  • too bad no one was shouting Brain Check! Brain Check, we the 99% who believe in religion accuse you psycho woman, of your culpability in the mass murder of people who try to oppress religion (and practice slavery) through marxism, revolutionary ideology... ect ect ect.

  • @1czechit1 I dont think there is anything in the actual Marxist ideology that justifies the brutality, suppression and facism perpetrated by the Chinese Communist Party and other regimes. In fact many Marxists outside these countries criticize these regimes. The Abrahamic doctrines on the hand seem to very explicitly endorse genocide, slavery etc which is why she would perceive them to be inherently bad. And is she even Marxist?

  • the same can be said about politics, especially revolutionary ideology, especially when talking about mass murder (Fascism and Communism, Marxism, anarchism) and so on.

  • Intelligent AND attractive. Rawr.

  • Sunsara you're wrong about religion's origin. I appreciate your revolt against the far right in America, but you gotta do your homework about where religions REALLY come from- forget the materialistic/scientific demon possesion =epilepsy fit, peyote, mushroom visons, zeitgeist, undiluted marxism,etc...'folklore and bibles' contain more truth than you could imagine. go research Ufology, the occult and the paranormal - if you believe that science has explained religion, think again.

  • That's not God's fault or eve spirituality's fault, it's Humans who make choices and misuse organized religion in order to gain power and oppress others -it's like drugs or alcohol or guns - it's the use and purpose you ascribe to it that defines it, not the thing itself.

  • @MrAlienlovechild

", I can’t help but seeing his view of human nature as deterministically negative"

when i hear hedges i see a rare man who understands both sides and how the world works, but i to see him as a permanent pessimist

i cant miss to notice that this might be because of his christian heritage which says "no one can save us but god, we are doomed without him" , since hedges does not believe in a god, i think his pessimism is a natural consequence of taht.

    or he is right

  • she is a crazy liberal wack job, but god damn smoking hott!

  • @scrambledpenis Actually, everything she says makes quite a lot of sense to me, and I'm not crazy. I'm sure many others would agree with me. However, I defer to your latter statement.... she is quite attractive for sure.

  • @utarian7 well you have your way of life i have mine. however we can share our love for attractive women!

  • BRAVO!

  • @LogicalFlawDetector and a sexist too I'm guessing

  • @ 7:28: Why would the evil, bloodthirsty Christians write in a story many years after Jesus' death that contradicts their misogynist views? It doesn't make sense. Notice in all the New Teestament accounts that the women were the first to see the risen Jesus. In the first century women had no legal power as witnesses in a court of law. But it is to the women that Jesus first appears. If the story is false, why did the Bible authors choose women to be the first witnesses?

  • @quemacha The bible has constant been abridged throughout the years because, frankly, the masses dissent as their minds evolve. That's why it's called "Reactionary" and "Conservatism". "You shall not covet" is an amendment (shortening) of the original commandment: "You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or male or female SLAVE, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor." Note it doesn't proscribe slavery itself, but merely coveting

  • How could someone so evil be so attractive?

  • @DarthConnis9999 Either she's not evil, or she sold her soul to the devil in return for good looks.

  • maoist scum

  • LOL did she not hear what Hedges said at all??

  • Does Taylor want to eliminate the spirituality of indigenous peoples (Wicca, Shamanism, Dreamtime, Spirit Quests, Sweat Lodges,)? If so, is that not a form of - gasp - IMPERIALISM? Instead of white Christians, the new imperialists are white Atheists.

  • @TFarache Ummm no.

  • @TFarache How exactly is it imperialism? Natural religions are still religions like christianity or islam. They simply stayed close to the original purpose of religions to explain natural phenomenon, phenomenon who have been explained by science already, thus making these believes obsolete and making believing them foolish.

  • @cecasander

It seems like imperialism because most indigenous people don't want outsiders telling them that their traditions are foolish.

  • i agree religion sucks, but still - **LOL COMMIES**

  • /facepalm

  • ^stickass

  • actually women are over 2/3 of humanity

  • I think Mrs. Taylor needs to get stoned. If she doesn't take it easy she is gonna get a ulcer. legalize it!!!

  • Why are all of these women getting stoned? SO if you are not a virgin you can get stoned? I get stoned all of the time and I am a virgin because I am sooooo fat.

  • Not all atheists can be geniuses.

  • God God Sunsara! This chick is a cliche spouting machine! As an atheist I'm officially embarassed by her! Where are Chomsky and Dawkins when you need them??

  • Ok, so who wants to tell Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori that all religion has to be banned in order for women to have equality?

Maybe its me.... but is it close-minded to make sweeping declarations calling for the undoing of some other groups when some of the groups to be undone are already reaching the equality Sunsara Taylor claims she is doing this to promote?

