  • yo nice cover, u helped me learn the tune too thanx

  • you did a great cover there..and listen something from me..never take serious what other s says.people many times are jealous and many times they dont have personal life and they like ruin something that another person did with a lot of work..you rock and this is how things are.stay metal man ;)greetings from Greece :D :)

  • Dude. Fuckin badass!!!!

  • This riff is a total mind f**k, i still have a hard time playing this

  • What settings do you use with the Marshall? I use the same amp and I can't find that "Adam's tone"! Good cover dude.

  • Sounded amazing dude. Maybe ease-up on the echo during the individual note sections. Great job overall though.

  • I think you did an excellent job !

  • dude...........u Rule

  • @lizpunkzz Adam Jones plays a specific type of Gibson Les Pauls which have a metallic paint finish, adding to his particular sound. These were discontinued later because people complained about changes in tone.

Your tone sounds great though! Good cover :) Spiral out, keep going!

  • Good job man? What's your settings on your Marshall mg amp for this cover?

  • Ima be making a video for this too!

  • I<3u

  • Tool's sound is impossible nail, but don't worry about that you played the song quite well. A little too metal sounding to my ears, maybe a little less gain and treble in my humble opinion, but it is in the ballpark i think, better than most. Adams rig it pretty unique, and the recording of this album is hard to create a unified sound as mixes change through the song. I I posted a vid of this song as well trying to capture the album sound, let me know what ya think.

  • @hyxr

I no what you mean. In the intro and all other parts of the song that relate to the intro I use the 10th, 12th and 15th frets on the D string. I have to say though, Browbear96 gets a good sound out of the way he plays it.

  • @thesniper0423 and why do you think so?

  • @BrownBear96 it may be just in the beggining that one of the notes is just off or out of tune but otherwise awesome for figuring out bye ear

  • @BrownBear96 Haha your trying to play a tool song along with the guitarist lmao

  • @thesniper0423 fail? you play it then

  • what is the tabs? just kidding lolol that was amazing. I'm going to start learning this.

  • my bro has the same shirt :)

  • Cool.

  • hey,könntest du das Lied the pot covern? das is einer meiner Lieblingslieder

  • WHAT A TROOPAH

  • where'd you get your shirt?!

  • THANKS!!!

  • Well I am officially gonna STOP playing that song on guitar for my buddies, just in case any of them have watched this video...I thought I played a pretty rippin cover, but I guess I really DO SUCK...UNREAL tone man...Great muting...Killer finish...I learned tons just watching you...

DONT BE H8'IN PEOPLE, This guy rocks!!!

  • the intro riff(s) can be a bitch to learn, but you got perfectly. nice job

  • i want that t-shirt btw nice playing :D

  • whats the tuning?

  • @BeQuietAndDrive91

The bottom E is dropped to a D, as with almost all Tool songs

  • HOLY CRAP DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have that exact same shirt and it has some weird tool art thing on the back

  • Omg this guy is the only guy who play like me at 6:36! So glad I'm not alone with it =)

  • brilliant work!very impressive indeed.that was an accurate cover, something several other covers were lacking.tool bass is taken on a different level by justin chancellor, which leads to many mixing up the bass for the guitar.but its easy to understand the difference between the two if one has been following tool well enough.great job on the cover dude.hats off to you.

  • If you want to play guitar like a pro, download my free, information packed ebook at my site tyreus dot net

  • there is a way more easy way to play the intro exactly the same as u do

  • great cover of this song man :D do u have the tabs?? :D

  • Very good tone and very good cover

  • I like it dude. Good cover

  • sweet dude this song is awesome ives been looking for it and the tabs

  • NIIIIIIIIIICE on the ending

  • drop d, yes?

  • that was AMAZING!

  • Love your taste in music ;)

-and the covers was pretty good too :D

  • The song is difficult and sound is one of the most destructive of the history of rock (god knows what Adam does to get it...I know it too, but it's not that simple)...

Anyway, you did a great job.

Maybe, if you wan't an advice, try to pull out some gain.

    ;)

BTW, big part of his sound comes from JBs and Gibson. ;)

    5 stars!

  • the silverburst les paul he uses has a special tone that you cannot find anywhere else.

  • good cover, as you mentioned the sound is difficult to replicate. A tip is to lower the gain, and higher the mid - Adam runs his eqalizer all the time with the mid way up (pedal)

  • Same shirt!! haha YUSs

  • fuckin good job!!! perfect!!

