  • Both are ESPs not squiers

  • Sounds to me like they are just spewing out any old shit they can out of the scale. This is very average improvisation...i.e wank off in the scale aimlessly with an occasional meaningful melody/phrase. Next.

  • @xUnrealTx

Oh yeah. You're totally right. I mean, anyone can do this even blindfolded...

  • Katsu ohta is the Asian malsteem, check him out!

  • 島氏はまだ全然良いと思うけど、どうして日本のギタリストってゴミみたいな音出す奴ばっかりなの?

  • @JagiJagiJagiJagi マジ?日本のギタリスト最高や

  • sounded kinda like fusion with backing track really awesome!!!\m/

  • who is alex trebek ?

  • i want that backing track!!!!

  • Honestly, I got 10 times more feel from the guy on the right. I have to give it up for Takayoshi and his incredible feel.

  • great improvising.... good stuff.

  • The Malmsteen on a Squier?

  • @JPalvesvideos if its a squier, id assume its a japanese made one (about the same quality as american standard strats, or even better) if not, squiers are fine guitars :)

  • @JosephCurteis I don't think it's a Squire. Either way, people get so hung up on brands and models. A good guitar player can make anything sound good. Jeff Beck was at the NAMM show in 2009. A reviewer could hear him playing in the booth, but could not see him. The reviewer commented on his great tone. It turned out Beck was playing with a Squire guitar and a Pignose amp.

  • i wish could see atsushi yokozeki vs gentaro

  • i mean any kind of music lol

  • takayoshi is my favorite guitarist out there, if you watch all his vs videos, youll soon find that not only is he fast and melodic, but hes very versatile and can adapt his style to just about kind of music.

  • 100w or 50w?

  • Have you guys ever heard this Korean douchebag named Sehwang Kim play? It's sloppy at best, yet a bunch of Koreans hail him as THE guitar God. Shima and Ohmura put this douchebag to shame for sure.

  • I like Takayoshi better. I'm finding him to be much better than most of the Japanese guitarist. He is much more original and his phrasing and picking technique kicks ass.

  • OMFG its yngwie malmsteen's asian self \m/ \m/

and again i'm not gonna decide a winner. the whole point is not to make it some kind of competition. its bringing together 2 great guitarists to impovise and demonstrate what they want to play. instead of playing set pieces they get the freedom to make it up there and then and play to the world exactly what they want to play.

  • @ouija93 they may call it guitar player VS guitar player but in reality its just a name, i don't know why people here chose winners, since its so hard to chose. since they don't anounce any winners at the end of the round, its clear that the purpouse of this so called battle, is to bring two awesome guitar players to improv , which is basicaly a 2 for 1 case. its awesome cause u get to see 2 of the top of japan's guitarist shred together. there's no actual winner :P

  • this is bullshit, they made sport out of music... instead of making music, they can ofc imitate their guitar heroes and play 1000 notes per seconds over crappy backtrack... fucking pathetic.

  • both have very similiar playing styles, very hard battle to choose a winner for.

  • I NEED TABS FOR THIS...! JUST BEAUTIFULL !

  • New drinking game.. every time they switch pickups, take a drink^^

  • @Paschendale2 switching pickups on a good strat mid solo actually replicates the tingly feeling you have when you actually take a shot of vodka.

  • 1:34 my ears explode with jizz pouring out

  • any1 know the instrument?

  • Don't like Ohmuras style at all, and beside this I listen to Concerto Moon now for almost 10 years, so I personaly prefer Shima n_n

But of course they're both great.

  • Norifumi Shima owned it. Perfect ending too.

  • that's a esp vs schecter battle.Again.

  • People who talk shit about YJM should just STFU. True that he's lost a bit of his charisma but man, let's be honest, we we're all influenced by him and should be thankful that YJM was somehow brought to this world.. I mean, imagine a world without YJM, no I'll see the light tonight, Fire in the sky, Far beyond the sun, Amberdawn and some other awesome shit that he wrote.

  • ONE M0:00RE TIME

  • takayoshi tiene la mano mas liviana, los dos tocan muy bien eeehhh!!

