  • @Brett I have some questions:

    - What are the actual parts that can fail with these kind of manuvers with all stability off? Differentials and anything else?

    - With semi-slik tires and/or running on wet or snow surface, that will be easyer on these parts, correct ?!

    - And with manual 5 speed transmission of GSR, will it also help to cool it off by driving it a bit like you mentioned? Or just for the SST ?

    Thanks.

  • @adrianTNT pls remember NOTHING IS OFF, its turned DOWN.

failure is related to HOW you drive it and HOW you maintain it

the more you cool down on ANY car the better, yes good point

    also failure is related GRIP

    I hope this helps

  • Very interesting. I have a question and maybe your input could help. As I do Autocross, I tend to push the throttle to the limit, but for some reason, the ASC will shut off in the middle of driving, which causes me to adjust myself to maintain control in high speed turns. Is this a computer issue?

  • I think this video confuses the difference between ASC, S-AWC and AYC. Maybe it is just me because we separate the terms in the US.

  • @danmck11 they all work in unison with each other. The bottom line is the switch on the dash ONLY does what I mention and show in the video, the annoying part is that it cant be turned off 100%

  • @Brettmiddleton I thought they were 2 separate systems. The ASC controls the vehicle to keep it safe for on road driving by limiting throttle. Once turned off you can actually use the SAWC to its fullest for performance driving, by holding the ASC button turning off the AYC giving it a more raw setting . Of course this is just what i thought so I'm no expert. I own an 08 GSR and find myself messing with these setting and seeing the difference. I may be wrong I just thought that how it worked.

  • @danmck11 holding it one for a longer time never achieves 100% off, as I indicated in the video, but its the best you can get :)

  • does the ASC come on all trims of the lancer, or on certain trims, or is it an option?

  • @hotricebowl hmm I know its on all EVO's here in Oz as of july ALL cars sold MUST have stability control

  • @Brettmiddleton what about the asc on/off button? which trims does it come on?

  • @hotricebowl the ASC button is the one i show and push in the video

  • Wow I've been watching so many vids about cars in Briton and Japan that having the driver's seat on the right hand side don't look weird anymore...

  • Great video and EXACTLY what I was looking for!

  • No...it's eeeeevo no the evo u hear in evolution

  • tip: dont say evo like say eeeeeeeevo

  • Hi Brett. Can you please tell us how does the car react to pulling the handbrake while driving ? I saw a review from fifth gear where they said that it "confused the gearbox" : apparently that made it switch to neutral instead of just staying in whatever gear it was before, which would be, well, stupid for such a car I suppose. Needless to say I couldn't find anyone who would lend me an evo to test this :)

  • @666pussy on the 5 speed like mine the car can NOT switch to neutral, BUT on the SST trans model I am not sure, I THINK its ok, and does not switch to neutral either........I will check at our next skid pan day as we have several high HP SST trans EVO X's that I can try it in the be sure :)

  • @Brettmiddleton oh right, you were driving the manual. Thanks in advance if you can check it with the SST though, it would be a huge plus for me to be sure that it does NOT switch to neutral when pulling the handbrake at low speeds. I mean, a rally car on which you can't do handbrake turn would be pretty dumb now wouldn't it. Even if some can argue that it's not a rally car anymore since it now comes with comfort ;)

  • great video

  • @pin3appel thanks for your comment on our video. Please share and pass on thw word! :)

  • The new STI sedan is God awful ugly. It looks like a Kia with an aftermarket body kit. The wing is absolutely hideous, It also has a sunroof. WTF.

  • @HighCardWins yeah, the new STi, love it or hate it. Its gunna be good either way!

  • @Brettmiddleton No doubt it will be a good performer.

  • Have you tested if turning the asc off can increase salom speed? Compared to the previous evos, the 10 is not as quick through the salom b/c of something going on with the asc.

  • @HighCardWins thanks for your feedback, re the Slalom, we have not tested this yet, but plan to.

  • Can you make it oversteer with clutch kicking?

  • @XenoRacing you would have to be an animal on the clutch and even then it will revert back to understeer

  • @Brettmiddleton oh thanks for replying, so basically just stick to power over steering and ebrake?

  • @XenoRacing yep

  • I decided to try out the ASC on my UK Evo X 330SST and you got to have some balls to keep your foot to the floor while going around a roundabout as it goes around quicker than you think it can, that would be my private roundabout i have on my driveway of course lol.

  • @uptheduffagain great that you have the confidence n ow in your EVO X :)

  • @Brettmiddleton can i ask you Brett what tyres do you guys find best for road use on the EVO X?cheers Paul

  • @uptheduffagain I use Bridgestone RE55

  • @Brettmiddleton can i ask you Brett what tyres do you guys find best for road use on the EVO X?cheers Paul

  • @uptheduffagain personally I use Bridgestone RE55's semi Slicks, at Superlap I used Yokohama Neova they are more a road tyre, and good for the wet

  • hahaha, thats way i love evos, they make us look like the Heros we are not.

