I am born and raised in MN, but people think I am a transplant from the southern US. More to the point is the accent you are referring to here is rural Minnesotan. People that have lived in the urban areas do not sound like this at all-- well a vast majority at least.
I always find this weird. I have friends from all over the country, and they all have pronounced accents of some flavor or another, but when I've asked for comments on mine, it's always "you have the same accent as they use on TV"
I'm from Ann Arbor, MI. I am aware of the "stereotypical" Michigan accents, but here, most people use the "standard" english that has infected every television program.
Maybe it has to do with being a big college town, so everyone speaks neutrally (???) Who knows.
Minnesota/Wisconsin have pretty similar accents and you guys did a decent impersonation of how 45 year old women talk here in 'Sconsie. Stereotypically its true that Wisconsin as a state has a drinking problem and we definitely talk funny. I catch myself saying stuff like "ya kno?" and my use of the word "or" has permanently been changed to "er". Just dont make fun of me for the way that I say "Wisconsin" and when i ask where a "bubbler" is (and noone knows wtf im talking about)
@Kelsie154 maybe really strong yooper, I don't know as much about the accent up there, but I'm from southern michigan and we don't speak like this at all
haha anytime. my roommates in college were very silly. i work w/eric @ b&n and he's always telling me about your guys' videos. i love the mac vs. pc ones
I tink the Minny and Sconnie accents are a horse a piece. I'm originally from north central WI and now I live in Milwaukee. It seems as though people in Killwaukee don't speak with an accent but dey do up nort der guy.
Well, I'm from Minnesota, and I can name a whole bunch of places where people still talk like this. They're not spot on, being from the west coast and all, but they're pretty close to what you might find in places like Alexandria, Brainerd, and basically from St. Cloud all the way up to Roseau. It's not everyone, but you don't have to look real hard, either.
Do people in Colorado have an accent like that??? I was born in Boulder, you see. And I think my dad had a midwestern accent. I never hung out with him much because of my parents' divorce...
It disgusts me how people actually believe we talk like this. Its completely ridiculous! We aren't stupid. Actually, Iowa has the most collage graduates. So you should be talking. You fat, lazy kids. Go ahead, give me thumbs down. At least I made my point.
Well, im from Smalltown northeast WI and yeah...some people talk like that, its not a common thing. Noone cares when someone throws out a "dontcha kno?" or a "up der" or "down der" or even, my favorite, "eh?". Were not as notorious as Canadians but were in the north. Big city WI is totally normal, perhaps having the most mild accent of the whole country.
I grew up in central Minnesota and I've lived in Fargo North Dakota for seven years now and I have never once heard a single person talk anywhere near this bad... EVER. It's a fucking myth, it's not a Minnesota or Wisconsin accent, it's a Canadian accent. At least give credit where credit is due.
I've also never heard anyone say "Ya you betcha" ever, except in reference to the movie "Fargo", which actual people from Fargo think is ridiculous.
hahaha, love the accents! And the ppl commenting on this must have never been to northern Wisconsin cause they say you betcha all the time! and yeah hey, and don't cha know! Trust me, my family lives way up der and when ever we visit we always get going with our Wisconsin accents :P
We don't sound like that.. That's northern. And we don't say "you betcha" instead it's.. "you know it". And I live smack dab midwest. Illinios. Midlanderrrr. I do not sound like that..
yeah that is so true, i am from iowa and i notice that accent the most in minnesota and northa dakota but not as much in southern minnesota, but its def not a midwestern accent
Oh Yah, Sure, Don'cha Know that we dont actually talk like that....... anyway i betta be gettin' back to ma she got cornmeal on the table and fresh bisquits in tha Uv-IN... y'all come back now ya herrr....
I say pop.I say doin not doing,When I say Minnesota or North Dakota I say soda not sota but it sounds just like sota or kota.I'm not even from Minnesota I'm from the midwest though. The Midwest accents kick ass.
It's a little exaggertated, but I do talk like this sometimes. Mostly it is just the Yoopers that sound like that, but I'm from Southeastern WI and I kinda sound like that.
People from wisconsin don't sound like this unless you are from the far north. That's more of an upper pennisula Michigan accent. Yoopers talk like this. Not people from wisconsin.
I never knew there was such thing as a Wisconsin accent until I visited my family out in Boston and they told me I had it "wicked bahd." Like they should talk about accents...
Yeah, movies like Drop Dead Gorgeous and Fargo are spoofs. I have never met anyone in Minnesota who sounds like that. Maybe if you drive 8 hours north of the Twin Cities in the middle of nowhere.
Stupid people. Just because we say doncha know and okie dokie all the time doesn't mean it's bad. We love our accents and they are not that thick! Canadians talk way different then us. You people don't know anything!
lol... i'm from Minnesota and I do have to agree with you in most part but I don't think North Dakotaaaaahhhh has nearly as bad of an accent as most Minnesotans or people from Wisconsin.

I had a friend from Wisconsin who also thought she didn't have an accent, then she moved to Georgia, she knows they speak "Southern" down their, when she returned to Wisconsin and listened to her friends and family she finally realized that they really do have accents!
...yes they do....they do very much so...listen to teachers talk...or adults...we all have them at least a little bit..some not as bad as that but some are worse i swear. dont deny it...its there, i hear it everyday. i'd say a good 90 percent of native minnesotans have an accent
i'm from minnesota and i think that that's hilarious..but i don't talk like that. it's a bit too exagerated. i have said, 'ya you betcha' a few times =P
I used to live in MN (love it!) I still have a bit of an accent even though I only lived there for 3 years. Some people do talk that way, but it depends. Its not THAT exaggerated. The thing I hate is saying bag like 'baig' and bagel like 'baggel' xD.
hopefully people realize that's not how we talk in minnesota/north dakota. apparently not but ok. i think it is fun to do that horribly exaggerated accent at times though. just cuz no one around here actually talks like that... it's sorta entertaining cuz we're basically making fun of the movies
that's not midwestern. . . -__-

ya, this sounds like an old person accent, not a minnesota accent

You fail at the Minnesoatan accent. No one speaks like that.
