What a great video......boy do you have a "keeper"...what a great pair you guys looked so happy......I'm envious....I'm 61 and never done any backpacking.....like that.....climbed Longs a couple times but the knees are about gone now.....love RMNP all my life....started going there in the mid '50's with my parents. Thanks for the wonderful video....took me away to the mountains again.
Thanks for watching! We took our time, and we only did about 6 miles a day on average. 4 overnighter on this loop. Packs are about 40 pounds at the beginning. I do not own a canister, but I hung my stuff sacks for the most part. A few sites had small bear boxes that you can use. Enjoy it if you try it!
Am planning on taking my wife on this loop mid July. It's her first trip and we're both a little older then you guys...50ish.........how many days were you on the trail and how would you rate it as being physically challenging.........great video by the way.
Mike and Kristan, this is too wild. I posted on you GNP Gunsight Pass video about a month ago since my husband and I were doing the same trip a couple of weeks later. Returned Aug 29th from that trip and it was every bit as gorgeous as your video. Now we're researching routes for next year's trip to RMNP and here we are again, watching another of your videos. Looks like you guys have as much fun as Ed and I do. You, like us, are a blessed couple. -Annette
@nthnthebsebllplr I'd say Mid to late July to Mid September would be the best bet to do this hike.
Some of the sites do allow campfires, some do not. Unfortunately when we were out there, no fires were allowed at all due to drought conditions. Either way, you'll need a stove to make your food. Have fun and thanks for watching my Video
Nice Video! we are planning a trip in early Aug, 2010 to Fern Lake area ('bout one mile away from it).
I wish the Parks and Forest Service could slash and burn the dying conifers or at least not prevent their natural burning. Boy, when they do finally burn, holy cow it's gonna be a flame to remember.
I was on that trail a week ago. One of the members of the group got lost and barely made it up to the Haynack campground. We had to turn around instead of going over Flattop Mountain.
Wow, that is such amazing scenery! I'm quite jealous! Thanks for sharing. Nice job on the video! :) BTW, Timm said I should only give you 1 star (but I didn't listen), so give him some sh$* LOL
Looks great, I'm planning a 6 day trip around the same area.

How many miles did you make each day? How much did your packs weigh? Three overnighters? Did you use bearbags or canisters? It looked great. Thanks.

When would you suggest is the best time to attempt this hike (month wise). Also, do they allow campfires, or is it necessary to haul along a stove?

This video rocks. Went there in July 2009 but did not make it over the top. I am going to try again in 2010.
