Sad case of cultural misappropriation. The sampled melody is called “Rorogwela” sung by Afunakwa, a Solomon Islands woman, recorded by ethnomusicologist Hugo Zemp. Originally released by UNESCO. Deep Forest’s subsequent claim that the track had UNESCO’s approval was found to be invalid. Deep Forest had gone ahead and used the track without Afunakwa's consent. BTW Solomon Islanders are not a Pigmy race of people from Africa. They are part of the islands of Melanesia in the South Pacific ocean.
I absolutely this song and watching the beadwork on the tribal outfits. You just know how many painstaking hours of beading it took to make just one bracelet, bag, skirt or blanket. Thanks for uploading this version :-)
I made that first comment before I even watched the video, because I'd already heard the song and saw your comment to NeutralSincere. >.> Now after watching the video....it was beautiful. Really great job. *glares angrily at lack of love button*

her earring looks like the Eiffel tower! i just noticed.
could this be a subtle reference to Deep Forest's french origins?

what never fails to suprise me is how the most beautiful songs end up having a sad message once you understand the lyrics.
I used to meditate to this song all the time
It is part of my definition of the 90s.

I would love an English translation of this. Thanks so much for uploading.

@NeutralSincere Wikipedia says: "The lyrics refer to a young orphan being comforted by his older brother despite the loss of their parents."
It was sung by an inhabitant of the Solomon Islands.
I found this translation, though it is very sad:
==================================
Young brother, young brother you be quiet
Although you are crying to me
Your father has left us
He has gone to the place of the dead
Protect the head of the living, Protect the orphan child

@NeutralSincere Little brother, little brother, stop crying, stop crying
Though you are crying and crying, who else will carry you
Who else will groom you, both of us are now orphans
From the island of the dead, their spirit will continue to look after us
Just like royalty, taken care of with all the wisdom of such a place

@NeutralSincere
Little brother, little brother even in the gardens
This lullaby continues to the different divisions of the garden,
From the island of the dead, their spirit will continue to look after us