  • i want your shirt! cool cover =) tool rocks!!!!!!!!!

  • Just can't get my fuckin head around the fact that 4:03 is a BASS SOLO!!!

  • @scihizium I dont think it is. It has Adams distortion and tone, and it seems just an octave to high for bass. I think he just played the rhythm there. I could be wrong though

  • Comment removed

  • 4:03 is a bass solo

  • Sick shirt, I like that one

  • I play guitar. it is guitar in the begininig of prison sex. and jambi. but in the begininng of the pot it is bass

  • Very good cover. Good job, 5 stars

  • jambi is the guitar mostly in the begining? its all riffs.

  • let's be serious ladies.

The guitar and bass both start at the beginning and play in harmony, anyone who says otherwise is retarded.

  • actually not quite, the bassline is much different. the song Jambi may be what you're thinking of.

  • i will agree with Jambi. But in prison sex there is just no way it's bass. they do not come in together. It is guitar in the intro, bass comes in afterward. I know all you little tool fanatics are used to hearing bass that sounds like a guitar ( which it absolutely does in some cases ) but not in prison sex. it is strictly guitar in the beginning.

  • watch any live video anyway.

  • oh, I thought we were talking about vicarious, my bad.

  • You're right! The bassline is considerably different, but it does harmonize with the guitar line. The point is, they are both playing lol I have seen this song live twice and they do both play.

  • *in Vicarious at least.. I don't know about Jambi or Prison Sex lol

  • ever seen this song live? seen them playing together the whole time? no you haven't stfu.

  • 0_o wow...good stuff

  • whats the tuning for this song?

  • Drop D (DADGBE)

  • all of tool as far as i know is in drop d

  • Prison sex drop b BADGBE

  • unless they actually said that in an interview i think you're wrong. its actually the bass that comes in first in the beginning, it just has distortion, and remains dominant throughout the song. if you listen to the song you can hear the guitar come in later and it is definitely not in drop b. its just that the lead part is played on bass in most of this song as opposed to guitar.

  • Nah son, I play bass too and I am aware of how to play that song. If you open your ears a little more you can hear the bass playing underneath the guitar. It comes in at 0:25 in the actual song.

  • no, that is when the guitar comes in. do you really think they would just have the guitarist go up an octave after the intro instead of having the bass just do the intro? and that is actually how i know that the part is played by the bass; the guitar comes in over it every time.

  • I'm trying to see your viewpoint, but I can't seem to shove my head that far up my ass.

  • its not about seeing my viewpoint. and as far as shoving your head up your ass, it obviously already is because you are actually taking the time to argue this out on youtube and follow through until i say i'm wrong. i'm not replying again, this is stupid, in other words.

  • you are also taking your time to do this! and since you haven't proved you're point, I'm glad you realize the bass is not playing the intro. Have a fantastic day :D

  • they both play the intro

watch a live video or something

  • Once again, if you open up your ears, not only can you hear the bass underneath it, but the tone of the GUITAR part is no where near what the bass could pull off even with distortion. Plus unless you altered the tuning of the bass, it would be extremely uncomfortable to play. but overall, its about opening up you're ears and listening to it. you can clearly hear it's guitar. don't be "that guy"

  • except that the bass that you say "comes in" at 25 has the exact same tone as that in the intro, and maintains this tone throughout most of the song while the guitar is playing over it. i'm not gonna keep going back and forth though, cuz honestly thats just a waste of both our time. and if that is the guitar, then where is the bass in the rest of the song? because the intro bass is in for the rest of the song?

  • for christ sakes dude i said it a million times lol, the bass is there open your ears it is not using any distortion. it's playing something similar to the guitar part but an octave lower. you are hearing two guitar parts and assigning one to be the bass. they are both guitar and the bass is underneath them.

  • and by the way, just because there is one guitarist doesnt mean they can't lay down two guitar tracks. The second guitar comes in at 0:25 along with the bass.

  • you'd be surprised when it comes to tool, Justin has a bass that the company used the wrong wood for, it makes it sound much more like a guitar than a bass.

  • I'm aware of tool using bass as a lead instrument often in their songs, but just because it's a tool song doesn't mean it's bass lol.

  • just watch a bass cover or something

  • nice played, and a very good looking guitar you got there:D what kind of guitar is it?

  • Dude, you're awesome. I love this song, and you did it almost perfectly. I don't really see why you didnt do the solo in the middle, cause that's one of the easiest parts of the song, but that's just my opinion. Awesome man!

