How was this recorded? It sounds so clean. It's like it is right off the sound board. I can hear the stereo effects so it's not a tape in the pocket kind of bootleg. To think that Digital Audio Tapes were just coming out when this was recorded...Amazing. I've always loved Rush's music. Then and Now.
@electricchaos Thanks for the comment back. I wasn't aware of these kinds of soundboard recordings being available. I learn something new everyday. I'm loving all these recordings that I hadn't heard up until now.
@ siitrom, I couldent agree with you more Alex is playing so far outside the box on this album. totally my favorite as far as guitar is concerned though some people might say im crazy but what do you want i was 13 when it came out and it took me there every time...
Regarding GUP: I think the production did hurt it. When I hear live versions of those tunes, it's obvious how strong some of the material is. To me, it's a bridge album.
Simply, the very best Band in the Land.. None better. Unlike most bands of their generation, fans like their new stuff just as much as their older tunes.
I saw this show 2 nights...at the Cow Palace in SF and then Oakland. Geddy had the PPG synth parts turned up LOUD as hell. Amazing shows.
In start of Middletown Dreams song Alex broke a string and he turned around and THREW his guitar about 40 feet off stage at the exact same a new guitar came flying in (Higher Arc) from the tech 40 feet away. He caught the guitar, put the strap over his head and resumed playing in less than maybe 5 seconds. One of the most amazing things I've ever seen.
@cireravilob cool i wish i was alive sadly only 14' but i do writ music of the more darker sides of earth and fantasy etc definatly not in style now a days argh pop and rap sucks but there is the occasional good rock song that comes out
Man, am I dreaming...I mean, kindred spirits, those besides myself who Love RUSH...
There were times when I was thought I was the only one who understood RUSH !!!
I mean , really understood them...there sound, there style, there influence...me being a musician for 36 yrs..31 of those as a guitarist, thanks to RUSH for being such an amazing influence in my life.
@intromus Wow! That exactly how I felt at that time. I am a musician just because them. At that time their lyrics and music gave me so much understanding about things that I would not have thought of. I know it sounds silly but RUSH kept me off the bad influences of the street by keeping me busy practicing my drums and reading about things that were totally oblivious to me.
Lifeson is smoking in this song.....actually the whole Power Windows album I think is their best work. What Lifeson was able to do with the guitar From Signals to Hold Your Fire was extremely innovative.....I think for a good few he changed the way guitar playing was looked at
I mostly agree with you, although I think most of "GUP" was hampered by lackluster songs and wimpy production. But "Power Windows" and "Hold Your Fire" are classics, I think. Both brilliant records.
In the album's liner notes it thanks Wal basses, which probably means he didn't use a Steinberger at all. On a Farewell to Kings he thanked Rickenbacker basses, and he only used Rickenbackers on that album. I could be wrong.
He used a Stein for Mystic Rhythms (you see it in the video), but I'm not sure about the other songs. On tour, though, he only used his Stein, he says so in the tourbook's equipment list.
It's his Wal bass for all the "Power Windows" album. But at first before recording that album Geddy have played with different basses including his Steinberger, but in his final choice he took his Wal bass.
That's not true. He used the Steinberger for most of that album. The only ones he used the Wal for are "The Big Money" and "Territories". You can tell by the tone. Heck, I saw the video of them playing this song once before, and he's using the Steinberger.
It's his Wal bass for all the Power Windows album. But at first before recording that album Geddy have played with different basses including his Steinberger but in his final choice he took his Wal bass.
I saw the video for this performance. He's using the Steingberger. Heck, it doesn't even sound like the Wal. Listen to A Show of Hands. You can tell the difference quite easily.
Yes, I mean if you're talking about the live performance, Geddy used only is Steinberger bass on all Grace Under Pressure and Power Windows Tour, but for the recording of Power Windows album he used his Wal.
Geggy used the producer's (Peter Collins) Wal bass on the Power Windows album. That was how he was introduced to them. The 4 albums where he used a Wal, ie PW , HYF, Presto, RTB, are my favourite for bass parts,in no small part for the bass tone. And yes, I've got a Wal myself now!

Yeah, it's one of my faves, definitely. It's a shame the complete show isn't present. Imagine Grand Designs live at this quality. Mmm...
Great video, ratchetfan! You know these vids are really useful for people wondering which bootleg show to get. They have these songs to judge the quality, performance, etc. A great resource!
excuse men, where did you find this? power windows is my all time favorite album and i would love to have this live cd

It's not often that i play a record, turn on me comp and find a reply that corresponds with the music i'm listening to. What a bliss!
Thanx a lot for this version, such a great sound. Straight from the soundboard i guess.

@yasaisony It's obviously from the soundboard. Rush soundboards were available until around '96 when they changed road crews..
