Haha, now that you mention it, it's true that it does have a fallout atmosphere to it. We did this back in 2006-2007 though haha! We named this mod "The Plague", so it is some kind of aftermath haha!
If you have Half-Life 2 installed on your PC, you can make a mod (your own map/game) using Hammer (level editor) and Source (engine). You can use your own textures, own models, etc.
(Sorry for replying one month later) It is possible to make a full game that can be sold for profit also. Obviously, you need to get permission from Valve to sell it. If they like it enough, they will publish it and you will get a cut of the profit. (Take Garry's Mod 10 and Zeno Clash for example)

hey awesome.... a group of my classmates and i are trying to use the source sdk kit to make a game of our own... how likely is this to happen, i mean could we actually pull it off with enough time and effort? im pretty skilled in max and zbrush and ill be taking a maya class next term. do u kno of any good video tutorials on how to take models from max and put them into the source game? it seems tough with all the rigging and animation.

i thought the map itself was very impressive, the only complaint i have is the lighting and the combat was dull. and people who say i'm putting this down i'm not, i probably couldn't make a better map myself, but i could make much better combat sequences.
Hi I know this has a long answer but how do you export 3ds max models to run in hammer? Or could you direct me to some tutorials, as I'm trying to make a simple environment.

It only has on character model from Half-Life 2. We had problems with replacing characters. This was a school project.

the way your team have done it is highly commendable, as almost every waterfall I've seen done in HL2, looks terrible.
