You are keep saying to foreign media to stop Heysteria about radiation but with no clear reason why you insist of safety? if you are confidence about radiation safety in japan
Please tell us why you think so in logically and scientifically. Other wise nobody lessen to you!
@rose312water Not enough space here to write everything. Please read IAEA, WHO, and UNSCEAR reports on Chernobyl. Then compare the situation to Fukushima NPP1. They are not comparable.
Yes, we were worried for a time. There is still some danger of thyroid cancer for the children who lived near the Plant. We need to monitor them for many years. But again, there is no need to panic.

Mr.Daniel, You keep forcing foreign people to remain in japan but if you are so confidence about the safety of radiation there. why don't you says more logically or with scientific prove! I look at you as you are one of well know Japanese speaking TV guy in Japan so you have to say as you have to do. I feel it from you. No clear message to encourage us to stay there. as you keep showing anger only with no clear explanation.
You're quite right:) I think that the lack of knowledge is causing people to misunderstand the nuclear crisis in Japan. This is what's causing meaningless concerns... I really respect you for this video=] By the way, I saw you a couple of times on NHK and NHK world. And I have a question I'd like to ask you... Can I PM you?:S (日本で生活することについての質問なんですが・・)

Are you still there ? if so why get out now .They will lie to you ,do you think that Tepco or the Japanese government care if you die or me for that matter. Wake up they are liars that would watch their children die for power and money. You really need to stop trusting your life to these bastards they really don't care about you.Who cares if the Japanese people dont like me i will tell it like it is and has been from day 1 FUBAR my friend Get out while you can.
@TheDanielKahl I don't get the historical records ref. the last time we had anything similar to this was 25 years ago in the Ukraine But that turned out fine didn't it. They have a massive problem still there on controlling and containing the contamination. The truth about the scale of that event is now coming out and millions were effected. Even where i live in the UK areas have been polluted for thousands of years to come.
@allsafe1 I do not think it is a joke at all . I think it is a sad reflection of the human race that people can do this type of thing. I have nothing but praise for you and your efforts to help these people that doesn't change the fact that Tepco and the Japanese government have systematically lied and continue to do so . My comments are not trite but considered but the truth is sometimes a bitter pill.