  • YES! Thats how you wear boots. :D I want so bad!

  • I don´t like their tones but both of them are extraordinary, I prefer Norifumi Shima, maybe because he reminds me Malmsteen, I don´t know.

  • wow this actually has a lot of feeling, sounds great.

  • don't like takayoshi.

  • want M0:00re taka!

  • Comment removed

  • nothing to do with yngwie.....just coz they use same modes as yngwie doesn't mean they are yngwe wannabe.....these players are so amazing player...with sweet melody unlike yngwie with crap same run over and over again \m/

  • @surana87s

He doesnt sound anything like yngwie. Does kind of look like him. He also lacks Yngwie's amazing vibrato.

  • an eargasm....effin sweet melody....real guitar Gods...\m/

  • buenos. se nota mucho la diferencia de sonido entre una esp y una fender.

  • pra mim soa estranho

  • @juliavalentes improviso soa sempre meio estranho mas ate ta fixe

  • nice music

  • man, do you have atsushi yokozeki vs syu??

  • I think honokamurashamurahashamorusan won

  • wow that shirt really sucks

  • there both good but the guy on the left wins

  • 0:33 TCHENENE !

  • 0:31 TCHENENE ! :D

  • Both are awesome guitarist and have similar picking styles,it's dificult to compare

  • They are similar in picking style.. DAMN!

  • taka took the cake on this one i love both of his solos, the 2nd one is pure awesomeness

  • the guy with the red guitar has good phrasing but bad tone, and the guy with the tan guitar has the opposite

  • @bestguitarestable yes, takayoshi ohmura

  • @7Stringerstinger I dont think so dude, sounded to me like he was using dorian and lydian licks which are uh...not off at all. I think everyone here would agree with that too. Maybe give it another listen? Not saying I am omgahz im leik soooo riiight, but yeah, give it a few more listens and maybe your mind would change.

  • @leoseanster Ignore most of these people. They're probably the kind of kids who like to compare the size of their dicks by clashing what they perceive is a good musician. It sounds "outside" which isn't bad at all, it's actually something jazz and fusion players do a lot of times just like a drummer does fills in between phrases. Tonal based instruments use outside phrasing as their own fills.

  • Takayoshi was more fluid and smooth. He wins this one........and every other one.

  • For a second i thought that was Yngwie and was scared for the other guy.

  • Asian Malmsteen on the left

  • @MrKoreanDrama

    ringwie marmsteen?

  • @MrKoreanDrama if was using a les paul shaped guitar that thought would never have crossed your mind

  • Dude ... look the norifumi's pickup selector while he's playing

  • yngwie wins

  • yngwie wins

  • I meant Amazon.com

  • Because of the popularity of these videos, have you noticed both Ohmura's and

Shima's CD's and other items have gone up in price on Amazom?? No Coincidence!

  • People that dislike this video: what are you disliking? The fact that you'll never be a fucking God like them and you'll be a hit comparing with them? Or it's just because yo are idiot?

  • nice shoes Taka

  • if steve vai was in this battle we no who would win lmao

  • Shima's was more forced imo. But that's my opinion. I just liked listening to Taka more.

  • i think that everyone should consider that Ohmura has the advantage in this video. being a GIT graduate he likely has more knowledge of jazz theory, particularly chord substitution and 7th arps (as can be heard in his songs), in comparison to Shima, who is most likely limited to modes and pentatonic with this kind of backing track, as he is a more neo-classical composer.

the backing track serves in favor of Ohmura, so i dont think there is a 'winner'. both are very skilled.

  • 1:28... Those are some flexible fingers

  • 1:28... That's some flexible fingers

  • @emsha69 i have to agree hid did sound more emotional with the fretboard so yea i think taka wins........

  • @bleachisawesome121 I agree, but this one is the closest i've seen so far

    Takayoshi,you're slippin a bit!!

  • Takayoshi is great, but experience prevails....

    ¡¡¡NORIFUMI SHIMA!!!