  • The "Solo" in the middle is done by the Bass xD

  • @BrownBear96

I think he means the solo at 4:03... :P

Awesome cover (could involve the riff at 4:03, but was cool though) :)

  • @invaderharpie2112 im a bassist and not a guitaris, so i find your coment very insulting. IT IS SO EASY TO HEAR THAT IT IS A BASS SOLO.

  • @EbonfrothCovers Alright. I'm sorry if I offended you in any way, and I play drums, bass and guitar, and it sounded to me like a guitar solo, as it had the same general tone and effect on it as guitars tend to. A thousand apologies for the insulted bass player.

  • @invaderharpie2112 its alright m8, just know this, i bet you you don't pick on the bass. cuz if you did, you'd hear how that is a bass solo

  • @EbonfrothCovers I do pick on the bass. But I saw this video right when I first got into Tool, and I didn't know how much of their stuff Justin Chancellor was playing on the bass. My bad there.

  • @invaderharpie2112 epic fail.

  • Is this the hardest cover you have done yet??

  • i have watched it again since yur comments, but i still stand by my original comments. good riffs, no doubt he is playin it, (this is a close up!), daffy reference lol. i seen TOOL on july 24th in SA Tx., they played this song and you can hear the Whole band not just Adam. if you really listen to this vid, u can hear drums, Maynerd a few times over the guitar, really, listen. not dissen, just needs a little more attention given to the song, thats all. IMHO.

  • Ok, its your opinion. But I think the guitar sound and its mix with the original is sufficient. If you want to listen to Danny Careys incredible drum parts you have to listen to the song :P

  • anyone know what time the intro riff thing is in?

i have the notes, i just can't get the timing

  • Its something about 110 BpM. If it helps ;-)

Or do you mean the beat? Its 5/4. If you want so...

  • If only I had an eletric guitar...

  • yo its good bro how do u palm mute the notes in the intro im having trouble with thtat.

  • i love that end riff it pretty sick

  • good shit bud you do tool justice with this cover. especialy for a youngster

  • Undoubtly the best guitar cover of this song I've heard on YT! Great work, man! I hit the 'Subscribe' button! :)

  • Solo is really easy, man. All it is is the A String 5th fret, slide over to 6th, slide to 15th, slide to 13th then repeat then hit the 17th fret and slide.

  • yes your right but you also need a wah to make it sound just right. not to mention really good at tremolo picking.

  • The Solo is done on the Bass -.-

  • nice riffs, but it IS a band not just Adam, i understand u wanna show yur skills, a little more editing, or sound manipulation, or whatever it is called. gotta let all the band members in dude. nice cover though, Adam would be impressed.

  • Sorry, really dont know what you mean xD But I plan to make a Drum Cover of this Song and put it together with the guitar, if you meant that...

And maybe also a bass if I can get one. But dont expect that I sing :D

  • dude, this is a GUITAR COVER

    it features the guitar part

you should be able to hear the guitar over everything in this instance. if his guitar was perfectly mixed at the same level as the guitar in thadam's, how could we tell he was playing it right?

  • Yeah, thanks dude. I think the Background music is loud enough to get a nice overall "sound-picture" =)

  • Sounds a bit professional from my view ^^. I'm trying to learn to play this song, and I'm a tad envious, really good job playing, though.

  • nice, you have the same amp as me! great job, btw. i can only play portions of the song. the outro is my favorite part.

  • nice played^^ not worlds best band, but this is for sure the best number ever made!!!

  • dude nice pickups

  • are these not the stock pups?

  • For me... the best band in the whole world... every single song is a masterpiece

  • Whaaaat? I'm not worthy!

  • Awsome dude...

    Nice shirt aswell =D

  • you got it down, perfect sound. the only thing is im pretty sure this song is played using all muted upstrokes.

  • awesome..<3

  • i would say i hate you but your so fucking awesome and you like tool!!

  • Great work...

  • you have the sound man... good cover...

  • i LOVE the first few seconds of your vid

  • Love the sound you managed to get. Trial and error paid off. Any chance you could tell me is it just in D? If not, what tuning and is there any chance you'd do a video breaking it down piece by piece? Kind of an instructional? Thanks man! Keep it up!

  • Tool uses dropped D tuning :) (meaning the low E string is tuned to lower D)

  • Great Sound Result Man!! GREAT COVER!

  • awsome what fx are you using

  • You should play Machinae Supremacy songs. :)