Hey Mr. Kahl. Why is it that your video is almost identical to Tokyo Cooney's? And posted within a day of his? I encourage people to view both videos. It's almost as if they were given talking points by some PR firm and told to make the video. They both talk about panic, about freaking people out, etc. The thing is NOBODY was panicking in Tokyo and there was no looting. Radiation is all over Tokyo and they're covering it up. You've done a really, really bad thing Kahl and you'll pay 4 it.
Japan's okay, thanks to the help of other countries <3
I agree, foreign media were exagerating a lot!
I went to japan this year in July & there was food, i could drink water! no problems, well apart from the places like Fukushima or Sendai.
I'm 13 years old and i can see that there's no panic, the foreign media are not even in Japan and are hysteric. :) Save Japan , well i think were already recovering right now :)
What are you talking about? There's no harmful amount of radiation flowing into California... I live here. You're obviously getting your information from American "news" stations who are sourcing their information out to the most creative storyteller living in a different state.... People like you are why the Japanese earthquake got surrounded by disinformation.
Daniel, thank you very much. Yes, we Japanese are NOT in panic. Sometimes, foreign news reports look strange for us. We know this terrible situation, but we do NOT lose hope. Japan is a technology country. We have already started works to absorb nuclear on ground. We hope Fukushima evacuees can go back to their home town in the future. All Japanese peoples will continue to support the work strongly.
I suppose you are correct. My daughter and granddaughter of 8 months live in northern california where they are also getting harmful amounts of radiaton daily. I beg them to move away from the coast, but I get the same response from them as you. Soooooo,
I should keep my mouth shut and just think about the planet lineups on the 11th and the 26thof Sept. and the comet ELEnin coming soon. GOD BLESS US ALL
IF YOU CAN DEBUNK DR. LEUREN MORET (NUCLEAR EXPERT) AS WELL AS ARNIE GUNDERSEN FROM FAIRWINDS I WILL STOP GIVING OUT THIS WARNING ABOUT _______GETTING OUT OF JAPAN____ NOW!
@ARTILECT4U What the hell do you want us to do? Leave Japan? Do you know how stressful it is for us already? We have family, a job, a house, everything in this country and we can't just abandon everything and forget about it! We are well aware of the seriousness of the situation and the risks of radiation. Can't you just freakin get that in your tiny head?! But at this moment there is absolutely NOTHING we can do about it! If you have a solution to all this, send it to out government!
Didnt officials said that the nuclear core of sereral reactors melted into corium, just as in chernobyl?
Isnt reactor 2 beheaded, releasing heavily irradiated fumes in the open?
Japanese politicians and tepco execs have been lying in our face.
You can live in Japan, but if u are not among the happy few, then all you know about the situation is a mix between what the media say and what the people around you think, say and want to believe.
And your opinion here is not more valid than mine.
@labete0869 Another moron pretending to know what is REALLY going on in Japan. The majority of us in Japan are aware that the government and TEPCO has been lying in our faces. None of us are underestimating the radiation-induced risks. But what choices do we have? Think about it. If you can come up with a solution for everyone living in Japan, then let us know! You're an idiot if you think we can just leave this country and start a new life elsewhere!
Well, no I dont have a solution for people in Japan. Some things, once done, cant be undone. The best that can be done now is deal with it, avoid being delusioned by false appeals on "there is no worry", and avoid worrying uselessly.
I understand that this way is a hard way.
I hope that mankind will now give up on nuke power for such a thing never to happen again.
I wish luck to you and all those living in and near Japan.
DON'T LISTEN TO THIS VIDEO, IT WILL KILL YOU......GOOGLE DR. LEUREN MORET , A WHISTLE BLOWER EXPERT WHO IS SAYING GET OUT OF JAPAN NOW....IT'S GENOCIDE THAT THEY ARE DOING. YOU CAN ALSO LISTEN TO ANOTHER EXPERT.....GUNDERSEN FROM FAIRWINDS..WITH THE TRUTH. GOD SAVE YOU ALL.............LOVE AND LIGHT
@ARTILECT4U How can you convince anyone of your version of the truth if you start out with a line like that? Speaking of "truth", can you explain to me why the number of deaths from the Chernobyl accident, as reported by the WHO, IAEA, and other int'l organizations is "less than 50" including 15 thyroid cancers fatalities, while your sources claim that "millions" are affected? Truth probably lies somewhere in between. It is difficult enough for us here in Japan without your scaremongering.
Actually it's eight times Chernobyl, with all the spent fuel inside. Beware the experts, especially when they cannot know what's going on either, like on 18th March when this was uploaded. It's not just that they don't know, it's that they CANNOT know. There can be no observations or measurements around and in the containment. Also experts lie. Over and over. Hysteria and panic are justified and helpful to save people's health and indeed lives.
Thank you for this message. I am a Dutch guy Living in Scotland at the moment waiting for my Japanese fiancee to join me here. I got really upset with the Dutch media when I was there when it happened (it took them at least 3 days to get someone on the tv to explain about radiation). And even now my fiancee has to keep reminding me not to panic because of what I see on the news here, so your video really helped.
Just as in Chernobyl the real impact of these disasters isn't seen for decades. Many of the deaths and genetic aberrations take a long time to surface and by then we've forgotten all about the event. We'll be standing around scratching our arses wondering why the cancer rate has skyrocketed. Duh?
@felixq78 Agreed. But the world learned much from Chernobyl about how to properly respond to such accidents. Chernobyl was a horrific disaster. I've seen some of the PR films. Absolutely sickening. But being on the ground here, I can assure you that Japan is taking every precaution to prevent its people from getting cancer decades from now.
According to Fuji TV, 250 false reports(by foreign media) were found..so this result is understandable...(this issue is not only about the interpretation between English and Japanese..they have to analize what they have done this time..to prevent the next case..クオリティーの悪い情報は今回のようなパニックだけでなく、実際に在日外国人に"危険を及ぼす可能性"がありました。。
Someone needed to do this for us and it's amazing that it's a foreigner like me! :D
>.< Foreign media caused my family to think we were all dead, even though we live in Osaka. grrr!!!! :D 30 years ? that's an amazing amount of time in this beautiful country ^-^ I've only lived here for about 3-4 now with my mom and dad and brothers

highly recommended info I've been following.. /#!/hayano (ダニエルさん、これはお薦めTwitterです。) ((Ryugo Hayano=Physics Department Chair, U. @Urdalibertine THAT statement is pure hysteria and has absolutely no basis in fact. Turn off your TV for a minute and see my blog for radiation figures updated daily for all 47 Prefectures (daniel.domos.jp). Don't listen to the pseudo-experts on the infotainment channels.
I'm only 15 Japanese girl and I just wanna say there's so many foreign people who doesn't know the truth behind the nuclear power plant here in Japan. Media was so exaggerated! They're only scaring themselves. Don't you know many people died in the Tsunami not the Nuclear Power Plant, then the foreign media keep on broadcasting in their countries that it is affecting those people who died here in Japan? Open your minds people, If I were you, PRAY and do what you can do for JAPAN!
I saw your show on TV and was looking for a youtube video to share exactly about this situation! You're working so hard for the Japanese people and your message is getting shared with our friends abroad and in Japan. I am encouraging people to do the same thing you're doing. I'm encouraging and helping people visit Japan now in order to do my part!

