  • i just want to say to the person saying the operative disliked, at the end, he helped refit serenity,

and tried to convince the alliance that river wasn't a threat.

so i don't think he was all bad.

  • Love this scene, Cried my eyes out at the end. Hard to believe this only lasted a season, at least it was a Damn good season and they made the best damn move that I have ever seen

  • Anyone else notice that Wash's dinosaurs are still on the control board? <3

  • @Ralx13 yep, that always brings a smile to my face.

  • Take my love, take my land, but if you touch my fire fly I will f***ing end you!!!!!!! FOX!!!

  • I LOVE this scene...I just wish they left in the part of Serenity breaking atmo. That totally completes the scene for me.

  • Almost cried. Oh god.

  • I love how he calls her 'little albatross'.

  • i'm sure the other seasons of firefly would have been amazing, but I'm happy atleast this one exists, as well as the movie, because they will always be something special, I dunno if you could make 9 or 10 seasons as amazing as this, and I wouldn't ever want the quality of firefly to be compromised, every episode, every fucking line was perfect. Love this shot.

  • The thing about this scene that breaks my heart is to see the line up of wash's toy dinosaurs on the dashboard. It makes me so sad :(

  • Second rule: don't cheap out on the compression coil.

  • ok. THIS, this moment in Serenity, is EXACTLY what Firefly, Serenity, and this big damn verse is all about.

  • Zoe: "She's tore up plenty, but she'll fly true." <3 a quote that has double meaning. :< that line also cuts at my heart. WASH DD:

  • I can't imagine firefly or serenity 2 without wash... I mean, I hope to see sequels, but its strange without THE pilot of the universe

  • Firefly = awesome TV show. WHY MUST THE GOOD DIE YOUNG :(

  • I have this line framed on my wall

  • Makes me sad to see Wash's toy dinosaurs by the controls that were once his pilot station.

  • Love is why we're all here. We're still flying because of love. Can't slow us down, long as we love this ship. There'll always be problems. Love is the reason no power in the 'Verse can stop us.

  • I love this scene. Also, it makes me smile to see Wash's dinosaurs on the pilot station when Mal tells River the first rule. It's kind of like both Mal and Wash telling her in a way... :) Thanks for uploading!

  • One of the best lines in the entire movie. THIS is what Firefly was all about.

  • @CarpeGuitarrem i thought he was going to say . dont talk about flying, but i was wrong

  • Wash's dinosaurs made me tear up a bit =,(

  • If "Firefly" hadn't been cancelled, we wouldn't now have "Castle." You want an omelet, you gotta break some eggs.

  • @UncleMikeNJ Losing Firefly makes it more like killing a chicken for an egg

  • @UncleMikeNJ i would rather have firefly, Castle is ok, but firefly was pure gold. Very few shows like that ever happen. Firefly pulled at your heart but also had plunty of action and funny bits. I can't think of another tv show i would want to continue then firefly. Im sad fox screwed this show over before it even aired.

  • who ever made the call to cancel firefly has a special spot in hell "reserved for child molesters, and people who talk in the theater."

  • Goosebumps! Just all over. Such an amazing scene.

  • One of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite movies!

  • The one dislike is the operative...

  • @Antyface The one dislike didn't love their ship, so they crashed.

  • @NiceGuy019 More like they got aboard something powered by a Capasin 38 engine, and it fell off!

  • Ironically, Fox was the channel that canceled it. >>; I dont mean to sound overly liberal here, or take sides... but fox tends to uphold what they see as the conservative american imagine. At first glance a show about a ronin smuggler cowboy and his wiley gang of good-hearted ruffians would appeal to that...

My theory is, they realized this series was a work of art, had a deep and eternally resounding message, and were all "-Facedesk- F***!!"

  • Its been a Crime to end this great series so early. I never seen any series mixed with characters like this. Perfect balance!

And when I see how many C.R.A.P. coming out from studios with a millions budget I want to cry. I hope whoever made the call to shut down the series will watch in hell only comercials for eternity!!!

for me its already a LEGEND wich will never be replaced by anything in my entire live...

