If Megaman X3 was an real Genesis Megaman X3 game, not the pirate one, Genesis music over-rates Snes music whit this one. If it was real. Great one cover genesis style!
@singularity3 Nah, I disagree, one of the reasons being the SNES version was the original, and another being that I like the SNES mosh samples better; However, I like the percussion more in this version. Besides, it depends on what samples are used on either Genesis or SNES; they are both capable of using that hard Mega Drive snare, or that subby SNES bass.
Part of me always wondered why the Megaman X games didn't go to the Genesis instead of the SNES. The SNES had better expansion capabilities, built in sprite rotation and a few other useful features, but the Genesis had better built in support for large and detailed sprites, processor intensive scenes (anyone remember the lag from the desert in X2?) as well as a sound system that was more fitting of the later X game's music.
But X2 and X3 utilized a special chip for vector wire frames, and the Genny doesn't have something like that. (Maybe the SVP chip could work....) Unless it ran on the 32x. But we all know how much that add-on sucked. D:
Well, the SVP chip is proof that at least in theory the Genesis could have supported add on chips like the SNES. I don't really know the tech specs well enough to say how hard it was to get add on chips to work with the Genesis, but the SVP chip was actually head and shoulders better than the Super FX. One other thing to consider is that the Genesis basically used the same CPU as old Macintosh computers, which could render wireframe graphics in software mode easily.
@SonicTheJackrabbit The SVP would have been overkill, a wireframe boss here and there is easy in comparison to a full 3D game like Virtua Racing. Heck even the Sega CD's extra hardware would have been more than capable enough to do wireframes.
Also, did MMX3 even use the full 256 colour palette of the SNES? I would say even less than 128…
And those fancy 3D graphics animation produced by the Cx4 chip, used for the 1st Boss in MMX2, is nothing that could not be accomplished in software mode, as seen in the Vector Man series on the Mega Drive.
How ever, I have no doubt that Capcom could have pulled off this series on the Mega Drive, seeing as to how good “Mega Man - The Wily Wars” looks and sounds on the Mega Drive.
And how is it that most Arcade PCBs that used similar FM-based sound hardware back in the day, sounded superior to the Mega Drive and even to the SNES?
This does not sound as faithful to the original on the SNES or even comparable to the CD quality version of the PSX & Saturn, as your other MMX3 - Intro Stage (Genesis Cover), which was excellent.
Wow... This is actually damn cool... I'm really not sure what else to say to it, but yeah. Definately awesome. Now, pardon me while I go check out the rest of your stuff.
You know what you could do, is put this song on that pirated Mega Man X 3 for the Genesis that way the music doesn't suck. But thats just me, good job overall.
There is a rom hack of a Sonic game out there with this song in it. It does not sound quite as cool in game as it does here, but it's still pretty good. The game is called Sonic Boom, look at the responses for that version.
Shinobi 3 and Mega Turrican. Used a .vgm player, muted all FM/PSG channels, then recorded to .wav and cropped out the individual samples in a generic sound editor.
@geckoyamori These remakes are awesome! Can you get sounds from contra hard corps for your next ones? I think that game has great music and sounds like metal music
I sequenced them in FLStudio using a free VSTi called VOPM, for the PSG channels I used the native FL synth 3xosc loaded with simple square oscillators, and the drum samples are ripped straight from various Genesis games.
you should try some spark mandrill or megaman 9 tunes maybe throw some other sick nintendo songs in this cause ya know sometimes megadrive music is bad sometimes good lol.but if your taking requests i want spark mandrill

Those chips where relatively inexpensive so you might as well include it(I might be wrong though.)

@alxxz They used more costly chips that offered the same features as both the SNES and Genesis combined, along with some higher quality extras.