  • love how they switch their pickupssss

  • i love takas tone, i mean its like dirty but in a clean way and sounds pretty sweet when your playing up the board

  • i like that sound norifumi makes at 1:13 it sounds so awesome

  • Too much hate on Norifumis playing. He is one of the most versitaile guitarists out THERE!

  • OMG ASIAN YNGWIE! XD

  • sound so noisy.. not clear..both skills same not that unique in style..should try m0re solo like the guru akira taka saki...not ala malmsteen...sorry guys...but to both congratulation, at least you guys have the guards to be in you tube... i want to see more other unique style of modes...anyway great show..

  • Ohmura reminds me of steve vai. Both guitarists here have a unique style of playing but i like shima more (which is surprising since i don't have much love for malmsteen)

  • @D1vid3By0

reminds you of steve vai....bad joke?

  • @Lemmy008

You know how his tonality isn't super distorted it's kind of clean in a dirty way. They both are pretty smooth. And both have their own style of playing that can't be perfectly matched.

Also there are a million Malmsteens & Kirk Hammets (learn your pentatonics and you are automatically on his level). I like the guys who bring new stuff to the table here are a couple examples. TMWUT

    Jason Becker

    Marty Friedman

    Chris Brodrick

    Jeff Loomis

    Paul Gilbert

    And everyone from shrapnel records.

  • boring...

  • at least takayoshi has his own style, norifumi it's a cheap copy of Yngwie Malmsteen, same guitar and dress.

  • can i download the backing track of this video(s)?

or could somebody send it to me? maybe the poster?

this would be great for practise, thank you :)

  • Takayoshi won. Norrifumi is to much stop and go and sounds like a couple mistakes were made.

  • Anybody got the backing track they are using?

  • this is bullshit!!!!!!

  • soulful ohmura, mad shima

  • Damn Awesome, both are awesome.

  • Shima is better

  • Norifumy Wins ... his technique is better ... even both sound great

  • Shima`s Rules!!!!!

  • takayoshi's guitar has far too much gain on it considering it doesnt have humbuckers. you can hear a lil bit of feedback creeping in :/ but he still wins lol

  • actually, norifumi's ending note at the end of the song was a well planted note on the chord. that was brilliant... the rest was not. :/

  • these guys don't do a good job of finding harmonizing notes. just playing a lot of notes on top of chords doesn't mesh well sometimes unless the note on top of the chord goes well together. in this case i didn't feel it.

  • I wonder how Takayoshi is able to nail those artificial harmonics with the neck pick-up. o_O

  • @SpectralUltra he doesn't. you can see him switching pickups during harmonics.

  • One of Japan's guitar god.

  • Norifumi Shima

  • does anyone know where to find the backing tracks they are playing along to?

  • i like Takayoshi style

  • I love the fact that the Japanese musicians are keeping the classic electric-guitar craft alive.

  • @gbwisconsin I'm glad someone is,cuz it's dying a slow death in America,there will always

be U.S shredders, but Japan really respects thier gifted musicians.

  • i like it : )

  • Both of their tones are great, and they both have a lot of feeling. This is amazing ;D I can't even pick a winner

  • Jesus, Ohmura always has such horrid tone. I can't get behind the fuzziness. Both of these guys are Jason Becker/Malmsteen knock-offs for me, but Norifuma precise, searing attack sells it, and I just liked his note choices better.

  • @element0s Becker/Malmsteen "knockoffs" ?

  • norifumi shima is godlike.

  • @Requiemxtoxinnocence nu uh, he looks more like a jesusy type person. lmao

  • Heh has anybody realized how freaking japanese the whole series is? Honorable duels... on guitar :P

  • @Benteiron Hopefully when they lose they don't stab themselves to death D:

  • @NatureTome Yeah me too :p nice comment.

  • I don't understand why Ohmura doesn't have a signature esp guitar yet. ESP YOU HEARING ME.

  • @PrsFenderJackson1980 He's using one of his sigs in this video, i think it's his first one, actually. You just have to check the ESPJAPAN website carefully and you'll find his gallery.

  • @PrsFenderJackson1980 Haha he does, and thats one of them he's using right there. He has a line of custom ESP Snappers with scalloped frets, do a bit of looking around and you'll find his custom page

  • Norifuma's the Japanese Yngwie Clone. He even tries to look like him. Ohmura has much more to offer therefore he Wins!

