Despite not being the winner, Zayra is the only one from the show who really made anything of herself musically. I watched the entire season, and I've never heard anything out of the other people on the show. No, she's not super famous or anything, but she did get to sing on a Blue October track. That's pretty fucking cool--and much better than what everyone else did. Including Lukas Rossi, who is now providing "fashion commentary" for some shitty gossip mag.

zombie, they're allowed to switch things up as they see fit, I thought that the way she placed the lyrics worked really well. i think the way she sang it told more of a story and brought a seriousness/raw element to the song that worked because of the seriousness of drug addiction.

But regardless of the seriousness of drug addiction, that's not even closely related to the addiction of music. She contradicted what you just said. Drug addiction is serious, but she related a "disease" to music? Come on.

Lyrically, her interpretation of the song is terrible. I'm a critic, I apologize. If something is blunt, leave it blunt. If something has an opening for possible multiple interpretations, then so be it. But, I believe this song is rather blunt, to be honest.

oh I didn't take her literally at all when she said it was about her "addiction to music," the song is obviously about drug addiction but I'm sure they didn't want her to say that on a primetime major network show. That's also very likely the reason why the "stick it in your veins" verse was removed. It's a blunt song, but they probably wouldn't have let her sing it if it was left so blunt, so I do like her interpretation given that.
