A #1 song for Sly and The Family Stone on the Rhythm & Blues charts. It was the 205th #1 R&B song of the Rock Era. It also hit #1 on the Top 40 charts.
Sly is the innovator and he gets very little credit for his body of work.He brought all races together with his multifaceted band mates. Love Sly Stone and everything he has ever put out and he will go down in my book as one of the greatest of my generation and one of all time...
Sly was a pretty egotistical character for sure - he married a white girl with Madison Square Garden as the venue - but this a very beautiful song. and of course what was more classic than "Stand".
i love sly and family-i'm 63 and just loved them when they first came out. my husband and i had tickets for his houston appearance-but, he didn't show up-still love sly and group! he is so talented!! thanks soso much for posting-this is one of my favorites!!
@dogcat126 >Sly was the bomb back then! I am 52 and partied to all of their music back in the 70's. My older brother saw Sly getting married at Madison Square Garen back in 75! LOL! That was insane! Sly was destroyed by drugs but he has come back. Sly was booked for the Apollo Theater in NYC, but he never showed up too. This band could take you to church and back! They were amazing and Sly as a producer and songwriter was a genius! Todays kids and my kids do not know what FUNK or Soul truly is.
this song touches my soul! brings tears to my eyes and a smile to my face!

Such a fabulous band. It breaks my heart that they flushed themselves down the old drug toilet.
