  • Is anyone aware that the Devil is with them in the picture, because they love the devil for freeing their minds...

  • so glad someone finally found this. i remember when this version came out - it will always be my favorite!

  • Thank you!!!!

  • I was looking for a different version of this tune I hear on the oldies radio station occasionally that I can't find on YT. This ain't it :)

  • The Animals / eric burdon still fresh!

  • Jinkies! Up until now, I'd only heard the 3 Dog Night version of this 60's classic tune. Fascinating! THANK YOU very much for posting it! You've MADE my day & my week! :)

  • It's not "his" song - it's a Randy Newman song, also recorded later by Three Dog Night. This version is great, I like the 3 Dog version too. You can like both, y'know...

  • @aalhazzred You can even like all three, Randy Newman, Three Dog Night , and The Animals. In fact, if you actually LIKE a song, that's usually how it works. Some people just comment negatively on just about everything because they have miserable lives and want to bring others down with them. ignore those people. they aren't worth your time.

  • @senorinapiavefiume:

Aren´t such people just called piss-takers in the English language (in German: Verarscher, meaning they´re looking the possession of your ass in general - because they have no own ass to stand on...) ???

  • @aalhazzred Wilson Pickett's version might be the best. Captures the ironic nerdiness of Newman's lyrics while still maintaining a funky cool.

  • From March 1967.

  • check out the dark figure in the background with horns on his head! What for?

  • @2468oldschooltimes Rock and roll is the devil's music! Don't you know nuthin'?

  • @2468oldschooltimes It's just the lighting and/or glare around his hair in the photograph..

  • i did not know the animals did the original..incredible. this band is truly amazing when you consider such diversity in their music. Even Grand Funk railroad used one of their songs!

  • @2468oldschooltimes they may have recorded the first version, but its not actually their song, its written by randy newman

  • still nothing like "Spill The Wine !!...".

  • @sixtiesforever1966

You are wrong. It's just got a different emphasis (on the humour) than the versions you are used to.

  • @sixtiesforever1966 All a question of taste as usual...for me this is the best version by far..

  • @sixtiesforever1966 I like both versions.

  • P.J. Proby's version of this came out at around the same time (in the spring of 1967).

  • WOW!!I too thought 3 Dog Night was the original. Thanks for the posting and the info!!!

  • AFSCMik, I thought so too! It was only when I looked up the song on Wikipedia that I found out.

  • This was billed as "Eric Burdon & The Animals", but it's Eric, 2nd Animals drummer Barry Jenkins, & studio/session players.....

  • I think a good version is by Wolfgang press. The Tom Jones one Sucks.

  • blimey I thought three dog night was the original

  • There was a version of this on an album

called either "Eric Burdon & The Animals"

or "The Animals featuring Eric Burdon".

I can't remember which. It had a white

cover with an Illustration of Eric on the

front, no photo, on the MGM label. The

album included a really good version

of "I Think It's Going To Rain Today".

  • There was a 2nd version of this song too, in France and Japan only.

  • Didn't know till now Eric Burdon recorded this song 3 years before 3 Dog Night!

  • Espectular obra musical. Un ejemplo más de la ineptitud del mundo para dar reconocimiento a la música que adquiere la categoría de arte... Que sobrevivan Eric Burdon y Los Animales!

  • This sounds like the theme song from the monsters

  • hmmm.....i gotta say i like thee dogs night version the best

  • me too !

  • I like Newmans own version.

  • Yeah, Inspector711, I haven't heard that in about 30 years. I hope somebody posts it.

  • oh yes, great song - not became great with Eric ;-(

  • Oh my God! I could have never imagine that thia was a song of the Animals! I heard Tom Jones' version, he is good but this is the original! :)

  • This song is too funny to be true. This is the first time I heard the Animals do it.

  • That wasn't The Animals. It was Eric Burdon...

Randy Newman has written the song for him!

  • Yeah This is Eric in solo recording ... always great , but try Mama Told Me Not To Come with Three Dog Night

  • three dog night made it their own.

  • @Karencorpse the animals had the very first recording of this song

  • Yesssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!

  • The original!!! Love Eric Burdon!!
