  • What's the name of this piece?

  • I'd never heard of this guy before, this video is terrific. Thanks for posting it!

  • WOW. Jimmy and Django are similar to me in one way, which is they both pushed their guitars to the max. It's like they left no stone unturned. It might be comparing apples and oranges, but one thing is clear, they were both amazing. I hadn't heard of Django til I saw Les Paul talk about him in an interview. So of course I had to look him up. Amazing. What a brilliant man! Wow.

  • @welderella Hope you aren't confused... This is jazz guitar virtuoso Stochelo Rosenberg paying tribute to Django Reinhardt, not Django himself.

  • @welderella

    " guitars to the max"

no, I know django did. jimi is my favourite, but he was still evolving (he was only 27), his craft ending TOO early. django died in his 40s

  • "The Godfather Of Shred"

  • wow!!!

  • He is just one of the 7 guitar gods.

  • Seriously, how can some of these licks be played with just 2 fingers? I'm asking because it sounds exactly like the original recording and the 2:00 section requires at least three fingers.

  • @TenTonHorse No 3 figers 2 were injured/paralysed but he could use them on chords he just layed them there

  • @hjejmnse1 I don't mean the chords but those rapid fire licks. How could anyone do them with two fingers when Stochelo in this clip needed at least 3?

  • @TenTonHorse he has 3 fingers 2 are paralyzed

  • @hjejmnse1 and he start to learn guitar when 20 years

  • @hjejmnse1 doesnt look like he is paralyzed...

  • @Criterion1990 "Stochelo Rosenberg playing Django Reinhardt" its in the description :P

  • @TenTonHorse

    he couldn't use 2 fingers,so this leaves 3 fingers to use :)

  • does anybody know what year this was?

  • Oh my.

  • I thought he had only 3 fingers. That's what was told in Black Sabbath bio when Toni talked about loosing his finger tips.

  • i thought he only had 2 fingers

  • I am goofy for spelling Hendrix wrong, but that is not the point!

  • Name of song please?

  • Django picks sweep at 2:41

  • DJANGO fingers were fused together by the fier at 21 yrs of age, is this DJANGO and can you tell by the wedding band ...if or if not, this KAT is a $FREAK$ on the Flamingo AXE...or FLAMENCO AXE you choose..

  • It sucks after 2:58

  • This isn't Django Reinhardt.

  • He nailed it

  • I love it... you can feel so much emotion in this wonderful piece.

  • pas mal mais du tout

  • This is wonderful, so is Django.

  • Maestro de virtuosos

  • He doesn't use a pick. He plays with a hockey disc

  • @wilrock910 Looks like a pick to me, whats a hockey disc?

  • @Ozzie9877 guy must be refering to a puck? lol

  • You gotta give stochelo some credit here

  • mmm...I don't think any "coloured" Django existed (with 5 fingers and no mustache either)

  • 12 people are souless pieces of shit and need to pull their tongue out of djangos ass and realise that this dude has talent.

  • 12 people are deaf

  • of course it is probably a tribute to the master django.. but I wouldn't say this is S.R playing D.R because the poor django couldn't play that sick fast scales because of his lack of fingers....anyway, as someone said, I wouldn't have seen this video if it was'n tagged as Django reinhardt.. 2 year ago, thanks to this video, I discovered stochelo rosenberg and I now totally love his music.. so the title of the video has a very important function LOL XD

  • @LazyHammond91 (no bitterness intended in this post) Its interesting that you say Django couldn't play scales that fast, when actually this is a note for note version of Django's Improvisation(No.1 i believe?). It's crazy right? Playing guitar myself i just cant grasp how you can play some of those things with the limitations he had. Even when its explained i still dont get it haha.

  • @LazyHammond91 hahaha are you kidding? have you listened to django? "poor django couldnt play that sick fast scales" whhhhat? django could play faster than that with only two fingers. Thats whats appealing to him for most listeners and players. c'mon django shredded

  • If it wasn't tagged as Django i would not have seen it.

Beautiful playing, and if you are a guitarist that's what it is all about isn't it !!!!!

    sharing music and experience.