  • i love this scene. so beautiful. <3

  • So in the end, was River back to normal?

  • @meepfeet It looks like, but we will never find it out.

  • @Cornelius9000 yes, thats the sad truth of life

  • @meepfeet Well, she wasn't normal persay. Her brain is still tampered with, but heres my theory:

In the beginning we learn she was in the same room with high ranking officials, who know stuff. Since she's a physic she picked up on it and has to bear this, a young innocent teen girl with the memory of the death of a planet and the birth of reavers.

When the crew uncovers this, she no longer has to bear the burden since the whole 'verse now knows, so she's calm, and "normal".

  • I've seen a lot of fanfiction with Mal/River pairing that started from this scene.

  • That guy sounds cool!!! Cowboys in space good show only saw the movie

  • @DaddySweets1972 See the series (available on hulu... sort of). The movie was great but the series was a lot better.

  • Every freakin time i see this scene, I get emotional. Damn this show is awesome and the movie is no different.

    "makes her a home"

    Gah I love that line

  • You see; the ship is actually a metaphor for family.

  • This single scene, i feel, encapsulates the entire Firefly universe as a whole. beautifully written, executed, and the rain and blue backdrop works magnificantly

  • This rule also applies to driving I think

Drive a car you don't love and it will leave you stranded, Love it and will tell you when somethings gotta be fixed, and will keep going when you thought it was gonna break down =)

  • this is such a beautiful scene. it describes every captain who has every loved his ship. i'm always reminded of the doctor with his TARDIS (from Doctor Who) when i hear this. both extremely good sci-fi shows (firefly fans; please don't shoot me down saying that doctor who isn't as good; i love them both!!!)

  • BRING BACK FIREFLY DAMNIT OR MAY YOU BE EAT BY REAVERS !!!

  • My favorite movie of all time based on my favorite TV series of all time, and my eyes couldn't help watering when I first saw this scene and how perfect this speech was. Yeah, they still water just a lil' bit...

  • @atrain670 I couldnt agree more. I liked that he called her "his little Albatross". What a fitting nickname

  • I haven't even seen the movie yet and this is already my favorite scene in it. I'm hesitating about actually seeing it because I know it will never be as awesome as the first time.

Please do the impossible again, you guys.

  • @Arancaytar Not from a lack of trying. Everyone has been pushing but it seems that five years might just be too far out of reach in the black for Joss. He was hurt when Firefly was taken from him and Serenity never quite patched up all the wounds.

  • Alright, who was the one yahoo what disliked this? Right there's one of the finest bits of wisdom this side of the 'verse. Have to be a right fool not to appreciate that.

  • i love this scene!!!!

  • "Storm's getting worse."

"We'll pass through it soon enough."

One of the most perfectly executed metaphors I've seen in any film.

  • @CrazyGentlemen i absolutely agree. Perfect, 2 sentences to sum up everything else they have done, and life in general, very poetic.

  • This is shiny. :D

  • I wonder if Mal ever said that to Wash when he first started piloting the ship

  • @Pocuserve I have a feeling Wash mighta known this one himself even without Mal mentioning it. Wash despite his complaining always called Serenity home.

  • I have a truck exactly like the ship: old, unimpressive, but determined and expressive. Love this scene, it describes that relationship perfectly.

Also, go up to your URL bar, put a Q between the words you and tube and then press enter or click go.

  • In a deleted scene, River surprises Mal by doing all the takeoff equations in her head.

  • could you make this longer to cover the high point of the music ?Thanks!!

  • Love it. That should of been the leaving off point, setting up the sequel.

Mal maybe not as bitter or as cynical, and River sane/in control of herself

But it's the perfect end as it is, perfectly summing up Firefly for Browncoats all over the world. Love kept it going, when a normal show would of died without a fight.

We got to see the crew of Serenity one more time!

  • This scene almost made me cry a little bit. Utterly stunning, it really is.

  • @bdf

    Get a life

  • Yeah, seriously. I mean, just the dialogue by itself is amazing, and it has tons of sentimental value to me.

