  • i like how the bass and guitar look

  • arguing over a video good god shut up and enjoy the music will ya

  • HOME ALONE :)

  • Speaking of Berry, often overlooked is that he's arguably one of the handful of greatest lyricists in rock along with Davies, Dylan, etc.

  • It's like this. When Chuck Berry toured, he didn't have to take a band with him. He'd pick up a band in the town he would play because everybody knew his music and would jump at the chance top play with him. Simple? Maybe/.Still listened to and copied 55 years later? You better believe it. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame charter member.

  • Seriously? You cannot compare the two. Chuck didn't invent the three chord format but he did find his niche within it and was successful with it. Brian is a skilled technician who understands music theory; how and why it works or doesn't work. Brian's influences by the Chuck Berrys of the world are miniscule in comparison to rockabilly, jazz and traditional music all of which occured long before CB. CB plays guitar but is certainly no guitar player. He got very lucky. Good for him.

  • Awesome!

  • Of course Setzer is a technically better guitar player than Chuck Berry, that's not the point!

Without Chuck, Setzer, Keith Richards, Hendrix, and every other rock guitar player of the last 50 years wouldn't have existed. Chuck Berry invented rock guitar playing - and thank God for him.

  • @jackHNv Your lack of knowing music history is showing, bro.

  • @southwestcds I don't think so! Who's the most covered song writer in rock? Almost every band from the 60s and 70s cut their teeth on Chuck Berry songs, and his influence can be heard on the playing of every rock guitar from Jimmy Page to Slash.

Obviously there are others, blues players and jazz players who had influence but no-one as much as CB.

  • @jackHNv Hi, Jack. You most likely weren't fiddling with a guitar in those days like a lot of us were or you wouldn't make such a claim. The fact is that CB wasn't a player. I'm sorry but he just wasn't. As I said, he found his niche and worked it with success much like folks such as Bo Diddley did. It didn't make them players. Any player who 'cut his teeth' on those guys eventually learned to toddle. When they could, they did. After a week or two, there was nothing left to learn from them.

  • @southwestcds No, I wasn't fiddling with a guitar in those days, I didn't pick a guitar up until 1977, I have however played professionally for over 30 years since then.

I didn't say CB was a great player, I said he was influential, which he obviously was. The Beatles, Elvis, Stones, Hendrix, Dave Edmunds, Setzer, The Who, Mountain, Ten Years After, Beach Boys, Johnny Winter, Pistols, AC/DC, and countless others - what have they all got in common? They've all recorded CB songs, I rest my case.

  • @jackHNv Which, I believe, is pretty much what I said. I'm done with this.

  • He's not God but God has him on speed dial

  • Brian Setzer is God!!

  • I have seen Brian in many different bands. One of my faves was with the Radiation Ranch. He never fails to amaze me. I have seen them all from Hendrix to SRV and Brian is always on and I think vastly underrated.

  • Sorry, but I've seen both Chuck Berry and Brian Setzer play live, and I can tell you in all honesty that Brian Setzer can outplay 3 Chord Chuck any day, blindfolded, with one hand tied behind his back. It's just a Fact, no favoritism involved.

  • Except that Rock and Rock-a Billy were around before Berry was.

  • damn good!

  • A nice follow-up to this might be some Christmas sounds from Los Straitjackets. They ain't too shabby. A Merry and Rockin' Christmas 2011 to all!

  • A bit of Eddie Cochran is in Brian's soul.

  • Brian Setzer and the Amazing Greg Proops Troop!

  • the only thing that Berry created was 3 chords and a syringe full of Heroin. He's a Dog...

  • @HUBBAHUBBAWOOWOO REMEMBER ,, WITHOUT CHUCK THIS STYLE WOULD NOT STILL BE HERE OR SETZER PLAYING IT SO WELL & PAYING IT SUCH TRIBUTE !!

  • @HUBBAHUBBAWOOWOO Good Lord! Chuck Berry didn't invent the three chord riff. It has been around as long as the four chord riff. Where do you people get this stuff?

  • Chuck Berry has been a lifelong Heroin addict with nowhere the talent of Brian Setzer.

  • @HUBBAHUBBAWOOWOO lmao....if it wasn't for Chuck Berry, Brian Setzer wouldn't be who he is, nor would almost every rock guitarist that's worth a damn.

