  • lol "make carbon" ........ :)

  • @SteveHolt1984 Well, whatever she was, she was never an agent, certainly not a top secret agent. As a file clerk and researcher, she was given clearance at a top secret level. This means she was cleared for access to the most sensitive material in the files. As for awards, Wikipedia states that "Child received an award that cited her many virtues, including her "drive and inherent cheerfulness.""

  • i seem to remember this for some reason......hmmm

  • す、すごい…!

  • This was for a science show on PBS. She burned the food on purpose.

  • If only I paid more attention to this show the Ring of Truth when I first seen it in the 7th grade. I would of done so much better in college, but instead I chose to fall asleep after this exact part.

And to this day I still fall asleep right after this part.

  • She was born in California -- what's with the stupid British accent?

  • @kw757 She was born into a well-to-do family and speaks accordingly, much like Frasier Crane.

  • @kw757, That isn't a British accent.

  • I think she hates the Professor.

  • @bradyischamp "first episode"? Serioulsy. Guess again.

  • Comment removed

  • She must really hate this Phill guy. lol jk.

  • burned food can contain carcinogens.

  • @diaverde09 If you live in a city, the air you breath contains carcinogens, pretty much everything arround you does.

  • i watched Julie & Julia twice :-) loved it...

  • BON APPETIT!!

  • Even the best cook burned the food he/she made! hahahahah ... I love the movie too, Meryl is the best, I love the two stories!

  • Meryl Streep is sheer genius. Best actress ever.

  • why would anyone want to burn food I saw a video of how julia child makes an omlette Im tryin to do it the way she did Im havin some trouble,,,I guess Ill have to really watch the video a few more times in order to get the hang of it as to how julia child made it,,,wish me luck,,

  • I literally just finished watching Julie and Julia and I absolutley loved it!

  • LOL! She was such a wonderful lady! And a good sport!

  • @AuroraFarmgirl She really was, and SO funny! I used to see her around Harvard Square... and I will never forget her saying, "if you don't want to use butter, you could always use cream!" I think margerine must have been like kryptonite to that Superwoman!

  • does nobody read video info anymore? it clearly says "An excerpt from a PBS science series in the 80's where Julia Child intentionally burns her food. Why? To make carbon, of course. The Phil she refers to is Phil Morrison, who hosts the series, titled RIng of Truth."

  • Wait why did she burn her food?

  • @GrimBallerina read the video info.

  • This must have been an educational video for students or something. It sounds like he's speaking to a class.

  • I'm puzzled... was this a joke? It looks horrendous, and I've never seen her produce anything that looked inedible before. Different or unusual perhaps, but not, "I'm not eating that" sort of stuff.

  • @Bostonclubkid read the video info.

  • @defacedlawngnome Pardon me... the details weren't immediately available. It makes sense now, but the condescending tone was superfluous.

  • @Bostonclubkid i was being informative, not condescending. sorry if you took it that way.

  • @defacedlawngnome No, I owe you the apology. I neglected to read the specs and, yes, I initially thought you were being condescending. Perhaps I'm also a little defensive of the late, great Julia, because I once met her, and she was always in my Mum's kitchen (on TV) each week, when I was a child. I actually credit her with sparking my own interest in cooking. Anyway, I'm sorry I misunderstood, and thanks for taking the time to share that with me.

  • @Bostonclubkid haha yeah i remember growing up watching her on the television with my mother as well. she was great. that's awesome that you got to meet her!

  • hahaha what?!

    was she joking?

    its perfectt!

    haha love her

  • i saw her real kitchen at the national museum of american history in washington d.c.

  • wow.. hahahah when she preps it its sooo terrible looking but it comes out beautifully shes soo funny :)

  • lmao she looks like my granny trying to explain me how to cook even if she can't *_*

  • Never heard of her til i saw the movie " Juile and Juile" ...now I love her...Hilarious...Bon Appetit...!

  • Hysterical! But I don't get it.

  • i love julia child

  • He was just proving that by simply heating this extreme array of different substances up, he could extract the carbon from it, carbon being an element, formed the dark black layer of "soot" on the top. She put the salt in the middle to prove that, Salt, being NaCl, Sodium and Chlorine, which contains no carbon, would not have that burned layer on top of it, but rather stayed virtually the same, save some slight figure changes.

  • why did she burn it all?? Does he like all his food burnt??

  • Lol I had no idea what was going on! I thought she'd just gotten into the grand marnier and forgot about them! Interesting way of doing a chemistry lesson there! lol

  • that was funny

  • Very interesting.

  • please somebody can explain me why she is burning the food. my english isn't good enough so for me is better if I can read the answer please please thanks a lot!!!!!

  • @algivanaro

To make carbon for this guys TV show. Its just a chemistry lesson. :)

  • Rest In Peace...The Queen And Inventor Of Cooking On Television.

    Before her.........there was nothing.

  • @Alfrunk you dont know shit. she accomplished more past the age 40 then you ever will in your life.

  • Fastbreak, he was referring to Julie Powell, the "Julie" in Julie and Julia, not Julia Child. And he is correct, Julie Powell is an extremely vile person, you only need to read the reviews of her book "Julie & Julia" on Amazon to find that out. Julia Child, before she passed away, said she didn't want to be associated with Julie Powell in any way. The Julie in the movie has no resemblance at all to the real Julie Powell, who is a disgusting human being.

  • please explain..

  • julia child... is indeed very charming hahahaha... interesting :D

  • I use to watch this science show on PBS. It was really good.