  • HOLD ON , THIS GUY'S GOT 4 FINGERS. WE'VE BEEN DUPED PEOPLE.

  • mislabeled

  • Wonderful!

  • If Django were alive, he would probably be like "what have I done"!

  • @JazzJunkie4

    what do you mean?

  • Makes me want to smash my guitars....

  • Whoever said WTF 55-57 --- Symmetrical diminished chords. Same thing a minor third apart multiple times.

  • @2:04,WTF : /

  • he did it well, django would be proud =D

  • Good..

And now just with 2 fingers ;)

  • :55 - :57

    WTF?!

  • somebody knows whats tabs is he using?

  • @dermord00 HA!

  • Anyone can learn to shred scales up and down, but to play like this you need to be born with a guitar in your hand. That or have it downloaded right into your brain, matrix-style.

  • what the hell is playing?

  • @anormalnick jazz

  • This seriously makes me wanna try and learn this stuff...it seems sooo...difficult

  • @deadnightwarrior44

    it is =D

  • Bravo!!!! Stochelo. Zavru oci, a slysim Djanga. SUPER!!

  • this guy is better than django... haha... man, seriously fucking incredible player.

  • @alcoholya lol this guy? better than django? what are you talking about .. you haven't seen django played with all his fingers yet.. :P x)

  • Perfect

  • Oh, my god~mind-boggling?

  • he was high out of his mind there

  • does anybody know what his guitar tuning too??

it doesn't sound like standard tuning

  • @Mreyes90 I think you hear him strum open strings at the beginning

from 00:11 to 00:19. Sounds standard to me.

  • @bbknux1 yea i noticed when i picked my guitar up.

    thx tho.

    stochelo is something else

  • I like Django,....but you falsely advertised it.

  • Why Is this video called "Django Reinhardt" ? Really...

  • hes using a padded pick which dampens the strings a bit.. to the untrained ear it may sound like nylon..

  • that´s not django, he had 2 fingers only in the left hand

E' Stochelo Rosemberg.

  • non ci sono paragoni

  • awesome

  • The bass strings of a guitar with nylon strings are wounded with steel. However this is a steel stringed guitar, Django always used very light steel strings.

  • listen to the bass wen he hits the bottom e, steel

  • What kind of guitar is that? Nylon string? I'd think it'd be hard to play that fast with steel strings..

  • they cant be nylon :PLOL has to be steel... and yea they can play real fast think about it how do metal bands play fast LOL .... nylons would break too fast for that.... and plus he's using a pick.. but yea this is real good vid :P

  • @doh11 why would you put steel strings on a classical guitar? I'm saying it is nylon, it sounds like it. You definately can play fast on nylon, alot of classical is faster than metal, and puts even more force on the strings.

  • lol there are 2 different types of classic guitars ... one has nylons and the other has steel strings.. now hes using a pick and the picks are mainly used on steel strings thats why i said its steel... but i could be wrong with the whole thing lol i cant really see from the video

  • The quality isn't the greatest but it has more of a steel sound to me

  • That's gypsy jazz guitar selmer macaffery. Mostly gypsy jazz guitar they have slotted headstock like classical guitar and the fretboard little bit bigger than steel string guitar, almost like classical but they use steel core silverplated copper wound string. I have one in the house.

  • @SkyShaw It´s not nylon -it´s steelcored strings wound with silverplated copper, and it´s not a classical guitar, it´s a Selmer. Stochelo plays the # 504, sister to the famous # 503 that belonged to Django. He uses a Wegen pick.

  • definitely nylon strings.

  • it's gypsy jazz guitar use steel core silverplated copper wound string. They sound different with flattop steel string guitar because they use different string, different body size and different bracing. Gypsy jazz guitar the top and the back side little bit arch but not like archtop guitar. just google gypsy jazz guitar.

  • you may be right but it sounds an awful lot like nylon. i am no expert on gypsy guitars tho..

  • you know first time I got mine I feel regret too just want to sell it. because I use to hear flattop steel string guitar but after I play it quite sometime I start to love it. Just feel different with my other guitars. Sound like nylon string because it use silverplated copper string like classical guitar, but gypsy jazz guitar mostly use steel core and classical use silk core.

