It's chickens and eggs: Like it or not, Afghanistan needs something to replace the poppy crops, and the gov't needs to have fuel security as well as the revenues from the pipeline. The pipeline is part of the economic development programme in Afghanistan. They need to have a real stake in the progress of their country. That's what the pipeline is all about. Will some people get rich from it? Yes. Is that a bad thing? No.

Congressional "authorization" does not necessarily make something legal. They're bound by the Constitution (or at least they're SUPPOSED to be), which makes international treaties to which we are a signatory the supreme law of the land. The invasion and occupation of Afghanistan are CLEARLY illegal.

Sorry - Zero evidence? You must have missed the quote from Col. David Haight of the Tenth Mountain Division. It comes about 3:55 into the video. I'd say that's some pretty good evidence. I've been checking into the maps as well and have a bunch of them showing the NATO and ISAF layouts there, and yes it is obvious its all about the pipeline, as well Iran has an interest in the competeing Nabucco pipeline, that will never happen without Iran.