@dracostimpy Fukushima according to the Japans government this has released more radioactive material than TMI thats why it was upgraded to a level 7 each level has a certain amount of radioactive material can be released until its moved on to the next level along with certain things like has a worker been exposed (yes) has a worker been injured (yes).
I fully support you. I've been writing the same story as yours in English on Youtube and in Japanese on some blog sites, especially about how low and harmless the radiation level is in most areas of Japan. Despite many people do not believe you or even call you a liar, please keep up good works.
Thanks, Daniel-san. This is exactly what I wanted to say to the press. They put a story as if the workers at the plant was scheming another nuclear explosion or something behind the trees (around the plant) and the town is dead because of the radiation. That was neither news nor fact based story but just a scary tale. And it was on the LA Times! I was sickened! So I'll pass this to whoever I know. Thank you!! You are my hero!
Also those what foreign media stations report frighten our families abroad. Please believe your own family living in Japan, not the broadcasting!!!
I think foreign people who live in Japan, but don't understand Japanese had to depend on the news of their own countries in their own languages caused this kind of panic which I can't blame. ( I would be in the same situation, too.)
I strongly support your action and agree what you said in the video. My husband is from India and it is just ridiculous what Indian media stations reported about Japan this time. They even said like Japan is one step before being completely destroyed. My husband says Indian media stations get the news from British medias, so British are like this, too? Or Indians put too much Masaras(spices) to the original? Anyway, I really felt media stations stick to business than reporting the truth.
hi,I'm from Japan close to Tohoku district. I've been in Japan all my life. I just knew about this video on TV. Thank you Daniel telling them the truth. What he says is fact. All we need is the truth. Now the radiation level is below average. We started using tap water. There is not much problem with radiation at the moment.
@NJB87NJB Key word... 'at the moment.' Look at all the kids with cancer and alopecia born in the aftermath of chernobyl. Do you think Tokyo electric will report on that or take responsibility? Their president wouldn't even come out in public until recently. Way to take responsibility. His workers lacked the proper radiation suits they needed and he sent them to get radioactive water splashed on their legs. Maybe we should just put one of those stupid white masks on the plant, that'll fix it.
@horriehomepage I know what you mean, and I totally agree with you. But see the news around the world, they tell any lies. Like one I saw is 'Japanese wear masks because of radiation'. In fact, there are many people wear masks, but not because of radiation. Because of hay fever. You can see those people in this season any year. A bad thing might happen, (I mean the explotion of the nuclear power plant etc)The point I'm telling is different. I care if the media tell the fact.
Take this video down. Fukushima is worse than 3 mile, but not YET as bad as Chernobyl. TEPCO can't be trusted. They've been caught lying in the past, and now they're using their workers like dogs. There is thousands of years of geological evidence that huge tsunamis have struck the area. NHK takes a large amount of money from Tokyo electric, so that news outlet can't be trusted either. I speak Japanese and I have been watching the propaganda. Here's a phrase for you: Better safe than sorry.
The Japanese govt withheld info and they've admitted the radiation released was far higher than they initially reported. MSNBC reported today that Seiji Shiroya, a commissioner of Japan’s Nuclear Safety Commission, suggested a public policy reason for keeping quiet: “Some foreigners fled the country even when there appeared to be little risk,” Well, there WAS risk, they just weren't reporting it. They were trying to prevent foreign bankers from leaving.
first of all: the japanese goverment ??? how can you trust them ??? they never give out any information, unless its obvious , they have no plan at all ,..and make so many mistakes,....they now finally decided to make a wider evacuation, but why so late ? also they raised the alert level to 7, which is the highest. but again: why so late ?
you say its no 2nd Chernobyl, this is true, but still just because this is no 2nd Chernobyl doesnt mean that the situation is very very serious.
Thanks Mr Kahl. You speak English.... In my14 years it is the first timeto hear your speaking English instead of your famous 東北! I admire the position you are taking - it so sums up how I feel. I have come to real love this country and its people and especially its language, and it really hurts me to see it being misrepresented by media who have no real knowledge of the country or about nuclear reactors. The situation at the nuclear plant is dreadful, but i don't think you are covering it up
Can't agree more, Mr. Kahl!!! Now it's even getting worse, and FINALLY government officially requesting the foreign media to share the fact with correct information!
"Nuclaer plants located in Shibuya" "All Japan is on fire and attacked by tsunami"
all these unbelievable lies...harmful rumor doesn't help us!!! Japan is a small country, BUT NOT THAT SMALL!!!