  • @FuckinMetalBitchs ahah I love your nickname

  • @FuckinMetalBitchs It`s not nylon strings - they´re Savarez " Argentines " -a steel core wound with silverplated copper

  • ese no es Django

  • nono, die though. even.

  • supremo!

  • the sond very close to django.....

  • so this means he isn't django is he ...?

  • Isn´t

  • he had 5 fingers, but two of them were partially immobile after a fire or something like that.

  • @googlekopfkind THE GUY PLAYING HERE ISN'T DJANGO REINHARDT--IT'S SOMEONE NAMED STOCHELO ROSENBERG PLAYING DJANGO REINHARDT'S MUSIC. THAT'S WHY THE GUY IN THIS CLIP HAS ALL 5 FINGERS INTACT--BECAUSE THIS ISN'T DJANGO!

  • oh..

  • googlekopfkind:

There are a few clips of Django himself on here, though. The best of the three I found is titled "Django Reinhardt - J'attendrai Swing 1939". The others are titled "Django Reinhardt Clip 1945" and "Django Reinhardt - Swing Night (Hague, 1937). These two appear to be the same clip, but of differing length and quality.

  • @knovinski IT'S IMPROVISATION ON DJANGO CAN YOU READ RETARD?

  • @Jigov Yeah, dick, I can read. I was reading, in fact, when I saw the grafitti your mother left in a public toilet offering her pussy to anyone who wants it. Now as for what I wrote here on YouTube--the message that prompted your gratuitous rudeness--I was informing someone who thought this was Django Reinhardt that it is, in fact, someone else playing Django Reinhardt's music. If anyone is a retard in need of reading lessons here, it's you.

  • @knovinski Is there a fire? Why are you shouting?

  • @knovinski "someone named Stochelo Rosenberg" haha no big deal (=

  • @Kalestilez Don't misunderstand me. I'm not making a big deal out of anything. I didn't use capital letters because I was angry but to make sure people saw the comment so there wouldn't be so many people on here wondering why Django has all five fingers in this clip. They don't know that it isn't Django in this clip and I was trying to clear it up for them.

  • Comment removed

  • @knovinski plus django never played with a goddamn pick

  • Comment removed

  • @knovinski This video is in color... that should be your first hint

  • @NicholasGreen91 I don't know if your comment's directed at me or at someone else. If it's directed at me, it isn't necessary because I've always known this isn't Django Reinhardt in this clip. As a matter of fact, if you read the comment I addressed to googlekopfkind, you'll see that I'm telling him it isn't Django Reinhardt, it's someone named Stochelo Rosenberg. I also point out that the guy in the clip has all of his fingers. So save your condescension for someone who deserves it.

  • because he is not Django Reinhardt but Stochelo Rosenberg as it says....! check the info section first :P and please don't take it the bad way...! :P i don't try to make you look like a fool...! i just give you a hint :P ( sorry for my probably bad english ) :P

  • Its not Django!!!!! Its Stochello Rosenberg playing Django!!!! God! Read the discription for Pete's sake!

  • he is stochelo rosenberg XD

  • Can someone tell me what type of guitar that is? I want to buy one, Are the strings made of iron? Appreciate any response.

    Thanks

  • accoustic jazz guitar

  • Selmer. They are real expensive because they are only made by luthiers these days. Unless you want to a Stagg-made hehe.

    Cherio

  • It just makes you appreciatre how amazing Django was to have been able to play this with only 2 fingers on his left hand.

  • Damn Shit Fuck I love it!!!!!!!! YEEEEHAAAAWW

  • What the Fuck you takin' 'bout willis?

  • non è django

  • man!, i let to know from what video is this!!! i want to see the complete performance, not only a fragment!!!, please press repply and asnwer me to know and download all the videos from this presentation!!, press repply for you tube send to me a mail and i will can see your answer, thanks!

  • Really, practically ANYTHING by Stochelo Rosenberg / the Rosenberg Trio is incredible, so just search youtube for either of those names and you should find satisfaction!

