@ethanbass100 Yeah, no, the sound of the acoustic really fits in with multiple genres, i'm sure. What i mean is that it's hard to improvise and make certain cool funky things (lots of octave jumps) on the electric bass; on the acoustic it's waaaay more difficult.
I like the fact that Ray is very humble and very encouraging to these students. Double bass is hard to play. I've played electric in (mostly) rock, jazz, blues bands and orchestra for over 25 years and upright is a whole 'nother beast. I wish Ray could teach me upright.

@stephencoxbass I know what you mean, but death doesn't change da fact that he still IS da man. For me only someone like McBride (of course there are a few others) who can get close to that big solid sound.
@aockid Ray made the comment that the bass was'nt then appropriate for rock, I'm sure he would love to hear what Miles Mosley is doing with the bass now...
Hi there....say, there's a bit missing between parts 04 an 05, at the end of the previous they're talking about the sound, and in this one the stundent have already played a blues in F.....can you post that bit please...maybe as 04.5....XD thanks...and thanks for the entire video posted...I've been studying with these videos, great and thanks again.
I found the missing part (almost 5 minutes!) in the new post of these lessons in full-colour and with a better sound.
It's at "Ray Brown Bass lesson 3/6" from 2:45 and it features some nice things on "sound", independacy of the bass player and the beginning of the triplets...
By the way, it's great checking out the Ray Brown's bass method, in combination with these videos!
I got nervous when I saw him moving on the setup of the drums but he officially killedded it. On top of inventing a new way (no doubt at the time) of playing a rock bass figure, he brought that same RB impeccable bass playing (tone, intonation, time) to the task. Excuse me while I pick up my jaw from the floor now.

When is this? I want to be sure if Ray invented that funky bass style, which on the acoustic must be figgin impossible to play

@oldkingproverb I've been a professional doublebass player for the last 23 years and I'm sure that in front of Ray Brown I would rush like hell!

He's so humble for somebody who never makes a mistake. Wish I could play even half as good as Ray.