  • "Nothing in the 'Verse can stop me!" Thanks!

  • A simple, forgotten warrior imparts the oldest of wisdom on a child genius. Just goes to show you, nothing replaces the hard lessons learned living life...

  • An amazing quote. Shiny.

  • I love this scene sooo much!!!! I even tried to convince my fiance to write our own vows on our wedding, so I could use it for mine!

  • wow thats cool

  • Haha, how did that work out? Were you able to use this as your vows?

  • still working on it. ;)

  • My food is problematic

  • I swallowed a bug

  • this scene almost makes me cry

  • I love this quote endlessly...

  • Mal's a great man. His planent was bombed to where no one could live on it and he lost all his faith in God in the Battle of Serenity. But he kept going. And he still believes in love.

  • I think the story of Serenity is ultimately about Mal getting his faith back.

  • @Halo4Lyf cant say I would expect much more from a halo fanboy

  • Shiny.

  • -Let's be bad guys!

  • They can't stop the signal.

  • or sherman...

  • I miss firefly :(

  • I know:( Browncoats forever

  • @dragocyber I really wish they would bring it back or make a sequel to serenity. I miss the crew soo much!!

  • good scene, thanks for the upload, wish it was widescreen this version looks stretched out, but still a good scene between mal and river, and a nice way to end the movie, other than 'what the heck was that!?!' kinda bringing the movie full circle...

  • My favorite scene. My favrote lines. Such powerful words. Such feeling in them. I love this moment between River and Mal.

  • i agree, but for a man who belives this about his ship, he sure dosen't spread much love around the ship, he'll deal someone a peck a trouble even of his good days, turn on you quicker than a reaver, on his worst days...

  • He'll be snarky I'll admit... but when it really does matter, he loves his crew. he'll fight them till the day he dies but he'll die for them in a heart beat.

  • he seems like the power that being cap'n offers i think he uses it way too much, he would be a hard man to work with, atleast imo

  • yeah dude, but he went back for simon and river, even though he didnt have to, he loves his crew.

  • i know he proves he loves them when it comes down to it, but a lil' love when when not life and eath situations arise would be nice, but oh well...

  • After the battle of Serenity Mal lost everything, and for the most part you could call him an emotional cripple. Mal himself brings it up:

"I'm a boat with no rudder, 'Narra. Wind blows northernly, I go north. Now that might not be the man to lead but they still got ta follow."

The 'Those Left Behind' comics also brings it up as well when the crew strike it rich. What mal does to get what his perfect dream shows just how desperate he needs them. Having them onboard

  • that maybe true and all, but i think he may use that as a crutch to be a very hard man to be with... i hope i would never be like that, if i ever had a loss like that...

  • Yes, I remember reading those comics, it was brilliant!

I also liked when Mal said only 2 things got him through the war - his gun, and Zoe (implied). Awesome.

  • thanx

  • question. wat does albatross mean?

  • "And I had done an hellish thing,

And it would work 'em woe :

For all averred, I had killed the bird

That made the breeze to blow.

Ah wretch ! said they, the bird to slay,

That made the breeze to blow !"

Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Part II

  • amazing, just a shame you cut it so we don't see Serenity gracefully fly off and then a part falls off again....

  • Yeah I wish I kept that part, I really liked it too! D'oh!

  • @Stevey117 XD "...what was that?"

  • @Stevey117 oh YEAH i totally forgot that part! it's why i love serenity haha it's such a classic firefly moment

  • i love firefly!! and serenity. why did fox have to cancel it. have they not seen the success that serenity got? i wish they would bring it back.

  • Masterful. Those two have enough baggage that they could only find a space big enough in which to be themselves in the Black. Fantastic movie. :)

  • I'm sure Joss Whedon feels the same way about his shows as Mal does about his ships :). Love kept Serenity in the air long after her time.

This is probably my favorite part of the movie.

  • just like love for Firefly blessed us all with this beautiful piece of cinema. i LOVE Serenity. can't stop the signal.

  • i love this part....it seems like river and mal are kindred spirits...they sort of have a darkness in them that they don't want....
