um...Omar, the Second Khalifah, used to have muttah, aka temporary marriage. He banned it because it was being abused, as is normal with things that are made easy for us. And the concept of muttah comes from the Qur'an. Temporary marriage has certain conditions that need to be met that differentiate it from zina, or fornication. And finally, before Sunnis can talk about Shiites and muttah, but Sunnis have something called "nikah misyar," which is also temporary marriage.

And nobody asks Hussein for anything except intercession on the day of Judgment, which is something even Sunnis do. I was taught BY A SUNNI the following dua, "I ask that you raise the rank and the status of the Prophet Muhammad and that he may intercede for me on the day of Judgment." Intercession is something both Sunnis and Shiites believe. How sad that the only negative thing you can say about Shiism is regarding muttah, something that is even debated within the sect.

I also attended a lecture by Sheikh Samir an Nass, a Sunni hadith historian from Syria, who spoke about intercession and how it differs from shirk. Intercession is when you ask someone to ask Allah on your behalf; you don't think s/he is Allah.

People like to criticize Shiites and say they have weird traditions, yet all of the four Sunni imams with their own maddhabs benefitted from the 12 imams. Imam Abu Hanifah studied with Imam Jaafar and taught Imam Shaffyii, who obviously benefitted from the teachings of Imam Jaafar as well. Imam Malik attended lectures of Imam Jaafar, as did Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal. If you think Shiites have weird traditions then clearly you think the same of the four Imams, which is wrong.