  • "Atheism leads a man to sense, to philosophy, to natural piety, to laws, to reputation: all of which may be guides to an outward moral virtue...""What you should say to outsiders is that a Christian has neither more nor less rights in our Association than an atheist. When our platform becomes too narrow for people of all creeds and of no creeds, I myself shall not stand upon it." Susan B. Anthony

  • ps;

afghanistan was invaded by your hero seclualr/athiest world wide alligence and thus plunged that once near stable country into the damned land that it is now. also your scandanavian arguement is pretty, for example 72% of the swedish people attend church, the rest went to either mosques or where of other faiths if you ask me thats a pretty high number for a country you allege "athiest".

baring such misinformation im not suprised you're against religion . no offense though :)

  • Ummm, no they do not. They are born and documented in the church. And 73% do not attend church. You really need to check your facts. Nothing of what you claim is even close to accurate.

  • Religion is a negative attribute for it offers new bigotry and indifference which would not exist if it were not for religion. Both sides have bad people but religion opens you up to a whole new range of intolerance. The fact that it is a group of people claiming the moral high ground and disregarding the views and opinions of others simply because they differ from there own..

  • If one makes a claim about the existence of a certain entity, then that individual or group of individuals must carry the burden of proof. Just because you can't disprove the existence of ghosts, aliens, or Bigfoot doesn't mean they exist. Until adequate evidence is provided, the logical position to take is one of disbelief.

  • 72% of swedes attend church? LOL are you kidding me, where do you pull these numbers out of your ass? no country in the world has a number like that, do you realize how many people it would be if for example 50% of America went to church this very sunday, there are not enough churches for that and sweden is 81% atheist/agnostic that is a fact look it up, NOBODY goes to church in sweden ..same shit is starting to happen in Europe and it's happening slowly here in America ..actually not so slowly.

  • its actully true jackass, 75.% of swedes doo belong to a church, i know it hurts you to hear it but the figures never lie, their society might be secular but that still dosnt make them athiest folls like you :)

if you can read swedish i suggest you go see it foryourself you rude minded moron,Svenska Kyrkan Statistiek pagina Medlemmar 1972-2008

  • The Lutheran Church of Sweden is the official religion in Sweden. People are registered at birth and it is a difficult and pointless exercise in red tape to deregister. Robbaress is completely right, several studies cite numbers upwards of 80% atheist/agnostic in Sweden, and percentage of the population in pews any given Sunday is in the single digits.

  • as regards 2 the other argument you made regarding muslim nations such as palestine let me inform your uninformed mind that palestine before the arival of athiestic zionist jews (yes they do exsist) came to the holy lands there was no such thing as bombings and daily vice, it was after athiest nations such as britain and the us got involved that we saw massive evil and harm

if i was you i would check my facts before i go on a rant against religion and God,it kinda makes ur arguement redundant

  • What are you talking about here? wow, are you kidding me. The "atheistic Zionist Jews", at least I think that is what you are trying to spell. Do you even know what Zionism is? It is as religious as it gets. Where in the world to you get this stuff?

  • This is awesome, this girl rocks! =)

  • she judges God on what christians and christianity has done throughout history, classic athiest tactic.

  • ... well yeah, I thought Christians were guided by the word of god.

  • they would be had they not currupted their own book with the false and greedy claims of their priests.

why dont you go check for youself, i sure did.

  • Religion is the method whereby humans can rationalize their awful behavior to other humans and pawn it off as good deeds. The last time religion ruled the western world, the result was the Dark Ages. For a thousand years we allowed magical thinking to retard the advancement of knowledge, and the progress of humanity.

Ignorance and superstition lurk at the fringes of our society. "Men never commit evil so fully and joyfully as when they do it for religious convictions"

    -- Blaise Pascal

  • maybe you and blaise pascal have never heard of the islamic golden age of andalusia (islamic spain), in a time where ALL if not most of europe languished in the christian dark ages the muslims thrived in religion and science, they re-wrote and corrected many scientific methods and invented new ones, under their rule knowledge wasnt supressed rather encourage as islam recomends.

so before you prance around condemning all religion to the garbage heep of history please be educated frist.

  • Good people do good things most of the time.

Bad people do bad things most of the time.

But it takes religion to make a good person do bad things.

Look at the violent nations like Palestine, Afghanistan, Somalia or Haiti. All are poor, violent, and 100% religious.

Think about the most educated, safest nations on earth: Canada, Japan, Scandinavia, New Zealand, etc. All are not only moderate in their religion, but largely non-religious.

  • oh really? it takes religion for someone to do something evil?

ok lets see, was lenin a religious man? was china's ATHIEST mao a religious man? i think not.

i dont know which religion you're reffering to but mine certainly dosnt tell me to any anything "bad" to anyone else. also budhism (although i dont agree with alot of its tradision) dosnt call for violence.

so your claim that "religion=evil" is fallacious to say least.

  • I never said religion=evil

I did say bad people do bad things, religious or not.