I really can´t believe your nonsense about panic.
All of the tsunami-hit reactors are out of control, propably all in meltdown and the spent fuel pool with enormous amount of Uranium and MOX-elements, too.
The total amount of leakage has already become thousands of times the amount of Chernobyl and will continue to rise for months.
@TheDanielKahl Japan May Raise Nuke Accident Severity Level
NIKKEI.com - 1 hour ago
TOKYO (Kyodo)--The Nuclear Safety Commission of Japan released a preliminary ... The level 7 on the International Nuclear Event Scale has only been applied ...
@TheHomoludens From 1 > 2 > 3 > 5 > 7... that is the story Daniel is suppose to tell. Good job Daniel, WHO PAYED YOU? It's a shame that people make money by telling lies. I hate to say that, but Tokyo will be a ghosttown within three years.
@blattmacher Tokyo is far from being a ghost town and far from becoming one. there are many foreigners that chose not to panic and run around with no purpose. you think they were all payed? Get your facts correct. there are foreigners that have access to the research institutes and can make an evaluation by themselves for the radiation levels and they chose to stay .
@TheHomoludens Its not even close to Chernobyl yet. The emissions are around 10% of the final radioactive materials released from Chernobyl. But Mixed oxide fuel is pretty harmful
Thank you for being the voice of reason in the midst of this mass hysteria. The western media is indeed causing unnecessary panic and diverting the attention from where they are needed most. It's a matter of life and death for those affected by the tsunami, and yet some of those communities have hardly received any help because the media is busy exaggerating the nuclear crisis and no one knows what's really happening.
Daniel, you need to be specific on your claim, and you need to avoid oversimplifying. Some media do groundless scaremongering, whether coming from Japan or overseas, and others do give critical analysis on solid, verifiable grounds, also whether coming from Japanese or foreign media. You also seem to imply that media should be the government's spokesperson. In that case many Japanese media are doing an excellent job, but I don't believe that's media's role in a democratic country.
Thanks Daniel, you're doing the right thing to make people really understand what's going on in Japan. Your words are much clear than any Japanese politicians or energy experts on TV. Japan is loved to whom really think for Japan, not for those looking for a golden pot over the rainbow.