For what it's worth, Brian's cover sucks compared to Chuck's version.

  • @NeedlessKane Get a life !

  • @HUBBAHUBBAWOOWOO Get a life !

  • Bought Setzer & Co. a round at the McCarran airport in Vegas back in the ninties. Nice guy.

Also met Scott Ian of Anthrax at the baggage claim on a different Vegas trip. Big whoop for me!

  • Church is in session !!!! Let it rock !!!

  • you gotta remember Chuck invented a lot of what brians playin. Brian would admit that but as far as being more accomplished yes Setzer probably can play more intricate riffs. Chuck was at the forfront of rock we are all just copycats

  • @TheKeithandre You've got to give Brian ALOT of credit for keeping this music alive in this pretentious day and age

  • Miss the original Stray Cats line up but this is still good

  • lol: shootin like a spinning star

  • Is it me,..or do the bassist and drummer look like they could be brothers?

  • q grande setzer

  • Yes!!! I was there....BAD GUITAR!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • AIN'T THIS FUUUUNNNNNNNNN! THANX!

    Eddie would be proud

  • Always Loved his fuckin tone!! Great guitarist.

  • Whoohoo!!!!! Love, Love This!!!! Rock On!!!!

  • hmm not bad ....

  • shit

  • FAR better than old Junkie Chuck Berry, a classy, tasteful Family Show

  • @HUBBAHUBBAWOOWOO...."old Junkie Chuck Berry". Up until now, everyone only thought you were stupid, but you opened your mouth and removed all doubt

  • amazing!!! <3 :)

  • Marty McFly does Christmas LOL

  • kick butt :) QC

  • Different than Chuck Berry, for sure......Chuck Berry's version JUMPED!!

  • greattt

  • Nice guitar!!!.... Brian.... legend of rock guitar!!!

  • Go, Brian go!

  • Sorry, I just can't seem to get enough of Brian. 'Specially when I'm in a festive mood.

  • Merry Christmas 2011 - Chuck Berry, Brian Setzer, Keith Richards. I wonder if Eddie Cochran ever covered this one? It would've sounded great! Eddie Cochran -- Rock on in Heaven, brother! This version is King Tone!

  • The band has certainly donned some gay apparel! LOVE IT!

  • If you're gonna sing the song. Sing it right!!! Idiot!!!!!!!!!

  • GREAT BAND !!! AWESOME GUITAR TALENT !!!! THE GREAT ONES ,, CLASSICS NEVER DIE !!!!!

  • Hey Duce just letting you know brian is going to be on abc for the CMA county christmas awards. it starts at 9pm est. i thought ud be intrested :)

  • @ronniemurga yeah right. AWESOME POMPS!

  • lol my mom loves this song

  • Lovoooove this man! True rockabilly man!

  • AWWWW YEA ROCKABILLY RULES MY FRIENDS! :)

  • The instruments are very cool, and rather Ironic! I love it all.

  • Re: Who does the best version of this song.

Between Chuck, Dave E., Brian and Jon Bon I guess we have to have (wait for it) A RUN OFF ... (get it?).

  • @stans06 and it shall be the christmas extravaganza to end all christmas extravaganzas!

  • He is THE MAN!

  • lady's and gentlemen, on guitar and vocals, BRIAN SETZER! on bass BUDDY HOLLY'S CLONE A...and on drums, BUDDY HOLLY'S CLONE B

  • @tazmon122 That is what I was going to point out. Sorry Buddy but you've been demoted. You two Buddy.

  • Eddie Cochran reincarnated, when I hear Brian play!!!!!!!

  • Just WOW

  • Mr. Setzer, thanks for keeping rock'n roll alive instead of calling it "a thing of the past."

  • The bass sounds really fat if you turn the subwoofer on;it's too bass for some speakers

  • @Alc6vol I know what you're talking about! I have this problem with the 2007 remix of "Rapture" by iio. Then I realize how badly seated my subwoofer chassis really is...since it does not only make vibrate the woofer, but also the tough (!) plastic around it ;)

  • There is no bass though? If that double bass was being picked up by the

PA or an input somewhere you'd hear a bassline ,all you hear is the bass drum. anyone notice? I bought the DVD one Christmas(!) brought it back .no f***ing bass Sir! Brian is still cool though.

