@reno573 no reno, as you may be aware Prof Stephen Hawking has amyotrophic lateral sclerosisa type of motor neutone disease which is a slow, painful & crippling disorder.
Even if he had suffered a stroke the idea is to raise awareness to PREVENT people from being left to die
tha point is , IF YOU DON'T RECOGNISE THE SYMPTOMS YOU WON'T KNOW TO CALL AN AMBULANCE UNTIL ITS TOO LATE!!!! what if it was your mum/dad/sister/brother/lover??
@TotalKO1 I'm guessing you are just trying to be funny and clever, but I couldn't help but find your comment rather annoyint. When I was ten years old, I had a stroke. I'm fine now, but it took years to recover. My parents did not know children could have strokes, and they didn't take me to the hospital until HOURS (not 20 minutes,) later. I find it really irritating when people are trying to find somthing wrong with youtube videos or whatever the case may be.
i think this is one of the most effective ads on tv at the moment and about a subject a lot of people dont know much about. Well done to the NHS for this one.
Thanks for your comments Andy, this ad will probably save more lives than all the previous information given out about strokes, I am a First Aid instructor & am always amazed at how little people know about stroke. I now use these videos in my training
"The more of the person you save"??? Does this mean that a person who does not have the use of their speech, arms and/or facial expression is not a person? I have a son with cerebral palsy who has all of these issues but he is still a person.
no Marion, this means if someone is able bodied prior to a stroke, the less time wasted the more chance that they will recover & remain able bodied, this comment was purely meant as a statement for the urgency for diagnosis & treatment of a stroke.
this is horrible! completely over the top and not necessary on television. they could have got the message across with a much less shocking, upsetting advert
I agree, it's essential to put the realistic symptoms out there. It's definitely shocking, but as jiffy says you will remember the symptoms. You can't mess around with something as serious as stroke, you can't be subtle about what happens, otherwise it wouldn't be effective. I think this advert is a good thing.
When I first saw this advert it really scared me, but it's very informative. Very good advert.

What's the point in these adverts when it takes 20 mins for the ambulance to arrive anyway!

would you see the point then?

I'd ring an ambulance even if it didn't know these were symptoms of a stroke.
Seems kind of futile though, given that a few seconds saved picking up the phone earlier will just get counteracted by an ambulance taking ages.