You lying hillbilly sack of shit. My family has lost everything, their home, their livelihood and their future. You are riding the corporate gravy train to a comfortable retirement. Who are your corporate sponsors and what are you getting for playing this bullshit role? I have nothing but contempt for you and your stinking cunts of corporate sponsors
@manukedegomen I am very sorry to hear of your family's loss. I have spoken individually to over 900 evacuees from Minami-soma and neighboring towns in the last week and NOBODY is more angry with Tepco than these people. With very good reason. Their livelihoods too have been taken away.
But in the interest of fairness, I do not work for Tepco. Never have. I asked the int'l media to stop over-exaggerating their stories to prevent panic among the foreign community here. I never defended Tepco.
I agree with Daniel Kahl. One of the fact lacking news I came across last week on American TV medea, ABC world news Diane Sawyer. It was something like this. "The whole US is contaminated with the radiation flown from Japan and now the milk from cows has radiation detected. In this news coverage, they failed to specify any numerical radiation readings in any part of the US. They did not compare the radiation readings between Japan and the US. (To be continued)
@manukedegomen (Cont. from prev. comment) They did not explain how possibly radiation can fly all the way from Japan to the entire US (from California to N.Y.). They did not tell that there is radiation in the atmosphere in normal times. They needed to specify the difference between the radiation readings before and after the Great East Japan Quake. They did not even tell the audience there are 104 nuclear reactors across US, the no.1 nuclear plant country in the world. (To be continued)
@manukedegomen (Cont. from prev. comment) The radio active readings ABC thought came from Japan may not have come from Japan but have come within their own country. I am not an expert on radiation, but even non-expert like me can point out ABC’s lacking concrete evidence.
As a bilingual myself, I`ve been terribly annoyed by how some of the media, foreign and domestic, have turned this into infotainerment. I can literally see words and sentences being twisted in translation(perhaps SOME of them unintended), in order to make for a more exciting news day. I am no expert on nuclear stuff, but as far as sources go, the conservative and "boring" media outlets have been much better in terms of actually delivering the source and explanation. Thank you, Daniel-san.
Thank you so much Daniel san, I've been worried about that foreign countries might reject all Japanese stuff even it was totally safe.
good job, great point, Daniel san. your suggestion is pretty good even(again) for japanese who live in abroad like me... how much noise i got from media here and people since the day... i wished all the time to let me concentrate into the truth which happens in home land around friends and family... i agree japanese government is not really great but things are not such simple like westerns imaging...
ダニエル、[東北弁の外人は大丈夫かな、と思ってたらこんなところでがんばってたんだね。ありがとう。がんばっぺ! Thanks Daniel. I got you are the man who is real friend of Japanese. We Japanese will be able to show our big smile to the world with SPECIAL THANKS. Many countries give us the hands to help Japan. I can not find a right word how to express our thanks. Daniel is also helping us not to spread the groundless rumor. Thanks Daniel again! Many American baseball player are waiting for open the NPB game starting 4/12.. Don't worry!
Cheers Daniel. I`ve always watched you on TV and found you refreshing. I shall look at your blog more carefully. Keep up the good work. It is all too true that some foreign media have raised such a scare that now food imports from Japan are being banned or heavily screened. I still suspect that history of TEPCO and info control by the Japanese govt are also factors, but perhaps I am giving too much credit to the media in assuming they know about Japanese history.
Actually, your point is also a good one. There should be the same standard applied to the International media--and many of these outlets get their stuff from NHK World. We are in agreement that too many Gaikokujin just packed up and left. I am an associate professor at Nihon Joshi Daigaku, by the way. I do worry, however, that scapegoating one side plays into the hands of those who say Japan is all on its own.
@CurtisGayle This vid was made at the height of the media frenzy. Things are calmer now. However, int'l media continues to exaggerate. Their claims such as "radioactive contamination has spread over much of northern Japan" (3/30 CNN World) is untrue. See links on my blog for proof. By blithely saying this, w/ NO DATA, they now threaten the livelihood of the farmers of N. Japan. China has already refused shipments from even the unaffected areas of Japan. Such is the hysteria. daniel.domos.jp
@TheDanielKahl Ok, found your website and the data. I admit, I was mislead to believe, that the leaks were more severe. I still think humanity needs new ways of dealing with energy supply...
Daniel, many of my Japanese colleagues left during the early days. This is not just a foreign media problem. I have been here throughout the ordeal. You dont seem to address this issue. Why not? Why also do you seem to believe what the government and TEPCO tell us? Where is your healthy skepticism?
@CurtisGayle I don't know where you work, so I can not comment on specifics. / Yes, the Japanese media has hyped a lot of things happening here too. Fortunately, the Japanese have more than one source for info. But for many in the foreign community in Japan, their SOLE source of news is TV tabloid programs pretending to be news shows. / I don't believe everything. They've all made some mistakes, yes. But if I may ask, where is YOUR healthy skepticism of the int'l media?
@TheDanielKahl Mr Kahl i watch and listen to CNN and MSNBC and BBC news. Is their anything that they are reporting that is inaccurate because they are saying scary things and even local media has reported of trace amounts of radioactive material from Fukushima
@TheDanielKahl Yes, the media is creating this wave of hysteria and riding it at the same time. But your idea that they care, or will listen to your pleas is misguided.