  • the solo was just fine.

brian is a kick ass guitar player.

    now,have some respect.

  • What do it "better" you wanker??? Are you one of those who fight with 12 year olds about who is the fastest player and all that? Hahahaha..anyone who knows SOMETHING about playing the guitar (yes your English is shit btw) can play like Brian Setzer, hahahaha you made my day, YES, I agree: you are an idiot!!

    :)

  • @anderhenrique You're an idiot.

  • @MrPocketGuitar You can suck a cock, my friend... that was MY Opinion! you can disagree or not... I don't care

  • @anderhenrique fuck of you dumb cunt learn to play guitar and then tell me what you think. and yes thats my opinion so if you dont like it then fuck off.

  • @anderhenrique and anyone who knows anything about guitar will know that you are not fit to re string brians guitars.......brian could play you off any stage without even breaking a sweat......you must be like 12 years old and really into thrash metal ...otherwise you would stop flapping your gums in the wind and sounding like a nutsucker

  • @anderhenrique You are an iidiot, I've been a pro guitar player for 30 years and Brian Setzer is one of the best guitar players of his generation.

He is technically brilliant and can play rock 'n' roll guitar and jazz with real feel, either you don't play or you have no idea what good playing is.

  • @jackHNv ur correct I'm a drummer/guitarist and I don't need anyone to tell me what I like

  • @Syzygy60 You can like whatever you choose to like. I like all the people who get an instrument of some sort and become overnight experts on the entire music industry. No, actually I don't like that but I suffer you anyway.

  • @jackHNv you go, buddy. straighten his dumb ass out.

  • @roanokejoe Fucking right!

  • @anderhenrique You would make an awesome guitar teacher, not. What's funny is that you have been proved wrong by other more experienced players.

  • @anderhenrique dude.. you suck.. you are really like 12 years old kid who knows nothing about playing guitar.. you just suck!!! -.-''

  • As good as Chuck Berry

  • @TheDonz1943 Actually Brian is exponentially BETTER than Chuck Berry.

He plays and sings things that Berry in his prime could only dream of.

Berry wrote some great stuff though.

  • @TheDonz1943 don't think so

  • the drummer and bass player keep such a groove

  • went in montreal 2011

  • Awesome, Brian can GROOVE VERY COOL

  • Yow!!!

  • these guys rock! i like all the verisons of this song it's a shame they dont have the bryan adams verison.

  • How can anyone NOT like this?!

    Bah Humbug to you. :)

  • nice drums.

  • this is so fuucckkiinngg cooll

  • I love Brian Setzer...Saw him live a long time ago and his shows are worth every penny... This cat can play man!!

  • @mustangpatty51 I've seen the Orchestra five times and Stray Cats once in 2007 - I'll tell you, it never gets old!

  • scheis video

  • Always wondered why the stray cats were never larger than they were. Maybe they were oversease..not sure. But always dug Brian..Vocals were always spot on. True entertainer. And yes a sort of 50's throw back rock-a-billy vibe.

  • Brian is likely the last kink of Rockabilly.

  • god he's SO OLD NOW

  • not bad...it's definitely his sound but it's no dave edmunds.

  • Comment removed

  • Dude butchered a great tune.

  • @adam14041 I don't think so..it just his rendition of the version....Watch BonJovi and Springsteen doing the same song....

  • Everything except in the correct KEY, out of tune, out of speed, we do not feel at all what did Chuck...a version of "Roll Over Beethoven" , btw posted today, december 08 2010, 30 years ago a sick person killed John Lennon...

  • how is that kick set up on the drummers drum?

  • @Samitch04 You push the pedal, and it hits the bottom of the floor tom looking one, the big one.

  • I can't get enough of Brian Setzer's sound. His guitar style and talent blow me away. I'd never been to any Stray Cats shows back in the day (though they were an excellent group), but being at his live Christmas shows every year is a must. The man knows his way around some strings for certain.

  • One of the best Rock'n'Roll Christmas songs!!

  • He rocks

  • great song!

  • brain has also set a whole Christmas album put out like billy idol?

  • Kicking off the Holiday Season? Try a lil boogie woogie Christmas Setzer Style...