  • Great clip! I also love the one where Julia Child cooks up a batch of primordial soup. Its wonderful how she used her celebrity status to support the sciences in her own entertaining way.

  • Is she for real about her food being perfect?...

  • Her motto, always decide it's perfect, and if it's not, say it's perfect. A matter of being proud of what you set to do and at least trying. Also, read the info box :-)

  • I just sow the movie "Julie and Julia" I it was great!

  • @dalienatube I just saw it tonight it was amazing!

  • @dalienatube omg me toooo

  • @dalienatube haha me to that was a awesome movie!!!

  • Was this originally in hi def?

  • She makes cooking seem so easy.

  • Please understand that this was a science show and this was to show that all foods will turn to carbon when cooked enough. BTW I hate Julie Powell - what a hateful, vulgar creature. And further BTW, I love Julia Child - a unique woman, a strong woman....and in her own way, a womanly woman. Whereas one-hit-wonder Powell had to piggy-back off a real treasure like Mrs. Child.

  • @Mensawarrior How can you hate someone thats idolizes Julia Child? Did you just watch the movie or did you read the book?

  • @pointypencil1 I read the entire blog, I read Julia Child's very pointed response when asked about the blog, and I saw the movie. Powell is publicity, Mrs. Child is culinary.

  • @Mensawarrior So what you're saying is Julie Powell basically used Julia Child for publicity. Well, I guess I can see that point of view, but I don't think it was intentional. Powell couldn't predict her blog would get such a good response, resulting in a published book and a movie. She was just inspired by Julia Child, which I'm sure many people are. But, I'm sorry, I guess everyone's entitled to their own opinions.

  • She has a 'degree' in creative writing. Of course it was about publicity for her. Were you born yesterday?

  • K buddy, I wasn't talking to you, I was responding to Mensawarrior. And I highly doubt you know Julie Powell, so you can't speak for her and say she's a selfish bitch. Maybe she did do it for publicity, or maybe she really does respect Julia Child. Just because she has a degree in creative writing doesn't prove anything.

  • @Alfrunk Yes, in fact I have read the book. And I hate to tell you but she's just an average American, which is why she may seem so cocky and arrogant. Just because she swears and has sexual themes in her book doesnt overlay the fact that she admires Julia Child. I'm sorry you can't see that and I'm sorry you have the potential comebacks of a 12 year old, such as "What in God's name is wrong with you?"

  • He hates her because Powell didn't 'idolize' or even respect Julia Child, she used her as a nonsense 'creative writing' project. Like most people in her generation, she has no work ethic, is completely self obsessed and ego centric, and has nothing but gimmicky ideas to 'contirubte' to the world. Shame on you for not seeing that.

  • Just got through watching Julie & Julia that was her actual kitchen she is cooking in...I also didn`t realize that movie is a true story there is a real Julie if you haven`t seen it rent it it`s great if your a lover of Julia Child...

  • the first time i saw juli Child , i was like 7 years old.. im a chef now.. i think im gonna cry

  • hahaha that was great :-)

  • LMAO!!

  • I'd eat her burned food. Nothing can make her food undelicious.

  • Ha ha ha!

  • for the record she started doing TV when she was fifty

  • She was not friggen 40!! CREEPO!! she was like younger den dat!! gosh!!!

  • Hi Jonas4116, she "was" over 40 when she started cooking, she got married at a very late age. But we love her still, just wish she was still alive to enjoy her... :)

  • ohhh hehe srry

  • lol

  • wow i do not think anyone got this.

  • She burned the food on purpose. She says in the begining that she is cooking it for this Chemist the way he asked for it. This video is on Chemistry not cooking.

  • surrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre...

  • Watch towards the end of the clip and it's explained.

  • I bet Julia had fun making this.

  • @kwill81 I have tyo agree with you. She had a great sense of humor in this. I don't know how she didn't keep from Busting up laughing pulling that souffle out of the oven Calling it "Perfect" and then saying that entree meal was fit for a king. I'd crack up laughing opening the oven doors knowing I had to say that. LOL

Thanks for leaving one of the few readable comments on here. I enjoyed reading this!

  • One thing she was always known for was her sense of humor. In part, I think her ability to keep her composure and be able to make a joke or two about herself or any REAL mistakes played a part in her success (aside from a totally awesome and delicious cook book, the two other authors not withstanding).

  • LOL so funny

  • Read the comment and listen to her, she burnt things on purpose because he asked her too. It's pretty obvious near the end why he asked too...

  • Wow you people really need to read the description.

  • It's her. Read the description at the top right.

  • She did not fail. Weren't you paying attention? She deliberately burned the food to produce carbon because that is what the host of the science show asked her to do.

  • I can almost hear it!

  • Was that woman really Julia Child??? Or just someone looked like her? That was just too.....incredibleXD

  • i think thats her - its pretty hard to imitate that voice :P

  • ahah i love her voice, it's not too hard to imitate, roll your tongue back, it's kind of hard to explain how you mess around with your voice until you sound like her

  • that guy looks like a troll

  • it's a woman

  • he meant the guy u see in the beginning not julia lol and he sure looks like a damn troll XD

  • lmao

  • This demo was to show that most food contains carbon and was a lead in to the indivisable components of nature, the elements. It's not a joke or a blooper. It's just science folks.

  • lol i watched it and laughed so damn hard before the guy started talking and then i read the description i was like no way. Julia Child would not sink to this caliber. But when I thought she was playing off a screw up it was funny. While it lasted lol Viva la France!

  • This doesn't make sense at all.
