Unfortunatelythe democrat dominated Congress gave up the Paris Treaty (1973) and make the US Airforce abandon South Vietnam in 1975. In 1972 Easter Offensive the South Vietnamese army crushed the Communists at An Loc, Kontum, and Quang Tri. The fire power of the US Airforce helped South Vietnam to win with very small losts (less than 100 american killed and only aviators)

The French won their main battles in Vietnam, from 1945 to 1954, except the last one Dien Bien Phu, in 1954, because everything was already politically fixed for French withdrawal. And Algerian forces were overcrushed by French troops. 30000 French troops were killed in Algeria. More than 1 million Algerian casualties. Here again, it was a political agreement by De Gaulle, to finish this war.

Some US fucks should read the history of the battle of VERDUN, in WW1.This big scale mass murder ended in a French victory, and is considered as the greatest battle of all time by historians. Unlike the British the French didn't realize that the (colonial) party was over.The British handled their decolonisation much better and with more realistic assessment and less blood than the French.The French were stubborn they didn't want to believe that the time for european powers was over,they had to learn it the hard way.At least since the Suez crisis they got to know who are the new bosses when French and UK were humilated into a reatreat at Suez

The Vichy French remained puppets to Japan for the WWII period and then returned to rule afterward. With France in shambles the government chose to milk its colonies of food and resources to support rebuilding in Europe. This policy gave power to the Viet Minh who obviously just wanted to recover the nations resources from French theft.