The USSR, PRC, and North Korea were led by dictatorships where the removal of god is not based around atheistic ideas but around control. the leaders replaced a deity with themselves to show that they had complete power. it is the oldest form of control in the book

  • look at the kings and queens of England back in the middle ages, they pulled a similar trick. They were not gods themselves but they were right below god and chosen by god. This was basically the same thing, one of them even rewrote the bible when it did not suit him.

  • So true, thanks for that:) I fail to see how a society that worships its leader is not religious. Were the Egyptians that considered the Pharaoh divine not religious in that context? I fail to see how employing the divine right of kings is secular or atheistic.

  • Its not secular or atheist, but it is also "the oldest form of control in the book". as well at least the USSR and North Korea(I don't know enough about china to comment) did not get rid of religion so to speak, they just replaced the god. In these countries the dear leader becomes the deities to be worshiped, just like you said. as well In north Korea, Kim is not actually the head of state, his dead father is, ruling form beyond the grave.

  • You keep using all this logical thinking and I am going to have to add you to friends list;)

  • She's "somewhere over the rainbow...."

  • Oh, the words coming from her mouth are soooo misguided....htuom reh sdrawot "elissim" ym ediug ot ekil d'I ,revewoh

  • Ugh, this lady needs to read some freaking Durkheim before opens her mouth again.

  • The greatest enemy of religion is knowledge.

  • What do Atheist know about morality? animals and machines know nothing about morality!

  • What do Theists know of morality? Theists draw all "morality" from the mandates and examples of an infinitely brutal, murderous psychotic, i,e, god.

  • Only in atheism does the spring rise higher than the source, the effect exist without a cause, life come from from a stone, blood from a turnip, a silk purse from a sow's ear, a Beethoven symphony or a Bach Fugue from a kitten walking across the keys. By Jame M. Gillis

  • what happens is people begin to take religion as reality as the ONLY way for the world to live life. Religion keeps people hopeful but it is false hope no good can come from just hoping your entire life and not do something about it. think a little more about the role of the church in every day life. "OPIUM OF THE PEOPLE"

  • Its assinine to refer to religious texts as 'fairy tales'. One needs to make as distinction between myth and fairy tales. Religious texts are myth, philosophy and history interwoven. I wouldn't say reading myth is without value. Existential religious faith is not the samething as belief in Santa Claus.

I brought up liberation theology simply to illustrate an example that religion need not be at odds with a socialism.

Dismissing religious as mere ignorance is an ignorant oversimplification.

  • What about liberation theology? What about the Christian church being the largest charitable organization in the world? And what about common faith bringing together black slaves and whites in the underground railroad?

  • That's right!! women should submit to their husbands and/or current partner, stay home and prepare dinner, bake cookies and cheesecakes, and manage the home.

damn, when will the good old days come back..?

  • she's kinda cute. anybody know how old she is?

  • What group has championed the rights of women and minorities more than the Jewish people? Are you going to tell me their religion has nothing to do with it?

  • I like this girl. I've never heard of her before. She seems like a great voice for atheism.

  • and maoist communism

  • I think she already is XD

  • GREAT points and makes sense, too.

  • I'm sorry but she is totally wrong about Jesus. He did renounce the Mosiac Law."I have come to do away eith the law"... And as far as the story about stoning the girl... he taught those people to have compasion and forgive just as they had been forgiven. Too bad Sunsara is blinded by her own agenda. She can't even see that Jesus choose to die for her because he loves her. She's right...it's not about religion. It's about a relationship with God. God Bless you all who read this!

  • He said that "every jot" of the Old Testament should be followed. If what you say is true, then it looks like the Buybull contradicts itself!

  • Are you referring to Matthew 5:18? Read the rest of the verse, "...till all be fulfilled." Jesus fulfilled the law with His death and resurrection.

  • I want to marry that woman!! She is so hot!

  • Unfortunately, you have to play on 'mature' terms. And should it require heightening the diction, so be it. The "hip-hop" generation appeal only serves to undermine a cause, I feel. But to avoid misunderstanding, Sunsara's rhetoric is very accessible. "Real" is unprofessional. But 'thank your stars' she isn't the socialist Buckley.

  • I don't mean simply appealing to hip hopisms to get the point across. I mean showing emotion. It is precisely the lack of humanity in her approach that made Bill O'Reilly look like a reasonable person when she went on his show! Someone like Jeremy Glick was far better suited to put O'Reilly in his place, precisely because he didn't try to play on O'Reilly's "formal" level. Maturity has nothing to do with it.

  • O'Reilly has never occured to me as a resonable person, and it's precisely because he shouts instead of arguing like an adult. Socialism, by the buy, and to its disdain, has been characterized as an empty and poignant display. A simple reading of a well-stuctured essay/speech is all an exchange calls for. This wasn't a rally; there's was no reason to shout.

  • That's a pretty puerile argument. Was there a response from Hedges?
