  • Caroline was voted in with less votes that at the last election, this is because we the people are waking up to all the coruption in the government , she has done nothing to help us arrest Blair for his fucking war crimes and yes europe is Treason...build on the 1942 eec document drawn up by the Nazi at NO interview has she said we are working to have Blair stand trial for his war crimes...

  • Hurrah! thank god for that, the greens are the best choice for anyone concerned about the environment, but in recent years have positioned themselves as leaders on social justice, equality etc.

  • Excellent news for us all.

Well done Caroline, we all count on you to be the vocal minority!

  • Best news of the election. Congratulations!

  • SO happy that the Green's have their first MP, go Caroline! :)

  • A truly fantastic moment.

  • This was well worth staying up for. One of the greatest moments in politics I've ever seen.

  • Aw, watching this made me cry all over again. Absolutely over the moon for Caroline and her team. A brilliant leader and that rare thing - a truly inspiring politician. Lucky Brightonians!

  • I felt like a right bell-end when I jumped up in joy at this result at whatever ungodly hour it was. My green vote in Bristol didn't completely go to waste. (Sort of)

  • just fantastic

  • Absolutely wonderful news!

  • This is only the beginning!!

  • well deserved for the party and her.

  • Incredible. Brilliant, I can't believe it! :)

  • I was watching for this one all night long, very happy to see it finally happen. Well done Caroline and everyone in your team. Well done :)

  • A marvellous result. Not just Britain's first Green MP, but the world's first Green MP elected by First Past the Post.

It's taken 25 years of campaigning. In 1985, before its name change to "Green", an Ecology Party candidate first stood in Hanover ward (then in Kemptown, now in Pavilion).

By 1987, Brighton & Hove Green Party put up candidates in eight wards (I stood in Hanover) and expanded the number each year despite lack of funds plus exhaustion: too few activists.

    16,238 votes!

  • Thanks for this. I'm afraid I finally gave up around 5.30 and decided to get a couple of hours sleep before going to work. Wonderful to see this happen.

  • @FatIgor I'm ecstatic. We all are.