Worse than that is your plea for us to believe or listen to the government and Tepco. Before the accident they had one standard of safe levels and afterwards they more than doubled the standards of acceptable contamination.
Do you know how to tell they are lying? They are talking, that's how!
I totally agree with you Daniel, lots of international media rather attempts to make their readers fear of the occasion in Fukushima than tell the true facts at the disaster area.
The fact is that even as of today, March 28th, people here in Japan are still remaining calm while those outside Japan continue to be hysterical. That is true whether one wishes to argue that it "has surpassed 3 mile island." Furthermore, I continue to be amazed and thankful that despite the M9.0 quake and tsunami, this plant was made so well it was not completely destroyed, nor did it immediately go into meltdown. Simply amazing how well it was built.
Daniel-san. I appreciate what you're trying to do but is it fact that Fukushima surpassed Three Mile Island. Although this is not a meltdown or recriticality, they are still releasing the steam that contains radiation into the atmosphere and that makes this worse than Three Mile Island. So many Japanese experts are pointing out that. Sad but true.
I live in Japan and tried very hard to ignore foreign media and the response of acquaintances overseas to foreign coverage of the situation in the Japan. In the end, I left a for a short while, mainly to spend some time with my family. When I landed in Newark and was greeted by news reporters fishing for sound bites, the only thing I had to say was "chill the fuck out"
Dear Daniel, I am very glad you are safe and sound, I have been a big fan of your entertaining shows on NHK for many years. Praying for Japan always and wishing a quick recovery.
Hitachi and Toshiba may win $2.4 billion of nuclear power plant orders from a Hitachi official said.
The two Japanese companies, which make electronics goods as well as power equipment, have signed an engineering agreement with Tokyo Electric and aim to officially win the contracts by the end of March, Hitachi’s spokesman, Yuichi Izumisawa, said by telephone today. Hitachi will supply the reactor while Toshiba will provide the turbine and generator, the Nikkei newspaper reported.
Pay no attention to some of these idiots in the comments, I think you're doing a fantastic job informing people of what is really happening. I have to say for someone who wants to pursue a job in the media it's very disheartning to see how hysterical news stations and papers can become.
Do you have any good news sources to read about the current radiation levels in the food and water that you can suggest? It's hard enough for me to find a reliable and honest news source for US events, let alone something going on in another country. It's a shame we cannot trust the media :-/
Mr. Kahl, I continue to read many of these nutty comments from the USA with utter dismay. It would appear that the reason the media loves to feed Americans "hysteria" is because Americans themselves demand it! For you hysteria-addicts, search YouTube for "dr john boice radiation". He is a nuclear expert who backs up everything Daniel Kahl has said. There's no need for hysteria.
@TheDanielKahl...No Daniel, your right this is NOT a second Chernobyl...The is the first Fukushima...And IMO, when this is all said and done, it will be FAR worse...Chernobyl Had one reactor with far fewer fuel rods...Do you honestly think that they will prevent a full meltdown?...If so, HOW?...Do you make it a habit to trust what the government of Japan or any government is telling you...Who do you work for?...What do you honestly expect them to say?...The TRUTH?..LOL...Please
@killuminatirooster ok we are one month later. so how is this worst then Chernobyl? all apocalyptic, end of the world scenarios didn't come to life. the foreign media particularly US one reported fantasy news as usual not only i the case of Fukushima. During a crisis people need realistic information not Hollywood type of news. nobody is trusting the Japanese government without checking other sources but you should also not trust 100% want is delivered on TV.
@vilyaarda I DONT watch the television, but thanks for your AMAZING insight..I said NOTHING about an apocalyptic end of the scenario...Did you even read my comment?..Are you even paying attention at all???...You think that the mainstream media is telling you the truth???...Daniel said in his video that this was nowhere near the level of Chernobyl..I disagreed and since I posted that comment they have now reclassified this event to list it at level SEVEN..So, I do NOT really understand your point
@killuminatirooster the scale doesn't not measure the similarities between the two cases. Chernobyl and Fukushima keep being two different scenarios like the mars and the earth are different. Just because both are round and planets don't make them identical cases. I lived as a small child Chernobyl and now Fukushima. I can make the difference. not everything is a conspiracy theory.
I also live now in a city in Japan where most research institutes reside . My university makes independent monitoring of water and radiation in the air as well as several research institutes. the data as mush as we love conspiracy theories are similar with the government release. Many foreigners have access to labs do you think they will be crazy to stay with their families and lie to themselves things are fine?
@killuminatirooster The scale from 1 to 7 you are speaking about does not measure similarities between the Chernobyl and fukushima. The cases are different same as mars and earth are different albeit both are round and classified as planets. I lived both bot chernobyl and fukushima and in no way the situation are same. Chernobyl case was in a very different political environment and a fully functional nuclear plant.
Thank you all for your support of Japan. Many volunteers from o'seas are now working side by side with local residents to begin the rebuilding. I hear folks up north really appreciate it.
Some people ask why I made this vid. My goal was to calm things down in the foreign media because their sensationalistic reporting was causing panic in the "foreign community in Japan", often whose sole source of news IS foreign media.
We don't really need any more "manufactured" problems at this point.

