Sometimes using the mobile version of a blocked website works. Normally its something like m.facebook.com or you can search on m.google.com

ping facebook.com or nslookup facebook.com doesnt work unless the school has little expense and just blocks the domain not the ip address but most likely schools security block proxy access remote administration as a filter
