.

  • Show us your new hitch design if you can.

  • You bet buddy! I'll try and do that within a week hopefully! It involves spending more money, but the design is far more reliable with no slack in the system...which is good. And it still comes to around half price of buying them. I designed it to be a quick release from the sled to attach to a smaller sled for day use. So that's a real bonus. Since the big black one is designed more for multiday use! Be patient with me bro :o)

  • Great setup! DIY is so much more fun - and a lot less expensive! Send some of your snow south to the Puget Sound area! Enjoy you two. Thanks for sharing!

  • Thanks buddy :o) I'm sending some snow your way now...hehe! It seemed to work for bushmag! Ready?, here we go !!!

  • Excellent setup there. I was looking at the Pelican sled last week ....It can be found in Canada at any Canadian Tire store. How long are the poles you used for the "hitch" ?

    Take care,

    Bluefin

  • Thanks man :o) Canadian tire is where I got it...hehe! The poles are 3 1/2 ft. long for my 28" snowshoes. I remodled the hitch system tonite. I used more hardware so it's more reliable and no slack in the system. I'm hoping to do an update on it...hehe!

  • Hehe! I can put bells on them just for you :o) Wheels hey? Hummm...summer pulk? Thanks buddy :o)

  • Love the opening. The video images and music are awesome. How do these work when you are hiking down hill?

  • Thanks buddy, I appreciate that :o) That is the purpose of the poles, so the sled doesn't run you over...hehe! You have total control of the sled. If the hill is too steep you can simply unhook and slide it down in front of you. Providing you have good grippy snowshoes like the MSR Denali's :o)

  • nice job on the sled...you used the same Pelican sled that i used for my DIY. i wanted ti uses the Paris Expedition sled it is not available in Canada eventhough the distributor is in Montreal?

i hope to have a video of mine up soon.

  • Thanks man! I didn't realize it was seven pounds though, until I looked it up on their site! Good strong sled though :o) But I'm redesigning the hitch already...just a bit :o)

  • Pulk Power .... made and pulled one last year! Good dang stuff........

Good to see ya' back on!

    Shug

  • Thanks "Trail Master Shug" I have to tweek it though! But it will make it better...I hope...hehe!

  • Where's the step and handle bar so I can ride on the back, Rich? Wouldn't it be more effective if both you and your wife pulled me from the same sled? hehe.

  • Probably would be! Do you want me to come pick you up too ?...hehe!

  • All the way from your backyard? Can you handle that? hehe.

  • Yup...see ya next year :o)

  • That was great you did a good job there Rich I really enjoyed the editing. But to the sled the design looks great I want to get a canvas wall tent and stove someday for winter camping and a Pulk sled is the only way it could happen minus horse back . Glad to see you and the wifie having fun together.

  • Thanks buddy :o) If you're considering a canvas tent and stove you will probably need a ski-doo & Skimmer :o)

  • Cool sled Rich...I like it...5/5

  • Thanks buddy :o)

  • Nice setup! Looks like it works really well. And to make it yourself, all the better! :)

  • Thanks buddy :o) I like making gear when ever possible. As long as we can build it as good for less money. Iv'e discovered a new design for the hitch which will be more reliable. But...had to spend more money too !

  • Nice one! 5/5! thanks for sharing my friend!

  • Thanks friend :o)

  • Love the simple design for your pulk. Are you winter hammocking? If so what kind of insulation system are you using? Keep it up brother!

  • Thanks man :o) We haven't used the hammocks in winter yet, just gearing up for it. Hopefully soon :o)

  • Great Video !!!

love the Pulk Sled..i made one myself this year ...didn't ge a chance to test mine out yet but hope to do so soon

  • Thanks man :o) When you do it would be cool to see a vid!

  • Nice sled and setup Rich. You are a true North Woodsman, out there in all that snow with no gloves on. I would have frozen my hands off. I see you saw my video from yesterday and our typical January weather :)

    Jim....

  • Thanks Jim :o) It really wasn't that cold though. -12C or so :o) Your Jan. weather can be nice sometimes too!

  • Also, how about using bungee cord instead of paracord? One big piece feed the same way and then you can just pull it out of the way to access your pack.

  • I like paracord better than bungee for this. It's still quick :o)

  • Use furniture polish or car wax on the bottom. Let it completely dry, then before you go out, rub some snow on it. That will really help it slide well. I do that for the kids saucer sleds and they fly really good. Thanks for sharing.

  • Thanks for the info! I'll try that :o)

  • Nice job Rich

  • Thanks man :o)

  • I will forward this to my parents in Maine, they could use this for their excursions into the bush.