  • Thats not Django Reinhardt , thats Stochelo Rosenberg !!!

  • One only has to look at his left hand to know that it is not Django.

  • Fantastic

  • PLEASE !!!! anybody know where i can get tabs for this? or buy tabs for this?

  • Stochelo Rosenberg playing, not Django

  • aren't we a clever one - it says that under info you donut!

  • People who don't read the infos are perhaps donuts look beside my coment : some guys think that the man filmed is Django, I tell them he's Stochelo. Got it ?

    thx for your attention.

PS : I'm not edible but if you're a beautiful woman, we can discuss about :) have a nice day and by the way, you should have a little more respect for your peers.

  • nice

  • Sicuramente uno dei chitarristi più vicini allo stile del grande DJANGO.

  • this guy is amazing, go djano! ur a guitar legend

  • Simply the best.

  • could he possibly be the best of all time?

  • a loving expression of the humn spirit.

  • Great guitar playing. A tip to the hat.

For more remarkable jazz, please feel free to check out my blog (for link see my profile). Hope to meet you there.

    All best,

    Brew Lite

  • the name of this song rosenberg is performing is 'improvisation'

  • improvisation #1

  • rofl

    almost untouchable XD

had too much time for practice :D

horrible vibrato though. but only point to really complain, and vibrato wasnt really used back then.:D

  • the vibrato is probably because of the hard strings, which are not very easy to bend.

but you call me a noob?

you think you know more or what? i guess YOU are the noob.

    stupid fag.

  • actually the strings are pretty light , compared to flattop acoustics.. anyway this video is funny... i originally made this actual clip 10 yrs ago and now it ends up all over the internet hahaha

  • strings are lighter but that kind of guitar has a powerful sound !

nice video and thx for sharing !

  • I have the actual recording of Django playing this. Anyone think I should post this?

  • I think!

  • Posted!

  • Yes you should.

  • Okay.

  • wunderbar und großartig !

  • Great post!! Thanks ;)

  • omg

    my ears just orgasmed!

  • 5 stars! Awesome!Bravo Stochelo!

  • jimi hendrix? jimi... who???

  • Jimi was also a genius but in a different style.

That 's just stupid to comparate guitarists.

That guy revolutionized the way to play electric guitar.

Just listen Django on Electric, not the same feeling, and i'm a big a fan of him.

  • @silbaar Please don't compare Jimi to Django. They were both 2 COMPLETELY different types of guitarist. Just don't go there.

  • @hipyaboyya Ironically, both Jimi and Django possessed the same quality that made both of them great. They put expression and melody at the forefront of their playing. Not once does it descend into mindless noodling - the melody always remains central even when soloing.

  • @hipyaboyya Have to be goofy to compare Hendricks with Reinhardt.

  • @pattietatoo also have to be goofy to spell hendrix hendriks.

  • WOW.......!

  • My God, I love this.

  • As much as i love this video, part of me does keep saying "Yeah but you have five fingers."

Still, I probly would have trouble playing it with 10.

In any case, love rosenberg, love django more and the vid is fantastic

  • the 3rd and 4th fingers of his hand such as his right leg were paralyzed due to a fire when he was 18. He learn this playing way after painfull practice

  • it starts to get good at 30 sec.

  • Stochelo is great, but remember that Django was playing a shitty Maccaferri, whose action (the distance from string to fretboard) was absurdly high. This made it much more difficult for him to produce clean notes. Anyway, hats off to the Rosenbergs for keeping the Reinhardts' sound alive.

  • compared to Reinhardt this guy isn't that good, Reinhardt played it with only two fingers.

  • Compared to just about anyone, including Django, Stochelo is pretty much good enough, and that's an understatement.

  • Stochello is faster and a really technical prodigy, but I think Dajngo was something more and Im talkin about magic, emotion, feelin,... and he was who invented this style.

  • He is faster cause he has five fingers ;)

Imagine Django with five fingers !!!!

But trust me Stochelo, Bireli, all of them never thiok to comparate themselves to django.

For a gypsy guitarist Django is god (and i think they are right ;) )