You are keep saying to foreign media to stop Heysteria about radiation but with no clear reason why you insist of safety? if you are confidence about radiation safety in japan
Please tell us why you think so in logically and scientifically. Other wise nobody lessen to you!
rose312water 1 month ago

@rose312water You think I have FORCED people to stay in Japan? Wow.
Please read the reports. Fewer than 50 people died around Chernobyl. None have died at Fukushima. It is sad what happened. But it is not a panic.

Oh yes, and make sure you read ALL the historical records regarding nuclear accidents before you advise people to evacuate the whole country.
TheDanielKahl 5 months ago 5
@TheDanielKahl I don't get the historical records ref. the last time we had anything similar to this was 25 years ago in the Ukraine But that turned out fine didn't it. They have a massive problem still there on controlling and containing the contamination. The truth about the scale of that event is now coming out and millions were effected. Even where i live in the UK areas have been polluted for thousands of years to come.

Hey Mr.

Daniel, thank you very much. Yes, we Japanese are NOT in panic. Sometimes, foreign news reports look strange for us. We know this terrible situation, but we do NOT lose hope.

TheDanielKahl 9 months ago 2
Actually it's eight times Chernobyl, with all the spent fuel inside. Beware the experts, especially when they cannot know what's going on either, like on 18th March when this was uploaded. It's not just that they don't know, it's that they CANNOT know. There can be no observations or measurements around and in the containment. Also experts lie. Over and over. Hysteria and panic are justified and helpful to save people's health and indeed lives.

And also all off the kids here. All because off an accident in Japan. Where they build a reactor, where they were advised not to.

Just as in Chernobyl the real impact of these disasters isn't seen for decades. Many of the deaths and genetic aberrations take a long time to surface and by then we've forgotten all about the event. We'll be standing around scratching our arses wondering why the cancer rate has skyrocketed. Duh?
felixq78 9 months ago
@felixq78 Agreed. But the world learned much from Chernobyl about how to properly respond to such accidents. Chernobyl was a horrific disaster. I've seen some of the PR films. Absolutely sickening. But being on the ground here, I can assure you that Japan is taking every precaution to prevent its people from getting cancer decades from now.

All we need is the truth. Now the radiation level is below average. We started using tap water. There is not much problem with radiation at the moment.
NJB87NJB 10 months ago
@NJB87NJB Key word... 'at the moment.' Look at all the kids with cancer and alopecia born in the aftermath of chernobyl. Do you think Tokyo electric will report on that or take responsibility? Their president wouldn't even come out in public until recently. Way to take responsibility. His workers lacked the proper radiation suits they needed and he sent them to get radioactive water splashed on their legs. Maybe we should just put one of those stupid white masks on the plant, that'll fix it.
horriehomepage 10 months ago
@horriehomepage I know what you mean, and I totally agree with you. But see the news around the world, they tell any lies. Like one I saw is 'Japanese wear masks because of radiation'. In fact, there are many people wear masks, but not because of radiation. Because of hay fever. You can see those people in this season any year. A bad thing might happen, (I mean the explotion of the nuclear power plant etc)The point I'm telling is different. I care if the media tell the fact.
NJB87NJB 10 months ago 3

All of the tsunami-hit reactors are out of control, propably all in meltdown and the spent fuel pool with enormous amount of Uranium and MOX-elements, too.
The total amount of leakage has already become thousands of times the amount of Chernobyl and will continue to rise for months.
If there´s panic, then definitely rightfully so!

Thank you for being the voice of reason in the midst of this mass hysteria. The western media is indeed causing unnecessary panic and diverting the attention from where they are needed most. It's a matter of life and death for those affected by the tsunami, and yet some of those communities have hardly received any help because the media is busy exaggerating the nuclear crisis and no one knows what's really happening.
mariellejpn 10 months ago

(To be continued)
nobbbby1972 10 months ago
@manukedegomen (Cont. from prev. comment) They did not explain how possibly radiation can fly all the way from Japan to the entire US (from California to N.Y.). They did not tell that there is radiation in the atmosphere in normal times. They needed to specify the difference between the radiation readings before and after the Great East Japan Quake. They did not even tell the audience there are 104 nuclear reactors across US, the no.1 nuclear plant country in the world. (To be continued)
nobbbby1972 10 months ago
@manukedegomen (Cont. from prev. comment) The radio active readings ABC thought came from Japan may not have come from Japan but have come within their own country. I am not an expert on radiation, but even non-expert like me can point out ABC’s lacking concrete evidence.

Thank you.
I've been twice in Japan last year.
A wonderful country and a noble and kind people.
I pray everyday for the sake of those who lost their loved ones, their homes, everything.
And I am always eager to return to Japan, and it will happen as soon as possible.
People of Japan, I love you and will never let you down.

Thank you, Daniel-san.

good job, great point, Daniel san. your suggestion is pretty good even(again) for japanese who live in abroad like me... how much noise i got from media here and people since the day... i wished all the time to let me concentrate into the truth which happens in home land around friends and family... i agree japanese government is not really great but things are not such simple like westerns imaging...
anyway, thanks Daniel san and take care.