  • u just cannot compare a giant like takayoshi and all others who wanna grow ^^

  • I think Shima wins. Takayoshi i think wants to much, but he needs to learn to be more controlled and have control over his dynamics

  • God, for guitarists who have been playing for years its easy to say, "Oh this isn't hard to play", But the fact they are improvising and know so well the scales and theory and fucking everything makes them such great guitarists!

  • Definitely the most epic of all the battles in this series.

  • I loved the ending that Shima gave to this jam.

  • I like Shima more!

  • Takayoshi fucking rules!

And the faces he makes haha so hillarious

  • Get a clue , Norifumi is a guy not her fool. Takayoshi has more feeling and creativity which is why ist is Takayoshi vs. I think these people play kazoo which is why they post stupid coments. Less Guitar Hero video games and pick up a real guitar.

  • improvising is not these japanes huys biggest talent...they are amazingly good of course, but much more impresive when they play something more thought out. They are not in Guthrie Govans league when it come to impro

  • both of them using stratocaster.........

  • Takayoshi can feel the song. Norifumi is good, but Taka wins

  • taka wins. shima was whoring around on the pentatonic and it sounded out of tune. taka was using more minor-like scales and it was in tune and sounded emotional.

  • Shima the teacher and Takayoshi the student xD

  • I think Norifumi WINS, her sound is mmore clean, and improv complex is greater tand faster thanTakayoshi.

  • @Scordark word shima is a dude...and taka can play just as fast. his phrasing is also is WAY more dynamic much harder to pull off then just using shredd scales in the same spo thte whole time.....

  • 0:29 spaak thing?

  • is this impro?

  • shima won

  • taka wins...he used more fretboard... it sounded more emotional...

  • @emsha69 youre a fucken dick

  • @emsha69 GAAGAGAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

  • where can you get this backing track

  • I think Shima is a better, but just cause Concerto Moon was, together with Rhapsody, one of the first Metalbands I ever listened to ;D

In the end, they're both really good. I wish I could play my guitar this way ._.

  • 02:14 fatal error!! he can't change the tone control

  • jesus... both change tone's control all long the video... -.-'

  • He almost paid for it, too :P.

  • i want this fucking backing track!!!

  • Norifumi is better off playing on a backing with an Aeolian feel to it. Takayoshi's note choices were brilliant.

  • who wants to battle with yonji rufuma

  • I like Shima's tone better.

  • @eveningninja Definately - plus Takayoshi's tone had no definition in the bass, the notes just dissapeared when he went low. That said they are both amazing players and I love the video.

  • i love ohmura

anyone know where i could get this track from?

  • taka rocks

  • Takayoshi masters the uses of RESTS... there are all those people who sweep 24/7 but the rests build character into the song as well

  • I think they're both good players, but they're not really getting the Lydian - Mixolydian vibe down in this track.

  • @lydianguy I agree with you. And your name suggests you should know.

  • @oregonskateok I felt something was off. Although I don't know a massive amount of theory.

  • lol this is coming from lydian guy

  • That guy gave that track the best ending to an inrpovised solo EVER! 0_0

  • holy shit

  • Shima was good but I liked Ohmura better.

  • LOL FatSlim666 - you think you can play better than him? id chop off my dick if you could. your face sounds like shit. yeah i went there. your definition of good must be as fucked as your definition for shit is.

  • Ohmura went nuts at 2:00 and it sounded good :)

Shima sounded good before that. I'd say a draw :)

  • Ehhh no offence, just that the the guy playing at 2:00 is Shima, Ohmura's the younger one.

  • Norifumi Shima winner :D kaoks

  • This backing track is really difficult to solo to o.o

  • i love duels..but not exciting enough for me but great guitar playing

  • to me it sounds like theyre just playing scales that r trying to get somewere but theyre not making any sense...thers no song to be heard here just crap..yngwie is way better than both in my opinion

  • OMG!!! It's Asian Yngwie!!!! But the guy in the Crue shirt wins!
