For 'sharp turns' maybe we should say 'frequent turns' for, in 4:20 to 4:30 we see Z-turns - with longer traverses that may allow speed to build, and lead to less control (and jerked turns) because they lose the rhythm so well shown in other clips on this video, where more smoothly linked and executed turns can be seen.
its pretty tough to keep your tips above the powder if its any decent depth unless your skiing on super fats, its much better to keep your center over your boots and ski with your skis beneath the surface, much less work WAY MORE FUN!!!!, it changed my powder skiing forever, also its ok to lead powder turns with your shoulders, in the bumps as with on piste your shoulders should always face the fall line
Not a good video. For bumps he should have mentioned the importance of picking out a line or route that you want to follow as you weave between the bumps. In that way you don't let the bumps dictate where you go nearly as much.
In powder he should have mentioned the jump turn. On the steeps its a great way to control speed and give you that floating sensation.
no really helpful information there. I wanted to know about whether i should lean back or stay central. Also advice on turning without putting as much weight on one ski like on compact snow.
nice skiing but you missed a pretty big point about this sort of skiing. At this stage you need to emphsize the use of your core muscles to keep you centered. It's very easy to get thrown forward or back. You should have shown a couple of exercies to work on this. A simple one I use with clients is to have them exhale or even make a loud noise at the end of a turn. This tightens the abs without them even thinking about it, and suddenly they are skiing the off piste better.
it's still the same, stay centered. So many people will tell you to lean back a bit, but this really isn't good, especially in any sort of steep off piste, whether it be powder, chopped up off piste or crud.

keep close contact between your skis and the snow...wow, great advice, my skis are normally about 6ft from the snow...what is this guy banging on about?
This video doesn't help much. It doesn't talk about where you should be looking when in moguls, what to do with your poles (just says 'use them' lol), what part of the mogul to go over, how to control your speed...lots of pretty footage, but no real instruction.
I wish we more moguls in Wisconsin and powder period! I can ice awesomely, but after awhile having just ice and hardpack in gets kind of boring. Great for racing though.
in powder try the float and sting that is be heavy on your skis and push them down into the snow to turn and now let them float out of the snow by being light out of your turn. Pole plants for powder or moguls by useing the pole flick that is cock your wrist back and push your palm out to get the flick plant your pole near the tip of your ski or top of the mogul.
This is a good and wellpresented series for anyone learning to ski, period. Some years ago french instructors tried to ban danish instructors from their resorts, but that was only because they felt threatened by the talented and friendly danes. That may be the cause of some of the more "serious looking" bad comments from "professionals".

Quote...."only if yop keep your skis close to the snow can you keep control" maybe in contact with the snow is what they wanted to say - I need a doctor now because my ribs are agony from laughing so much at the commentary - it's like those films we were shown at school at the age of 6 - obviously the script writer has never been anywhere near a pair of skis - or else he or she is is deliberately trying to confuse those who want to learn !
To krunchie63: Well, in fact the commentary says just that: "in contact with the snow" as well as "close to the snow". It doesn't confuse me. Anyone else confused? Or laughing? I think not. Your critique is just stupid.
I'm actually laughing because this bumb techniques(yes their are multiple ways to go fast in bumps and i'm not going to enumerate them) is not the best. When you see the skiers in the video, they are not aggressive enough. OHHH on a second note, poles are useless in deep snow because trying to get a grip will more often than not end in you not hiting something "hard".

This is nice old school skiing! Very agile with a narrow stance and lots of up and down movement.

Don't lean back...stay centered! Skiing from the "back seat" is not a good idea.

Part of it is filmed in Hemsedal (Norway), atleast the part around 1.00 min. from what I can tell.
Other , powder, parts are probably filmed at several locations in the Alps.

Turning the sound off and watching the footage is probably the best solution for this -- love the three-chord tape-looped soundtrack!

Dude he means to absorb bumps and keep your skis close to, but not necessarily constantly in contact with, the snow. It actually makes sense...