  • so many great verisons of this song to me they all rock!

  • 12 people are hunters that don't want Rudolph to go.

  • @P270397

wooo thats so funny dude.. NOT =.=

  • Dig the quiffs wish I had all that hair lol

  • VIVA LA CREATIVITY...GREAT..ALIVE::

  • you gotta listen to run rudolph with lemmy kilmister

  • :throws up:

  • I love the Stray Cats but for this number I better watch the original by Chuck Berry.

  • @jt123egypte problem is finding a copy of the Chuck Berry version that doesn't sound like mud because it hasn't been remastered :(

  • This is on the Lynyrd Skyryd Christmas Album. Santa is driving a red pick up truck on the cover photo. Ho Ho Ho.

  • The best run run rudolph, in my opinion, is of lynrd skynrd

  • @naiero I respectfully disagree. This is Chuck Berry's song and he did it the best. Merry Christmas!

  • Nice'n'chunky on the rhythm guitar, the way it was meant to be. ; )

  • Brian Setzer really did one of the best versions of Run Rudolph Run. Dave Edmunds is another and always Chuck Berry's original. Christmas time is here now!

  • Just looking at Christmas song videos and found your comment Johan! Saw The Stray Cats in '82 in Milwaukee and The Brian Setzer Orchestra when the band formed in '94 and in '95 at Summerfest in Milwaukee. Got to see the Christmas Extravaganza at the Universal Amphitheatre in L.A. in 2003. Great video!

  • Summerfest

Are Germans living near the "Summerfest" place?

  • Probably the most German immigrants in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Than anywhere in the United States. This is where most all of the large breweries started. Why? Because of the great German brewmeisters that came here. We are the beer capital. My full name is Michael Dober. My fathers heritage is German, my mothers Austrian. Proud of my heritage. From Wikipedia: To this day, the Greater Milwaukee phone book includes more than 40 pages of Schmitts or Schmidts, far more than the pages of Smiths.

  • @allaboard70 EXACT BRIAN, DAVE AND THE CHIEF CHUCK BERRY

  • WOW soooo Coooollllll Brian you Rock.

  • no no im the bestest at it.i mean who ever heard of la nerds skid erds

  • WHERE'S THE BLACK SABBATH VERSION

  • Yeah!

  • genious

  • Setzer is the only artist I would grant the right to remake this classic. Berry got it right the first time, and eveyone (except Brian) who tries to re-do it just messes it up, imo.

  • Did anyone actually ask you?

  • Have to disagree. Lynyrd Skynyrd did it several years ago and got it right on the money.

  • Ah, Dave Edmunds kicks ass doing this song...........

  • George Thorogood also does this song justice, as well as staying in the spirit if Berry..

  • cool but the best is lynrid skynird..... after Berry of course :P

  • Skynyrds version flat out rocks the house! My favorite for sure!

  • Just saw his Christmas concert in New York. This man is a legend. Awesone show.

  • rock n roll will never die !

  • you are a good singer

  • Chuck, Brian and Dave (Edmunds) is all great in this song. Rock on the Christmas 2009 :)

  • Chuck Berry is the original. Setzer took some liberties with the lyrics (shame).

  • so what

  • who did this song originally

  • I want his guitar! I love the flames!

  • EPIC!

  • Ohhh Yeah !

  • 3 Rockin' Cats with a big sound. Love it!

  • That was great! And I LOVE their instruments...God I'm so shallow, I've been doing nothing but staring at the flames. XD

    Seriously awesome performance though! :D

  • @tektive yes... i want his guitar!!!!

  • Two guys from Brian Setzer Orchestra. I reckon they are identical to The 68 Special.

    Go ahead, google 'em :)

  • No, they are not. Mark Winchester played Bass for 68 CBS.

This is Johnny Hatton on Bass.

The Drummer Bernie Dresel did play for 68CBS though.

But Brian has a new Drummer for the BSO, his name is Tony Pia.

  • Well, I came close, didn't I? Heh heh...

Fair enough - I stand corrected. Thanks

    :)

  • No Problem! =)

  • Who are the backin cats certainly not stray cats. the first guys looked bit like sha na na type

  • I think their names are Bernie Dreisal and Johnny Hatton

  • Tu en es sur? Superbe