I tend to agree Daniel, foreigners panicking and leaving
Japan is a big, big overreaction, and quite unnecessary.
The real problem is in the tsunami hit areas.
HaggisMacfee 11 months ago 3
Cheers Daniel. I`ve always watched you on TV and found you refreshing. I shall look at your blog more carefully. Keep up the good work. It is all too true that some foreign media have raised such a scare that now food imports from Japan are being banned or heavily screened. I still suspect that history of TEPCO and info control by the Japanese govt are also factors, but perhaps I am giving too much credit to the media in assuming they know about Japanese history.
CurtisGayle 11 months ago
Actually, your point is also a good one. There should be the same standard applied to the International media--and many of these outlets get their stuff from NHK World. We are in agreement that too many Gaikokujin just packed up and left. I am an associate professor at Nihon Joshi Daigaku, by the way. I do worry, however, that scapegoating one side plays into the hands of those who say Japan is all on its own.
CurtisGayle 11 months ago
@CurtisGayle This vid was made at the height of the media frenzy. Things are calmer now. However, int'l media continues to exaggerate. Their claims such as "radioactive contamination has spread over much of northern Japan" (3/30 CNN World) is untrue. See links on my blog for proof. By blithely saying this, w/ NO DATA, they now threaten the livelihood of the farmers of N. Japan. China has already refused shipments from even the unaffected areas of Japan. Such is the hysteria. daniel.domos.jp

Daniel, many of my Japanese colleagues left during the early days. This is not just a foreign media problem. I have been here throughout the ordeal. You dont seem to address this issue. Why not? Why also do you seem to believe what the government and TEPCO tell us? Where is your healthy skepticism?
CurtisGayle 11 months ago

Is their anything that they are reporting that is inaccurate because they are saying scary things and even local media has reported of trace amounts of radioactive material from Fukushima
fidel92225 11 months ago
@TheDanielKahl Yes, the media is creating this wave of hysteria and riding it at the same time. But your idea that they care, or will listen to your pleas is misguided.
Worse than that is your plea for us to believe or listen to the government and Tepco. Before the accident they had one standard of safe levels and afterwards they more than doubled the standards of acceptable contamination.
Do you know how to tell they are lying? They are talking, that's how!
Who do you work for?

7890cv 11 months ago

Bensterr23 11 months ago

@TheDanielKahl...No Daniel, your right this is NOT a second Chernobyl...The is the first Fukushima...And IMO, when this is all said and done, it will be FAR worse...Chernobyl Had one reactor with far fewer fuel rods...Do you honestly think that they will prevent a full meltdown?...If so, HOW?...Do you make it a habit to trust what the government of Japan or any government is telling you...Who do you work for?...What do you honestly expect them to say?...The TRUTH?..LOL...Please
killuminatirooster 11 months ago
@killuminatirooster ok we are one month later. so how is this worst then Chernobyl? all apocalyptic, end of the world scenarios didn't come to life. the foreign media particularly US one reported fantasy news as usual not only i the case of Fukushima. During a crisis people need realistic information not Hollywood type of news. nobody is trusting the Japanese government without checking other sources but you should also not trust 100% want is delivered on TV.
vilyaarda 10 months ago
@vilyaarda I DONT watch the television, but thanks for your AMAZING insight..I said NOTHING about an apocalyptic end of the scenario...Did you even read my comment?..Are you even paying attention at all???...You think that the mainstream media is telling you the truth???...Daniel said in his video that this was nowhere near the level of Chernobyl..I disagreed and since I posted that comment they have now reclassified this event to list it at level SEVEN..So, I do NOT really understand your point
killuminatirooster 9 months ago
@killuminatirooster the scale doesn't not measure the similarities between the two cases. Chernobyl and Fukushima keep being two different scenarios like the mars and the earth are different. Just because both are round and planets don't make them identical cases. I lived as a small child Chernobyl and now Fukushima. I can make the difference. not everything is a conspiracy theory.
vilyaarda 9 months ago
I also live now in a city in Japan where most research institutes reside . My university makes independent monitoring of water and radiation in the air as well as several research institutes. the data as mush as we love conspiracy theories are similar with the government release. Many foreigners have access to labs do you think they will be crazy to stay with their families and lie to themselves things are fine?
vilyaarda 9 months ago
@killuminatirooster The scale from 1 to 7 you are speaking about does not measure similarities between the Chernobyl and fukushima. The cases are different same as mars and earth are different albeit both are round and classified as planets. I lived both bot chernobyl and fukushima and in no way the situation are same. Chernobyl case was in a very different political environment and a fully functional nuclear plant.
vilyaarda 9 months ago
Thank you all for your support of Japan. Many volunteers from o'seas are now working side by side with local residents to begin the rebuilding. I hear folks up north really appreciate it.
Some people ask why I made this vid. My goal was to calm things down in the foreign media because their sensationalistic reporting was causing panic in the "foreign community in Japan", often whose sole source of news IS foreign media.
We don't really need any more "manufactured" problems at this point.
