  • Schafer's one of the great ones, revered in Canada, which is obviously a big influence in this and many others of his works. He loves soundscapes and his scores use his unique graphic notation. This is a very nice performance of a challenging piece. Want to hear something really impressive? Find a recording of his 48-part Credo from Apolcalypsis.

  • Singing you call it? Ya gotta be kidding.

  • @MrMangoman69 if you limit your thinking to whatever your idea of what singing is and is not than you will miss out on hundreds i not thousands of oral traditions from all over the world. I was in this performance and granted the harmonies aren't perfect all the way through, however I've been singing choral music for over ten years and this piece is probably one of the most difficult and hauntingly beautiful pieces of music to be a part of or listen to.

  • @grahamjbanner I completely agree with you. I just saw Schola Cantorum de Venezuela perform this piece last night, and it was hauntingly beautiful and freeing. I am also a choral singer, and am very appreciative of groups that can approach atonal, dissonant, unconventional pieces like this with confidence.

  • Thank-you so much for uploading this. I know have the amazing privilege to discover the music of this cool contemporary composer (heard him on the radio-lol).

    1:19- HOWL!!!!!!

Are there any instrumental pieces available by Murray Schafer available on YouTube or available to listen on the web? I think I could learn a bit about composing from this guy! From Mozart there's the AMAZING bass lines, Bach; variation, Tchaikovsky; high parts, Dvorak; originality. Consequentially- something to learn!

  • my choir went to this convention, we're singing these songs for our fall concert this year