  • @kanzzon exactly!

  • Good info but would it really be as easy to drift like that on a dry road?

  • @nathan949494 you need a lot of grunt to do in on a dry surface!

  • @Brettmiddleton just increase the lower gear ratios and install drifting tires lol

  • Wow, you make some very nice informative videos. Subscribed!

I've only had my '10 GSR for 2 months now but have to try this sometime. My IX MR didn't have AYC so I'm curious as to how different it feels on this car. Have to wait several more weeks as I live in Jersey, USA where snow is always on the ground along with freezing temps. I'm running on the factory rubbers so my "spirited" driving will have to wait. :)

  • @ApexIXMR thanks for your feedback

  • @ApexIXMR you owned the IX MR??? Dont you miss the (manual)??? Im soo glad I didnt buy the MR ( semi automatic) I had the 2009 Lancer GTS ( with paddle shifters) and I hated it!! So now I have the Evo X-GSR(manual) its more friendly with modifications... U do know, u wont be able to modify it as much as the Evo X GSR, Right?

  • @princeofroyalty2

I think you're confused. My IX MR was a 6-speed manual. My X GSR is a 5-speed manual.(videos in my channel)

I would never get a new MR soley because of the transmission. Although it gets much praise from all the Mags, it is limited when it comes to adding HP/tq after modification.

  • @princeofroyalty2

Yeah, that's the reason I didn't go with the new MR. Need a manual.

I miss my IX, but I love my X. :)

  • @ApexIXMR fantastic, TOP FUN!

  • @ApexIXMR Snow? cool some fun on that!

  • @Brettmiddleton

Yeah, it' fun until you have to go out and spend money on snow tires ;)

  • @ApexIXMR now thats something we dont have to do here in Oz!

  • Many thanks for the info Brett, it is really great, will look forward for more tips from your side.

  • @billyaridi

    thanks

  • thanks bret, very informative video!

  • thanks!

  • @eryin76 thanks for the feedback

  • I really need to get one of these vehicles! You explained everything very well, and that was some nice driving!

  • It was fun creating the video!

  • Very good video, and great examples of how it handles different. Honestly, after owning an X for a few months now, I've gotten TOO used to it; switching to a different car, even a Subaru, or an older Evo 8/9, is totally different at the limit.

  • thanks for your feedback

  • haha nice 1 series on the back

  • wow.......THANK YOU for this video....

  • thanks!

  • is there anyway to completly turn it off maybe at a tuning shop or mechanic or sumthing??

  • there is no possible way to do it.

we have the best tuning software (ecutek) and this cant access the stability control set up,,,,

    B

  • nice one m8

  • I never said you can!

    please watch it again!

  • I know, I never said "you said you can".

  • In "off off" the ASC doesn't retard any throttle and will not prevent the car from spinning out completely. Isn't that what turning it off is all about ? :-)

Think of it this way. ASC on = no spin, ASC off = spin it out as much as want.

  • Thanks Brett for your tips, i was etrying to understand it last winter on ice, but did not really noticed the differences between modes 2 and 3. Now i can clearly see!

  • glad to help, please follow me on facebook, twitter and flicker, simply search MRTperformance!

  • @fmjammo GREAT!

  • @fmjammo I am glad my drifting info helped you!

  • thats a very good video Brett :)

    Shane

  • thanks, check out more and follow us on twitter as well!

  • this car don't need to mod to drift

  • check out the dyno graph on our facebook page search MRTperformance

  • Great Video. its people like mrt that go out of their way to help the evo x community and a plus promotes your name, looking forward to more great simple informative videos

  • Thanks!

  • so when you push the button once what is still on? Are you saying it has partial stability control?

  • Press once and its partial, press it for 3 secs and its more, BUT NOT FULLY off

  • I love the way a Evo look sideways

    WRX OWNER

  • It's 'affect' not 'effect' when the method is the subject,

  • thanks, will fix!

  • great comparison of the three modes

  • good info.. thanks.. pls send more video's of sst equiped car..

  • gay! its fucking wet! of course it will drift!

  • step 1:Think, step 2:Comment

I THINK you skipped a step.

  • You really didn't understand a thing about the video didn't you??? It was suppose to drift, it simply showed how stability control work in the 3 different mode and was easier to show with an drift track... You really don't think before commenting. Oh wait, you actually have to be able to think for that, but since you didn't understand the reason of the video, even with such a simple title to understand, we most not have big hope for you to think before talking...

  • Thanks for the info!
