Love this scene, Cried my eyes out at the end. Hard to believe this only lasted a season, at least it was a Damn good season and they made the best damn move that I have ever seen
i'm sure the other seasons of firefly would have been amazing, but I'm happy atleast this one exists, as well as the movie, because they will always be something special, I dunno if you could make 9 or 10 seasons as amazing as this, and I wouldn't ever want the quality of firefly to be compromised, every episode, every fucking line was perfect. Love this shot.
Love is why we're all here. We're still flying because of love. Can't slow us down, long as we love this ship. There'll always be problems. Love is the reason no power in the 'Verse can stop us.
I love this scene. Also, it makes me smile to see Wash's dinosaurs on the pilot station when Mal tells River the first rule. It's kind of like both Mal and Wash telling her in a way... :) Thanks for uploading!
@UncleMikeNJ i would rather have firefly, Castle is ok, but firefly was pure gold. Very few shows like that ever happen. Firefly pulled at your heart but also had plunty of action and funny bits. I can't think of another tv show i would want to continue then firefly. Im sad fox screwed this show over before it even aired.
Ironically, Fox was the channel that canceled it. >>; I dont mean to sound overly liberal here, or take sides... but fox tends to uphold what they see as the conservative american imagine. At first glance a show about a ronin smuggler cowboy and his wiley gang of good-hearted ruffians would appeal to that...
My theory is, they realized this series was a work of art, had a deep and eternally resounding message, and were all "-Facedesk- F***!!"
Its been a Crime to end this great series so early. I never seen any series mixed with characters like this. Perfect balance!
And when I see how many C.R.A.P. coming out from studios with a millions budget I want to cry. I hope whoever made the call to shut down the series will watch in hell only comercials for eternity!!!
for me its already a LEGEND wich will never be replaced by anything in my entire live...
@meepfeet Well, she wasn't normal persay. Her brain is still tampered with, but heres my theory:
In the beginning we learn she was in the same room with high ranking officials, who know stuff. Since she's a physic she picked up on it and has to bear this, a young innocent teen girl with the memory of the death of a planet and the birth of reavers.
When the crew uncovers this, she no longer has to bear the burden since the whole 'verse now knows, so she's calm, and "normal".
This single scene, i feel, encapsulates the entire Firefly universe as a whole. beautifully written, executed, and the rain and blue backdrop works magnificantly
Drive a car you don't love and it will leave you stranded, Love it and will tell you when somethings gotta be fixed, and will keep going when you thought it was gonna break down =)
this is such a beautiful scene. it describes every captain who has every loved his ship. i'm always reminded of the doctor with his TARDIS (from Doctor Who) when i hear this. both extremely good sci-fi shows (firefly fans; please don't shoot me down saying that doctor who isn't as good; i love them both!!!)
My favorite movie of all time based on my favorite TV series of all time, and my eyes couldn't help watering when I first saw this scene and how perfect this speech was. Yeah, they still water just a lil' bit...
I haven't even seen the movie yet and this is already my favorite scene in it. I'm hesitating about actually seeing it because I know it will never be as awesome as the first time.
@Arancaytar Not from a lack of trying. Everyone has been pushing but it seems that five years might just be too far out of reach in the black for Joss. He was hurt when Firefly was taken from him and Serenity never quite patched up all the wounds.
Alright, who was the one yahoo what disliked this? Right there's one of the finest bits of wisdom this side of the 'verse. Have to be a right fool not to appreciate that.
@Pocuserve I have a feeling Wash mighta known this one himself even without Mal mentioning it. Wash despite his complaining always called Serenity home.
Love it. That should of been the leaving off point, setting up the sequel.
Mal maybe not as bitter or as cynical, and River sane/in control of herself
But it's the perfect end as it is, perfectly summing up Firefly for Browncoats all over the world. Love kept it going, when a normal show would of died without a fight.
A simple, forgotten warrior imparts the oldest of wisdom on a child genius. Just goes to show you, nothing replaces the hard lessons learned living life...
Mal's a great man. His planent was bombed to where no one could live on it and he lost all his faith in God in the Battle of Serenity. But he kept going. And he still believes in love.
good scene, thanks for the upload, wish it was widescreen this version looks stretched out, but still a good scene between mal and river, and a nice way to end the movie, other than 'what the heck was that!?!' kinda bringing the movie full circle...
i agree, but for a man who belives this about his ship, he sure dosen't spread much love around the ship, he'll deal someone a peck a trouble even of his good days, turn on you quicker than a reaver, on his worst days...
He'll be snarky I'll admit... but when it really does matter, he loves his crew. he'll fight them till the day he dies but he'll die for them in a heart beat.
After the battle of Serenity Mal lost everything, and for the most part you could call him an emotional cripple. Mal himself brings it up:
"I'm a boat with no rudder, 'Narra. Wind blows northernly, I go north. Now that might not be the man to lead but they still got ta follow."
The 'Those Left Behind' comics also brings it up as well when the crew strike it rich. What mal does to get what his perfect dream shows just how desperate he needs them. Having them onboard
that maybe true and all, but i think he may use that as a crutch to be a very hard man to be with... i hope i would never be like that, if i ever had a loss like that...
i just want to say to the person saying the operative disliked, at the end, he helped refit serenity,
and tried to convince the alliance that river wasn't a threat.
so i don't think he was all bad.

Does anyone notice the way her knees rise up. She's signalling extreme horniness.
As far as philosophy goes, this is banal. If you like it then it's because she's horny. End of story.
