Everyone likes different things. If you're a single-artist fan, the Lonnie Donegan triple (Rock Island LIne) is OK - but it IS a bit of an overdose. The Chas McDevitt is a bit twee (for my tastes). 'Great British Skiffle' has a wide variety of music so there is good and poor - but it IS varied.'Freight Train The Skiffle Explosion' has tracks organised by group and is more organised. Can't remember if Amazon offer sound bytes but they DO list tracks. My advice - go with that you know.
One I forgot to mention is 'Skiffle Sensation' by the Lonnigans. Chas McDevitt, Diz Disley and Weee Willie Harris are involved and much of this is certainly 'thuddy'. Some great tracks as well, Freight train,Diggin' my potatoes, 6.5 Special, Long lost John, Greenback dollar and so on. It isn't as 'raw' as original skiffle of the 50's and early 60's and is at times a bit antisceptic (6.5 Special, is an example). But it's still worth a listen. May be your best bet if you want something different.
Ill admit, these guys were good, and hes right, they are good at 'busking', they have a gift for pleasing the audience. but echofilms saying that ALL the rest were 'shite' ... so wrong. Roisin Murphy (especially my fave "You Know Me Better") was amazing. she has a great voice and stage presence. thats all :-)
Proves a good point .... it's time for a skiffle revival in this country. GREAT. Also glad to see The Dodge Brothers now have a CD out, available on their own website.
Sometimes buskers are so enthralling, people don't think about handing over cash!
Meanwhile, I could have done without Laverne's voiceover
