My 2003 300M had a similar issue. The problem was a faulty connection of the starter cable, the technician reconnected the starter and the car works great.
Not sure if you have figured it out yet but, its either the Starter or Starter Solenoid. THe problem is the heat coming off the motor beats the crap out of the Solenoid. It is an easy fix. The battery you have in there looks healthy.
need new battery and check the cables and the wire to the alternator

@danielbarbu They could just be corroded. That happens frequently where the battery is located on these things...the right wheel well.
